I saw a post on here from 2010 regarding taking 81/77 to Myrtle Beach SC, however, all gps routes tell me to take 95 which I want to avoid. I am traveling from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Would anyone be able to give me directions using I 81? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

If you are trying to avoid I-95 in the DC area another option is this.

I-81 to I-66 to US-17 to I-95

It brings you to I-95 south of DC in Fredricksburg, VA. My parents have used it a couple times in their RV and will be using it again this weekend heading to the OBX and eventually Disney. A friend of theirs who hauls boats swears by this route. North of Richmond there will be an LED sign that tells you the time it will take you to go through Richmond or go around on I-295. With no traffic it's about the same amount of time.

Going from Allentown, PA to Myrtle Beach, SC via I-81 and I-74 (which is a better choice than I-77 which goes further south to Charlotte) is anywhere from 1.5 - 2 hours longer than taking I-95 South. I personally would take I-95 South from Allentown and then go around DC as mentioned above
