Driving from MI... what city would you recommend to stop in past Atlanta?

We want to do most of our driving on the first day with only 5-6 hours on our second day.

I was thinking of stopping somewhere after Atlanta but before or around Macon.

Any city/hotel recommendations?

I would recommend stopping for the night at off the Macon Bypass which is on I-475 and on exit 3 there is a Hampton Inn and I would always recommend them.

However if you want to drive about another 20 - 30 minutes I would also recommend staying in Perry, Georgia off exit 136 and over there is another Hampton Inn.

Just as a follow up I made reservations for the Hampton Inn in Macon... the one you recommended.

We are traveling the day before Thanksgiving and I'm not sure how traffic will be and didn't want to add an extra half hour to an already long day.
