Is there one? I read somewhere that people go all out for it. I plan on being at Epcot that day, and heading straight to the Party in my casual and neat "park" clothes. Any thoughts?

DW & I have attended the PFTS, and casual clothes are acceptable. We both went directly from the park in shorts and polo shirts, and we fit in quite nicely. Some do get very dressed, but I think the majority when we attended were dressed very casually.

Last year there were sequins and there were blue jeans. This is a wonderful event. Go and enjoy yourselves and wear what makes you feel comfortable.

Eljay, When I ordered my tix today for PFTS, they indicated business smart casual...no shorts, tube or tank tops, sneakers or bathing suits. Is this just the recommended attire, and you think we are definitely safe wear shorts and sneakers?

I wore a casual skirt and top to one of the 2004 PFTS and felt a little underdressed. We did not see many people in shorts at all and there are a lot of people at PFTS. Most had pants (khakis) polos, nice skirts/tops, nice sandals, short dresses, etc.. on. I would feel out of place in shorts/sneakers but that is me. In 2005 we dressed up a bit. We also went to the Spirited Ball last year and they had mentioned no casual wear. Since it was an expensive event and a "ball" I wore a cocktail dress and DH wore nice pants, shirt and tie. He had wanted to wear a tux and I said I don't think so, but there were quite a few people in tuxes and gowns! There were mabye 2 couples in jeans/shorts and boy did they look uncomfortable when they saw how most were dressed!

PatriciaH is right on the mark:

When we went to PFTS last year, we saw possibly one person in shorts (I think), and 1 (for sure) in jeans, and they were WAY underdressed for the event. They clearly state for you the dress code when you make the reservations. I wore dockers and a nice golf shirt and blended right in. There was overall a wide range within the dress code: a few jackets and ties, dress slacks and skirts, some cocktail dresses, etc... but park attire (shorts, flip flops, etc...) was specifically mentioned ahead of time as not appropriate, during the reservation process.

I would have loved to have worn dress shorts and sandals, but since they were so specific about the attire when we ordered the tickets, I followed the dress code as stated. I am glad I did. I would have stuck out like a sore thumb otherwise.

I got the same business casual wear talk this morning. For $125, I'd hope everyone took some time out from the park to get ready and presentable for such an event.

I was going to say that I would have felt VERY uncomfortable in park attire. The night I went most folks were dressed up in what I would define as "business" causal or resort casual. I wore Capris and felt just fine. I did notice one couple in park attire (Shorts, t-shirt, hats) and she looked miserable. (He seemed fine LOL!)

If you go in park attire prepare to stand out and get some looks. There were a LOT of locals at my party and they dressed up and noticed those who didn't.

(And for that much money it really should be a fancier event then park attire!)

I completely understand that they recommend a dress code, and don't have a problem being a dressier than a tank top, flip flops, etc., but this is Disney World! Not all want to go back to their resort to change, nor be in dressey attire all day if they are at Epcot, nor carry a backpack with a change of clothing (that will end up getting wrinkled anyway). One should be able to dress comfortably (like dress shorts and a nice top), and not have to worry about bringing dressey clothes, or dressing up. I understand to a certain point, but even the business casual restaurants are a little more lenient on the attire. The price reflects the amount of time, work, and quality of the food and wine they are providing for the event, not how you dress.

Then I don't understand why someone would go to a fancy event (or restaurant) in that case? :confused3 Just go to a more casual one!

There are several different levels of park attire. While I can see t-shirts being a bad choice for this event, a nicer shirt like Ralph Lauren Polo and khakis, and a casual dress for me should be ok.

As for the shoes, by day 8 at the parks, I am unable to walk in anything but flat shoes or sneakers. My BF will wear sneakers but nicer ones - that can pass as shoes.

That is fine to wear according to the "business casual" dress code Disney has for PFTS. The OP was asking about shorts.

I must be attending the less formal PFTS. Where as we dressed up for the event a LARGE percentage of those attending were dressed very casually and wearing shorts. And yes, some were dressed in their park attire. What a great event but this year with the price increase we're going to try some of the other events. My only complainant about the PFTS is the large numbers that attend. This leads to longs lines at some of the food booths but still is an amazing fun event!!
