Drive I77/79 place to stay near columbia sc

Any recommendations on hotels to stay at near or in columbia sc. for the first night stay on the drive to wdw.

That's our usual route when driving (we are in Trenton and cross the border near Syracuse).

We stayed at the Best Western in Columbia, just off the interstate and very near Ft. Jackson. Sorry I can't give you more precise location on it right now. We picked it from CAA and it was a decent place with restaurants close by. If memory serves, it was on the far side of town. Nice thing about the location was that leaving in the morning, rush hour wasn't a problem. Not too far from the turn off to the I26.

About 30-40 minutes further down the road is Orangeburg on I 26. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn (on points) and thought it was really good. Nice breakfast in the morning. Again, close to restaurants.

There a quite a few hotel options in the exits surrounding Fort Jackson on I77 because they service families coming in for basic training graduations. Fort Jax is in Columbia right off the freeway (own exit ramp)

Thank you. I was aware of that. I thought the OP would prefer the name of a Hotel that could be recommended, so that they could perhaps make a reservation, rather than just pulling off the interstate at dinner time. Not something I would recommend in this city, given its very high number of visitors, especially around the Ft. Jackson area.

Downtown Columbia is beautiful!!! We always stay at the Hampton Inn Columbia Downtown Historic District.

We've been looking online for rates/places to stop along that route, that location as well!

Very hesitant to pre-book anything in case we decide to break sooner than we plan on. It's about a 14 hour drive to get us to Columbia.

My fear is that then we'll be driving around all night looking for a place to stay!

Our biggest issue is the 3 kids - nothing seems to be available for the number we are.

Is it wise to go in, book the room based on 2 kids (getting 2 queen beds) and then just hustle the third in the door?

We are family of 5 and 2 chains that accomodate our family are Comfort Suites and Holiday Inn Express.

Never a smart thing to do. By doing this you are violating fire codes and if caught would be booted out tout de suite.

Better to do a bit of research ahead of time, find the hotels that can accommodate 5 and book rooms at those.

I totally get the misleading thing due to fire codes....it was a very fleeting thought!

My biggest worry is that we'll get down there at 8 or 9 at night, and be unable to find a room!

But I don't want to pre-book anything in case we just can't push that far and need to stop sooner...
