We are flying in and out of San Diego...doing SeaWorld and Legoland on the first part of our trip, then Disney on the second half. We are staying at HoJo's. Our flight leaves from San Diego at 11:30 am on a Saturday morning. What should we expect our drive time to be on a Saturday morning taking traffic into consideration?

Thanks Everyone.

the last time we drove from costa mesa to the san diego convention center it took us about 2 1/2 hours with traffic, but we were going to comic-con, so traffic was especially heavy.

I don't think it should take more than 2 hours on a Saturday morning.

I live about 20 minutes from the airport, and it takes me about an hour and 10 minutes to get home from DL after rush hour at night (these times are based on the exit I live off of).

I drive pretty fast and use the carpool lane, but I think if you allow 2 hours, you should be ok.

If you leave Orange County before 10:00 in the morning (which you would have to, in order to make an 11:30 flight!), then you shouldn't have a lot of traffic to San Diego. Since your flight leaves at 11:30 I assume you want to be at the airport no later than 10:00 - if you leave the HoJo by 8:00-8:30 you should be fine. You might want to add additional time to allow for returning a rental car - there are no on-airport rentals, so you'll have to take a shuttle bus from the rental car agency back to the airport.

I will let you know. I am doing this drive tomorrow morning.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Tink, we actually fly out tomorrow, but I'll try to check back in for your response while we're out there. Hopefully I'll have time to get on the computer.:surfweb: Thank you so much!

It will take you a minimum of 2 hours. Maybe more if there's any kind of traffic or an accident. My bil lives right by the airport and if we leave our house in OC at 8, we arrive around 10 usually. I would leave a little earlier and be safe. Better to be waiting IN the airport for your flight than sitting on highway 5 somewhere in north San Diego county traffic.

have a great time...wave when you pass the 405/5 split...turn right on the 5 on your way to DL!!!

I agree. I used to live about an hour south of DL off the 5 freeway and I worked in downtown SD, which w/o traffic took me 45 minutes to get to (with traffic 1 to 1-1/4 hours). So an hour north to DL and 45 minutes w/o traffic to downtown. I would give yourself at least 2 hours. It may take less, but it can also easily take more. If there are any events going on that weekend at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, traffic could be terrible. You may want to check that out so you can plan accordingly if there are.
