Since we are staying off-property we will be renting a car to get around. I know you have to pay for parking at the parks, BUT.. can you park at the Contemporary and take the monorail to the park? And do they charge for parking there, like when you go to Chef Mickey's? Looking to save a buck however I can.

We have never stayed off property. However, when you go to one of the resorts for dinner they will ask for id and your parking pass from the resort you are staying at, and ask why you are there. When you make your ADRs, I would ask about the parking if not staying on property. You cannot park at the contemporary and go to MK - you can only park there while you go to dinner.

Hotels on the monorail line give out parking passes to place on the dash of your car. They are good for 3 hours max.

If you have an ADR at a resort, the guard will ask for your name and look it up on his master list. You will get a 3-hour parking pass that is time-stamped so they'll know when it runs out. You are not allowed to park at a resort while you go to a park. Resort parking is only for people staying at that resort. People visiting the resort to eat or shop can only get a 3-hour pass.

You can ride the monorail from the MK parking lot too!

One of the trade-offs of not staying onsite is that you have to pay for parking, so please budget for that, as parking at a resort to avoid paying a parking fee takes away a parking spot for someone who actually is staying at that resort.

smart idea:idea: too bad it doesnt work:headache:

Definitely a nice idea, but they are really stringent about parking at the monorail resorts for this very reason. There were too many problems with the actual hotel and dining guests not being able to park there rightfully. The guardhouse does ask for id and checks your name on their list for dining. Even if you are saying you just want to look around, you can only get a 3 hour pass. To me, it is not worth it for the few dollars it costs to park. When we were last there, CR had a lot of construction going on and their parking lot was seriously cut down, we had a hard time finding a spot and we were there because we were hotel guests. Not sure if the construction and smaller parking lot is still going on, but that could foil your plan as well.

Right in there with ya...but it looks like we will shell out $9 a day to park our cars.

But at least I'll have my own private pool to relax in.
