We are DVC members who have joined Owner's Locker. :thumbsup2 We love the idea and are putting a list together of things we want to put in our locker. One thing for sure is a Brita or Pur water filter. The water at the Disney resorts is awful ... atleast to us. We usually fill a small suitcase with bottled water and look forward to being one suitcase short on each trip. We're thinking of the kind of water filter that goes on the faucet instead of the pitcher (it will take less room in the locker tub).

Anyway, has anyone else done this and if so what are your recommendations of Brita vs. Pur systems. Also, does it help with the taste of the water?

Thanks a bunch y'all!! :goodvibes

Well, my only concern would be that after having water gone through it, be sure to remove the filter cartridge and replace it next trip. Otherwise, I could see nasty things growing in your filter.

We used the Brita one that attaches to the faucet. The filter actually has a color button on it that tells you when you need a new one, and you will get several trips on each filter. It's super easy to put on and take off, and we put it in the kitchen so folks from both bedrooms could have access to it.

If I were you, I'd stick to the pitcher type brita or pur. You may need tools to attach the filter to the faucet, plus you could put the pitcher in the refrigerator for some refreshing cold water. Personally we don't mind the water at Disney, it tastes better than what flows through our taps at home, where we do use a brita pitcher.

No tools needed other than a thumb and forefinger! Twist on, twist off. You do have to screw off the areator from the faucet and screw on the filter device. Then don't forget to replace everything when you go home.

But sometimes those aerators can be pretty well stuck to the faucet.

LOL, well that might be true if maintenance hasn't been changing them regularily! So far no problems though.

Thanks y'all! Our son bought a Brita pitcher and was telling us today that he really likes it. Looks like Brita it is ... now pitcher or faucet ... hmmmmm. :goodvibes We'll make that decision while standing in front of the display ... ha.

we don't enjoy the sulfur taste of the water either..blech..
We haven't used the filters because we have water delivered to our room..

I don't think it is sulfur. I have well water with sulfur problems. It is different. The Disney water (including VB & HHI) has some sort of a sodium taste (not exactly salty), but somehow in that family of flavor. I've always wondered if they desalinate ocean water for domestic usage.

We keep the Brita faucet filter in our OL and it works great. No problem with icky things growing in it between trips. Of course, when we remove it from the faucet, we drain it well, then we put it in a baggie with a folded paper towel...then place the baggie in our OL without closing the baggie all the way,so there is some airflow. The OL has a snug fitting lid, but I don't believe it is airtight. The water tastes great when using the filter.

Thanks again everyone! Decision is made ... a Brita faucet filter. SamSam thanks for the advice on storing the filter.

We used to have water delivered to our room when we traveled with our sons. However, we are now "empty nesters" and it is just my DH and I going and don't want to pay for so many bottles of water with just the two of us drinking it.

We've packed our Brita pitcher for the past three trips. It works wonderfully. Nice cold pitcher of water in the fridge when we get back from the park. We buy our first day's water bottles in the park, then save and refill those for the rest of the trip.

$7 for a couple of 24 packs of watter bottles from Walmart or Costco goes a looooong way. And they stay nice and cold in the fridge. :cool1:

And then truck it to landlocked Orlando....? I don't think so. It's typical Florida water.

Actually, the main source of water for central Florida is from aquifers, including saline aquifers fed by the ocean. Many of the saline aquifers leak into fresh water aquifers and that water requires some amount of desalination. Some companies draw directly from saline aquifers and desalinate the water.

Disney does have and use desalination technology and equipment for supplying Castaway Cay and the cruise ships. So it seems in the realm of possibilities.

Maybe not likely though.

Once upon a time Brita made "fill-n-go" water bottle-sized filtered bottles (24-32oz) that you could use over and over. We took them to WDW and they were great......I don't think they make them anymore. For our 2007 trip I looked into buying replacement filters for the bottles we had and could not find them at any store or online.

Last trip we flavored the WDW water with Crystal Lite powder. We made a pitcher and filled reusabe drink bottles each morning. :)
