In the Special Rooms thread, we've highlighted various rooms that appeared to be more obstructed than other rooms, once we saw the actual pictures of the Dream. You can see the specific room numbers and additional pictures highlighted in the first post in that thread:

I was watching the video of the Dream taken by someone on the Wonder as they passed last night, and with the lights on in the stateroom, it really highlights just how obstructed some of these rooms are, when compared to their peers that are considered to be in the same category. Check out the picture below:

It's not the greatest picture, since captured from a video, but you can see the lights on in several of the rooms. The top row of porthole rooms are Deck 9. If you look at the first verandah to the left of the portholes, you can see part of the verandah door on the Deck 9 room 9664, and very little of the verandah door on the heavily obstructed Deck 8 room 8674. You can also see the impact of the obstructions to the right side of the porthole rooms, especially on Decks 9 (9652) and 7 (7668). I assume these same obstructions are present on the same rooms on the other side of the ship as well (9164, 8176, 9152, and 7182, respectively.)

For awhile now, we've seen DCL's virtual deck plan have some anomolies involving some of these obstructed rooms. For example, room 7680 shows on the deck plan as a Cat 6C room (not a currently valid published category.) 5680 is supposed to be a Cat 6A room, but it shows on the virtual deck plan as a Cat D8 Deluxe Stateroom with Verandah. While DCL has repeatedly said these are errors, they haven't fixed them either in the few months they've been listed this way.

For those sailing in these rooms this month, or in any of the rooms flagged as appearing obstructed, please be sure to take pictures of the obstructions. And please complain if you don't feel that it's fair that you're paying the same amount for the person in the room next to you!

I posted in the other thread..but wanted to thank you again..I am sailing in Nov, and had room 5524 booked..obstructed...was thankfully able to change to 5528, just fine..same price..I hope others are able to do the same or that Disney adjusts for this issue.

This will be our first cruise and I would have been highly upset, tragedy averted here..fingers crossed for fellow cruisers!

:worship:
Again thanks for detailing this for everyone...

Glad we could help!

If DCL does with these rooms as they did on the Wonder/Magic, they will be good deals. We had #6634 on the Wonder in Aug., and loved it so much, we booked #6634 for the Magic in Oct. 2011. Can't beat the deal - hope DCL does this with the Dream/Fantasy. Which leads me to, why not just reclassify them from the get go??? Common sense, I think.

My sister was booked in one of the obstructed aft cabins and I told her about the obstruction and she called and switched....why be in an obstructed cabin for the same price as a non obstructed one.

I also enjoy booking the obstructed ones on the Magic and Wonder AS I AM SAVING MONEY.

Maybe they thought no one would notice??

I had honestly thought they would have learned from the Magic/Wonder and tried to avoid these situations where possible in designing the new ships. They seemed to apply the lessons learned from the "noisy" rooms on Deck 2 of the Magic/Wonder in ensuring that none of the Deck 2 rooms on the Dream were under kitchens or restaurants or nightclubs. Not sure they carried it through to the obstructed verandahs.

As noted, the virtual deck plan has an anomaly where one of the OV cabins is shown as a Cat 6C. I like the thought of them downgrading those cabins and dropping the price on them. I wouldn't be as happy if they ended up adding another category and then raising the prices on the other non-OV cabins, though!

I got extremely lucky that on my very first cruise, where we paid for our parents to cruise as well and got them the cheapest verandah rooms we could get (Cat 7), our TA was able to secure the two secret verandah rooms on deck 7 for us. I hadn't yet heard about them, being brand new to DCL, but I thought that was the coolest treat in the world! They didn't mind the obstruction, and I enjoyed getting something for higher value than what I paid!!

What is a secret verandah?

On the Magic and Wonder, there are 4 rooms that are classified as Cat 7 navigator verandahs that actually have regular plexiglass verandahs. Those rooms (2 on Deck 7 and 2 on Deck 6) were originally Cat 5 and Cat 6 respectively. However, the verandahs have a slight to partial obstruction where the metal detailing crosses over the top corner of the verandah, similiar to the highlighted rooms on the Dream that are located immediately forward of the aft porthole rooms. After passengers complained about those obstructions, DCL reclassified them to Cat 7, which meant you could book them at a lower cost. Because they actually have a plexiglass verandah rather than the navigator verandah (which is only open in the porthole space), they are considered "Secret Verandah" rooms by folks on the DIS.

This goes along with the "Secret Porthole Rooms" on the Magic/Wonder which are obstructed porthole rooms formally classified as Cat 8 Oceanview rooms but downgraded to Cat 10 Deluxe Inside rooms, again after passenger complaints.

I thought 7180 was a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom, not a cabin with a verandah....am I wrong?

will want to show DW this thread when she wakes up. we want to book the dream onboard of the magic when we sail in oct. :cool1:

No, you're correct. Someone else alerted me to this typo as well. I meant to say 7182 and have updated the post. Sorry!
