Drive Like the Wind Bullseye! March 11-March 18, 2017-Dining Review - Last Update

All of it! Lol! It's pretty rare that people order exactly what I would have! Steak, short ribs, and ALL THE DESSERTS!

I just noticed your avatar photo!! I love it so much. Is that the bread pudding at Raglan Road?? YUM!!

Lol! Yes. Classic case of my eyes being bigger than my stomach. I barely made a dent. But it was delish!

I tried as well. DH and I even split something for dinner so I would have room. Couldn't even manage half of it. It is so good though.

The egg hunt is so fun!! And so cute. I thought they moved the eggs around every few days, but I don;t know if that rumor is true or not.

Susan
Ooh I hope that's true! It'll be more fun for me next month and more annoying for DH lol

Yak and yeti is on our list for the next trip and DH and I will be sharing. Looks like you had some good options for that

Coca Cola Rooftop Drinks

DD has a gift card she wants to spend. And it is burning a hole in her pocket. She MUST spend this money. It needs to be TODAY and it needs to be at Disney Springs.

DH groans loudly, so I offer to take her. He drives us there and drops us off at the Marketplace.

We looked in all of the shops.

We REALLY liked this store.

I mean I LOVED the stuff they had in here. But the largest size they had in most things was a large. And since I am way too chubs for that, I didn’t buy anything. If I lost about 30 pounds though, I would buy that store out. I ALMOST got a super cute jacket. I loved the jackets they had. And they had some XL’s, but I live in South Texas, and I wasn’t sure how much I was going to use a $70 jacket.

But dang they were cute.

Here is what it looked like

But they had them in several different colors.

Anyhoodle, we moved on. DD was holding out for the Coca Cola Store.

She loved it here and spent all her money – and some of mine.

After that, we went upstairs to the roof top deck.

Where we decided to try the International Tray of drinks.

This was 16 drinks and they were only about $9.00.

This was fun and we drank some of them and didn’t like some of them. But it was neat to try them all. I think there is another one that has ice cream in several of them.

In Feb. I went up to the rooftop there because I'd heard the view was awesome. It was nice but not AWESOME. I did have some type of diet grape soda that I can't get around here at all so that was nice lol! I know what you mean about DD needing to spend her money NOW. Younger DS holds onto his money forever but older DS spends it the minute he gets it :sad2:

I agree that the view wasn't THAT amazing. I think it would have been cooler at night, maybe.

The way my DD needs to get rid of her money - you would think it were poison or something - haha

Day 5 – Part One

We got up early this morning because we had a reservation at Crystal Palace for breakfast. So DD, DH and I went over to MK to eat. This morning was very chilly in the 40’s as we left.

I didn’t get any food photos, but we got this photo.

http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 5/IMG_3664.jpg.html
It was a good breakfast.

This is your typical breakfast buffet. Eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, Mickey Waffles. Characters were Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet. It was good and I'm glad we did it. It was nice to be in the park early for a change and even though this was supposed to be our rest day, we got some rides in. I promise more food photos and a good story about it in the next post!!

After that, we headed over to ride

It said 15 minute wait, but we got right on.

After that, we had a fast pass for Big Thunder

And then we rode Haunted Mansion

And then we rode the Peoplemover.

Then we went back to the room to rest. We were so tired on this day. I ran a couple of loads of laundry and I think I took a nap.

NEXT UP - Grand Floridian Afternoon Tea!!!

Day 5 – Part Two

At about 2 PM, all of us girls went over to the Grand Floridian for the Tea Party. We stopped at the Polynesian to look around the resort and the shops there.

http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 5/DSC04812.jpg.html

Here’s what I bought.

My kids stole these from me. I managed to get the black one back.

http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 5/DSC04890.jpg.html

This became a blanket. I got this for our grandson. The hubs has older kids from a previous marriage and this is for their son.

Then we hopped back on the monorail and got off at the Grand Floridian.

I just love the Grand Floridian. It is such a beautiful place. I would love to stay there some day.

Our reservation was for 3 PM, so we checked in and looked in the shops for a bit.

Finally, they called our name and we were seated.

We all ordered the

The Bedfordshire Tea -

First Course
Medley of Finger Sandwiches accompanied with Berries, Cheese and Lavosh
-
Second Course
Buttery Scone and Jam Tart
-
Finale
Choice of delicate House-Made Pastries, Strawberries and Creme, or English Trifle

Accompanied by your choice of tea
(charge for additional pots of tea)
$35

This was a chilly day so I was delighted with the prospect of hot tea.

The GF and I got Earl Grey and DD got apple juice in her pot since she is not a tea drinker.

Next came the finger sandwiches and an onion tart.

These were starting with the tarts left bottom going clockwise – egg salad, curry chicken salad, cucumber, and goat cheese with golden beets.

See anything with seafood in it? No? Yep. Me either. Stay tuned.

DD got just ham and cheese for her sandwiches because – well, I think we’ve established how picky she is.

She loved them though and I was very thankful the restaurant was willing to do this for her. In light of what happened to me later that day, I should have done this myself.

Moving on.

Next up was the scone and chocolate covered strawberry.

Accompaniments were apricot jam, Devonshire cream and lemon curd. I just love lemon stuff, so I really enjoyed the curd paired with the cream. Delicious!!

And lastly – the desserts.

We particularly loved the swan. So, so good. Almost to pretty to eat. It was like a cream puff.

We have done this several times now and it never disappoints. I really enjoyed it and the girls did as well.

We paid the tab and headed back to Bay Lake Tower.

