Does anyone know if and how this can be done? Would it cost MORE money? Would it cover all tolls ( bridges in NYC ), etc.? TIA

The EZ Pass will cover the bridges in NY. It would cover you through Virginia. It will not work for the tolls in FL since they only take the Sun Pass. We live in CT and have EZ Passes for every car. We ordered it on-line and used a cc. By doing that we did not have to pay the transponder fee and our cc is automatically charged when our balance gets low. I think it would be worth getting just to save the time of sitting in line to pay the tolls. We use the Tappan Zee Bridge several times and the lines can be extremely long for paying the toll but with EZ pass they have express lanes so you only have to slow down a little and breeze right through. The one thing that you do have to make sure is that you adhere, within a reasonable amount, to the speed limits posted at the toll plazas since you will get a letter fronm EZ pass threatening to take away our EZ pass priviledges is you keep speeding.

Forget in last post. You can get the Mass. Fast Lane (same as EZ pass) on line through the Mass DOT or we actually just went to EZPass.com and got ours through the NJ website. We have never had any problems. We have been able to get into our account info to update new vehicles that replaced others, and we had one transponder lost and were able to report it on-line and taken off our accout. We were then able to order a replacement and even though it said there was a $20 replacement fee we were never charged for it. Check both sites to see if there is any difference in fees for joining or losing transponders. Depending on where you are in Mass you may be able to find a close location and just go get it. My family is in Mass and they have them and ours is from NJ and none of us have had any problems. We get our monthly statement, when there is usage, on-line.

My RI version of EZ Pass worked for every toll between here and D.C. in February. It saved TONS of time in Delaware & Maryland- what a breeze.

Ironically, RI only has one toll - the Newport Bridge - which we never use since we live in the NE corner of the state. We got the pass only to make our many trips through NY easier.

I'm glad you posted this question because I was not aware that the Sunpass did not participate in the EZ Pass network. I was planning to bring ours for our rental car next month!

You can get an EZ Pass from any participating state. Different states have different prices for the transponders, some states have annual fees, some states have extra discounts for in-state usage.

You can also get a Sunpass if you don't live in Florida.

The EZ Pass that works in MA works in all the states that you'll drive in. It works in MA, (CT doesn't have tolls), NY, NJ, DE, MD, VA. Also works in PA and WV (if you need it).

NC/SC/GA don't have tolls.

It doesn't work in FL, but unless you're going to the airport or the beach, you won't drive on any toll roads in Florida.

=> Your MA EZPass will get you there and back. You do not need anything else for tolls.

I recommend an EZPass for anyone coming from the Northeast. Costs nothing; will save you 30-60 minutes waiting in line. Furthermore, there are special lanes in MD for EZPass drivers that may save you some time. They have full speed booths for the EZPass cars (don't have to slow down at all).

I read on the EZ pass website that the transponder is linked to one car. Can you use one transponder and move it from car to car?

I know a lot of people that use them from car to car. I work with some one who uses her sister's EZ Pass. I know on the website once you have an EZPass account you can go in and register more cars. We had four cars registered at one point and three transponders. We then got a fourth transponder so each car has one but if you only want 1 just register the extra cars. Since there is no fee if you use a cc for your balance through the EX Pass website, you can get several transponders sent to you.
