We want to drive about 12 hours but not sure where to stay. Please recommend a nice, clean hotel with breakfast...TIA!

If you're taking I-79/I-77, you'll be driving through Charlotte, NC. That's about a 12-hour drive from our place in Mississauga. There's a decent Fairfield Inn there that we found well priced about 9 years ago. It includes breakfast so you don't have to go hunting for food next day.

We are looking for a hotel on the way back home....possibly in West Virginia. We want to to the bulk of the driving on the 1st day since we will be arriving at the border on Labour Day and we anticipate a very long wait.

Beckley, WV is around 12 hours from Orlando. Fairmont, WV is about 14.5 hours. On principle I won't stay in Summerville because speed traps preying on travelers are evil. The challenge is that there are few hotels between Summerville and Fairmont.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Fairmont driving back on our 2010 trip and it was a nice hotel. Be sure to make a reservation. In 2010 there were local college football games and it was hard to find room.

We don't have kids, tend to speed a little bit and make brief stops for gas and food. We like to stop driving by dinner hour so we can have a sit down meal. We like Holiday Inn Express. We make it to the HIE in Princeton, WV in about 10.5 hours - 11 hours. There's also a fairly new HIE just off the highway in Weston, WV which would be about a 12.5 hour to 13 hour drive. We have not stayed there but I have heard good things.
