Drive Like the Wind Bullseye! March 11-March 18, 2017-Dining Review - Last Update

Dessert from previous post

DD wanted some cheesecake so the waiter brought her this to go.

It is caramel cheesecake. She ate it later and loved it.

For dessert, DH got

Whispering Canyon Campfire-style Chocolate Gooey Cake $8

I didn’t taste this, but he really liked it.

And I got.

Granny Smith Apple-Caramel Tart - with gelato $9

I just love apple desserts especially when the weather is cool. It reminds me of Fall in the Midwest where I grew up. My grandma had an apple tree in her front yard and we would climb it and get apples for apple crisp and things like that.

And y’all – this had a layer of CARAMEL inside of it. It was so yummy and comforting to me.

The large party just next to us had several children. They were winding down and one of the youngest – a little boy was starting to get that look. You know the one that says – I’m just about DONE.

I tuned to DH and said MAN DOWN!! And just then, the emotional breakdown began. I felt bad for the little guy, but it was sort of funny to see it all go down. They packed him up with everyone else and made their way out.

Also, someone dropped a huge clip of money that DD found. We gave it tour waiter and he said he could probably get it back to them by finding the phone number on their reservation. I hope they got it back. It looked like a lot of money.

We paid out tab and headed back out to the boat dock just as the Electric Light Parade was passing by.

I just love the ELP. Such a fun little water parade!!

Our boat came and we all bundled on. Our boat captain was amazing. He sang to us.

He sang A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow and When You Wish Upon a Star. His voice was amazing and we were entranced. We all clapped when he docked the boat back at the Contemporary.

We made our way up to the room and settled in for the night.

Mmmm...WCC is always delish. Now I'm regretting not fitting it into our upcoming trip. But we've eaten there twice now and really want to try new places.

I understand wanting to try new places for sure. I feel like we are always working our meals around the picky eater. I have to MAKE SURE they will have something she will eat.

Your WCC review has me thinking that the AYCTE skillet is possibly an alternative to HDD - if that singing skipper of yours showed up. I've done HDD once and that was enough. DH wants to do it again and I'd rather do WCC. :-) I'm a huge fan of apple and caramel, your dessert sounds wonderful.

How cool with the timing of the water pageant when you were leaving. I'm glad they still do that since it's become nostalgic. One of the reasons the Lake View rooms at BLT work so well to see this water show.

And yes, I followed your allergy "adventure" on FB. Sorry that was a footnote to the trip.

That dessert was sooo good.

I just adore the ELP. We had a lake view, but could not see the ELP form our balcony at BLT. It was just out of sight. We could hear it, but we had to go our to the skyway to see it. So we were happy to see it at the dock.

It was an adventure for sure - but I only let it slow me down a little bit. Thank goodness for a steroid shot. That thing worked wonders!!

Breakfast at the Wave

Since the big kids didn’t come to dinner with us the night previous, we had some extra table service credits. I quietly woke of DH and suggested we sneak down to the Wave for breakfast. He agreed and we got dressed and headed down.

Now I’m about to tell you guys something. This place is a HIDDEN GEM when it comes to breakfast. We did not have an ADR and we were seated right away.

We were greeted and given coffee and juice and then we hit the buffet. I usually can’t get decent photos of the food on the buffet, but this place was practically empty, so snuck back there with my camera. I only got a couple weird looks, so I hope it was worth it to you guys.

This was a FANTASTIC buffet. Everything was so good and the restaurant was so mice and quiet. It was just what we needed to start our busy day.

We went back to wake up the kids and drag them out of bed for our day at Animal Kingdom.

I really want to try The Wave for breakfast, but can't fit it into our plans for our next visit. Next year!

I fell behind because we had a quick trip to the World last week! We got to enjoy many of the F&G booths and I completely agree with you that the drink at the France booth is pretty much the best drink ever :cloud9: It's my new favorite! We enjoyed the onion tart there, too.
Funny because we also tried the Wave breakfast for the first time. DH isn't a huge breakfast guy; he thought it was fine but I loved it! Did you try any of the yogurt parfaits? I'm not a yogurt person but adding bananas, caramel and white chocolate to it-yes! Everything was fresh and our server was great. Not busy at all when we were there, either.
I did the egg hunt, it's so cute! I'll be doing it again on our May trip (cheating :rolleyes1) so I can get myself another egg prize lol.

Ah - lucky you to have another trip!! Yes the F&G booths - love them. And YES to that drink!! Best ever!!

My DH lives for breakfast. He is the yogurt person, so he had the one with the berries in it. I like yogurt, but I have to be in the mod for it. It is weird texture thing with me. Kind of like bananas. I like them, but they have ti be the right ripeness But - yes - the Wave was the best breakfast of our trip.

The egg hunt is so fun!! And so cute. I thought they moved the eggs around every few days, but I don;t know if that rumor is true or not.

Yay for another trip in May!!

Susan

I've started making a list of F&G booths I want to try next month. That shrimp and grits looked so good! The Carmel s'more is my favorite treat in Germany!
I gave my sisters their bags this weekend and they loved them....thank you again!