View from the monorail

http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 5/DSC04802.jpg.html

We got back and the big kids took DD back over to Magic Kingdom, while DH and I settled in the for the night. I was pretty tired after 4 days straight of 8 or more miles of walking.

With the big kids at Magic Kingdom, DH and I settled down for the evening. I took a shower, got caught up on some work emails and wrote some trip report notes in my journal. I love my journal. It is so pretty.

http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 5/DSC04801.jpg.html

While I was typing and writing, I remarked to DH that my hands were super itchy and wasn’t that weird? He said take some Benadryl, so I did.

After about 15 minutes, my hands were swelling. I showed DH and he said that WAS weird. I thought the Benadryl might help, so I didn’t think much of it.

DH went over to the Contempo Café to get dinner. I just wanted a ChickencCaesar salad, dressing on the side.

Caesar Salad with Chicken - with house-made croutons, shredded parmesan, cheesy breadcrumbs, and cracked black pepper; with salmon $11.29; $10.49

This was not the greatest salad, but it was fine. The chicken was really dry, but otherwise, it was just what I needed since I wasn’t really hungry after the tea party.

DH got

Beef Pot Roast - served with seasonal accoutrements $11.99

It looked yummy and DH said that it was.

He also brought back these two desserts.

http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 5/DSC04818.jpg.html

He had the cupcake and I had the chocolate ganache. So yummy. As I was eating, I noticed the first huge hive that appeared on my wrist. Several soon followed and soon my arms were covered in hives.

I took more Benadryl. This was about 9 or 10 PM. By 11 PM, my neck and chest were covered. I asked DH what he thought about it and he said he didn’t know. He asked me how I felt and really – besides being itchy, I felt fine. Tired – but fine. I was not having trouble breathing. So we decided to wait it out.

By midnight my entire trunk is covered with hives. DH is asleep, the kids are back and they are asleep. I still felt OK – not having trouble breathing. So I popped another Benadryl and tried to get some sleep.

I woke up about 5 AM – more hives and now my eyes were super itchy. More Benadryl – and I made a mental note about the epi pens we had in our luggage.

BY 7 AM – I was awake and having trouble seeing. I looked in the mirror and yeah – that looked bad. You know that movie Hitch with Will Smith and Eva Mendes? When he had that allergy attack – that is pretty much what I looked like. Like an alien. Eyes almost swollen shut, lips are huge and hives EVERYWHERE. I swallowed – still OK there. A little wheezy though. Time to get some medical attention. I wake DH – he looks at me and sits up quickly. Oh my God – he said. I was like yeah – we need to go to the ER. He said yes you DO. There may have been a few cuss words for emphasis.

We call the front desk and they connect us to urgent care. They aren’t open yet, they open at 8AM. We google the location and head down to the car. We pull in the parking lot about 7:45 AM to wait. It was pretty cold out this morning high 30’s, I think.

The urgent care we went to was Lake Buena Vista Centra Care on 12500 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando, FL.

They opened and we walk in with another young lady who was waiting outside as well. She said – I think she needs to go first – HA. They took one look at me and took me right back.

By this time my tongue was thickening and I was having trouble speaking. The doctor fussed at me for not getting help sooner as by this time I was a hot mess. But she was super nice and hooked me up with a steroid shot in the hiney.

She said that would help me a great deal and she was right. In 20 minutes, I could see again and talk again, swelling in my hands went down. It was pretty amazing how effective it was. She said the steroids basically tell my histamines to knock it off and behave – haha. She gave me some more steroids to take over the next ten days and some ointment for the hives which she said would last a few more days. She said if I got any worse later, then head to the ER at the hospital which was close by.

With our insurance coverage, it cost $25 for the visit and $25 for the medicine which they gave us there. It was so nice not to have to go to the drug store to get it filled.

So what could have been a really bad experience turned out really well for us. It helped that we arrived right before they opened. And that they got me in there real quick. So it really worked out well for us.

We were back at the resort by 9:45 AM.

I was hungry, so we stopped at the Contempo Café for breakfast. I was still covered with hives and a little puffy, but I no longer looked like an alien. I still got a few looks and someone in line asked me if I was OK. I told her what happened and that I had just gotten back from the urgent care. I felt good, really. Itchy – but good. Steroids are awesome.

For breakfast DH got.

Bounty Platter - Scrambled Eggs with shredded cheddar, Bacon, Turkey Sausage, Breakfast Potatoes, French Toast, and seasonal fruit $11.49

I got

Mickey-shaped Waffle - with choice of Fruit Topping, Bacon, and Sausage $9.99

Here is all the meat that came with it.

I ate the sausage, DH ate the bacon. The waffle was warm and doughy – just the comfort food I needed that morning.

DH headed back to the room while I went to the front desk to tell them what happened and to see if we might get our fast passes back from the ones we missed that morning. I also wanted to get the number for the Tea Room at the Grand Floridian. I needed to find out what was in those finger sandwiches. Because whatever it was – I was pretty allergic to it.

In true Disney style, the front desk was very kind and said they would get the GF Tea Room to call me and gave us or two fast passes we missed – Toy Story and Star Tours. We had Rockin Rollercoaster for later that day – for the big kids. We were going to be able to make that one.

Anyway, we gathered everyone up and headed over to Hollywood Studios.

Phew!

I have to say, your recount totally made me giggle. I knew you were going to be okay, but I was worried about an ambulance ride... While no fun at all, I'm glad you got quick and helpful care.

My allergies manifest themselves differently, and I have to say that even 90-some days out from our trip, I live in fear of being too far from a bathroom when I need it. :o
