We're driving from Indy to WDW soon and need hotel advice. Last time we made it to Keenesaw and that was great. This time I'd like to make it to south of Atlanta. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel south of Atlanta, maybe an hour away? Thanks!!

I look on TripAdvisor a lot to find decent hotels. I would just look at what is an hour south of Atlanta on your trip and check out the area. You can put your dates into TripAdvisor, and get quotes.

Last time we drove from Indy, we stayed in Macon. Our hotel was a ways off the highway because DH wanted to pop into a museum there the next morning. I think it was a Residence Inn. We typically stick with Marriott brands (Fairfield, Springhill, Residence Inn) and I think there are a couple in Macon just off the highway. Macon
was a good distance for the first day.

We live in northern Indiana and have driven to WDW nearly 20 times. Here's my advice, especially at this time of year: do NOT take I-75 through Georgia! After multiple horrible experiences with road rage (ours and others) and several trip with hours-long stops for accidents and construction, we will NEVER take that route again.

We now take I-65 through Alabama, I-10, and SR 27 through rural Florida. It is slightly longer, but is beautiful and stress-FREE! We always stay overnight in Dothan, Alabama. My anxiety-prone husband is now a happy driver with no white knuckles. Worth the extra 1/2 hour to avoid the stress and the delays/stoppages on I-75, especially when 1/2 the Hoosier state is going to Florida.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Stockbridge, GA our last 2 trips. We will be using that hotel this year as well. It is about 1 hour south of Kennesaw, GA.

Macon is a good stopping point. We've stayed in Macon a couple of times. It's about an hour south of the south Atlanta suburbs.

One odd thing about driving through Macon. You don't want to drive through Macon; you actually want to take the bypass (I-475). It's actually shorter if you take the bypass.

All of the major lodging chains are on I-475,

I agree. stay on I-475 and bypass Macon. We stopped in Byron GA at the Comfort Suites last two drives. Good hotel, easy access, excellent breakfast included.

That's about an hour or so past Atlanta, and only another 5 or so hours to WDW the next morning.