California Grill!!

After a fun day at Magic Kingdom – our first full park day – we headed back to the resort to get everyone together for dinner at California Grill.

We enjoyed a glass of wine on the balcony while my hair was air drying after a shower.

Once everyone was ready we headed back across the skyway.

Fun carpet in the hallway

We checked in here.

After that, they take you upstairs to the 15th floor where we were seated right away.

It was DH’s birthday that week, so we were celebrating.

DH got some wine. I think it was a merlot, but I can’t remember.

I got a lemon drop martini

I love me some lemony vodka drinks.

The kids got sodas and the bread came.

This was a mixture of sourdough rolls and a lavender focaccia, I believe. Both were good, but we tried not to fill up.

DD is pretty much the pickiest person alive, so she got macaroni and cheese. Rather than waste 2 TS credits on her entrée, we paid for hers out of pocket.

House-made Macaroni & Cheese $9

She loved this.

The big kids each ordered

Oak-fired Filet of Beef - Gruyere, black truffle, and caramelized red onion risotto, roasted baby carrots, herb salsa verde $49

I imagine they liked it. They ate everything, said thanks and took off for the Magic Kingdom for the night. DH was irritated that they left, but I was sort of thankful to not have to deal with them, so I was good with staying and taking my time enjoying my dinner.

I was tempted by the filet myself, but I wanted to try something different. DH and I both ordered.

Slow-braised Boneless Beef Short Rib
Piquillo-Cheddar Grits, Autumn Root Vegetables, Gooseberries, Red Wine Jus $49

This was delicious!! We enjoyed every bit and we were full.

But – hey – we still had dessert coming. And since the big kids had already left, we were getting their desserts as well. Since we paid for DD’s mac n cheese out of pocket, this meant we had four desserts coming for three people. DD loves the kid’s sushi that Cali Grill always does, so she ordered that.

California Grill Signature Puffed Rice Sushi $7.00

This is basically rice crispie treats, fruit roll-ups and Swedish fish, but she loved it and was happy. We sometimes make this at home for fun.

Me?? I had to have some chocolate.

Chocolate Pudding Cake

Luscious Chocolate Cake with Nutella Filling, Meringue Kisses, and Chantilly Cream $14

This was a fabulous mixture of sweet and salty and mixed textures. Very rich and very delectable.

DH got some kind of blueberry cheesecake that I can’t find on the menu.

He loves berries and said this was very good.

We still had one more dessert credit, so we got the

Warm Homemade Fritters - apple-stuffed, Cinnamon-dusted Fritters complemented with a Trio of Dipping Sauces $13

These were amazing warm doughy carbohydrate goodness. We didn’t eat all of them, but we tried our best. We were so stuffed.

They brought DH a birthday cupcake

He ate this a few days later and said it was sort of like Boston cream cake or pi or some such. He said it was really good though.

I believe our waitress’ name was Leah and she was lovely. We really enjoyed our meal here.

After dinner, we were beat and headed back to the room to rest up for the next day – EPCOT!!!

Wow! That's probably the best looking dinner I've seen ordered at CG in a long time!

We really liked everything we tried at F&G. The shrimp and grits were delicious!!

I love just about everything from the Caramel store. Even the smell. YUM!!

YAY!! I'm so glad they liked them!! That fabric is pretty rare.

Are speaking about a certain entree? Or just the whole things in general? I really enjoyed my short ribs that is for sure. DELICIOUS!!

Yak and Yeti lunch

This photo is for show – don’t let it fool you – it was packed.

Since we had an ADR – we were seated within about 10 minutes.

For starters we got

Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce $9.99

These are just so good. And that sauce. it would taste good on anything.

DH and I weren’t super hungry, so we split

Kalbi Steak & Coconut Shrimp - grilled marinated flat iron steak, mango-pineapple salsa, coconut shrimp, chili plum sauce, wasabi mashed potatoes, stir-fried vegetables $28.99
http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/Disney 2017/Day 4/DSC04779.jpg.html

This was good and easy to split. Plenty of food. And shrimp. I ate it. I was fine. It was delicious.

DD got

Chicken and French fries.

DS and the GF split this.

Teriyaki Chicken - marinated chicken, pineapple-onions-pepper skewer, Teriyaki glaze, coconut-ginger rice, stir-fried vegetables $20.99

Again -a lot of food and plenty for them to eat. After they ate that, they took off on their own again to explore.

DH, DD and I stayed for dessert.

DH and I each got

Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle $8.99

Angels sang, y’all. I love this dessert so, so much. Absolutely fantastic!!

DD got

New York Cheesecake - with mango and strawberry coulis, whipped topping $8.49

Except she got it plain.

Because she is boring.

She ate it all though, so it must have been good.

Are speaking about a certain entree? Or just the whole things in general? I really enjoyed my short ribs that is for sure. DELICIOUS!!

All of it! Lol! It's pretty rare that people order exactly what I would have! Steak, short ribs, and ALL THE DESSERTS!
