Driving from Charlotte...help!

We would like to drive about 5 hours and then spend the night in an inexpensive hotel. I am thinking that this would put us at about Brunswick GA. Is that about right. We are in South Charlotte. Any ideas of a good place to stop and not spend a fortune on a room just to sleep in? Also, I thought there was a site that listed hotels on I95 but I can't find it. Thanks in advance.

Not that I've done it yet, but I've considered driving to Orlando, and it's only about an 8 hour drive ... I'd really try and bite the bullet and drive straight-through if I were you ...

If not, you may try to get to Jacksonville, FL ... the airport is north of the city actually and there are several nice new hotels there (Hilton Garden Inn, Marriott Residence Inn) that you can get a good deal at ... that shouldn't be much more than 5 hours driving and will leave you about 3 hours driving in the morning.

When you first cross into the state youre staying in, go to the visitor bureau and pick up a coupon book.. you can *usually* get rates around 35/40 dollars for a night and certain hotels.

We'll be driving from Jacksonville, NC next year but we're just going the 11 hours straight.

We have driven straight through in the past. This year we can't leave home until about 7:30 at night and we don't want to get to WDW in the middle of the night. Thanks for the input.

We drive from just outside Winston-Salem and it takes 9 hours. There's plenty of national chains just north of Jacksonville, though we find many of them to be pretty expensive. We usually leave around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and Priceline a room in Orlando for the first night.
