We are going to WDW for our honeymoon next year and we have never been before. We are debating between buying a package or getting things seperatly. We will be staying for 6 nights so we were concerned about the cost of food. Would getting the silver dream maker package be worth it? Any other tips you might have for first timers would be greatly appreciated. Also, how do you redeem your "wishes" how do they know how many you have used??
DH and I used what was then called the Discovery Magic Package on our 10 year wedding anniversary celebration. I lost money because I used my wishes on breakfast meals. Each wish cost about $35 a person, so you come out better using wishes on expensive dinners. We got out monies worth at Teppanyaki, Wolfgang Puck's, Jiko, The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue, Hollywood Brown Derby, and San Angel Inn. But lost money at Crystal Palace, Tony's, Boma, Grand Floridian Cafe, and the RFC in the AK.
We also got our monies worth on spa treatments at the GF. You just need to do your research carefully and be careful of restaurants that require 2 wishes, because then you need to eat at least $70 per person and that's not easy to do! Cirque Du Soliel La Nouba and one of the tours is where you'll also get your monies worth with the wishes.
How do you know how many you have...from the time you check in, on your receipt is the number of wishes you start with. So for your 6 nights, your receipt should say 24 wishes. That's 2 wishes per person times the 6 nights. Each time you use a wish, it will deduct it from the previous total and print on the bottom of your receipt. You simply redeem them by telling your server or cashier you'd like to use your wishes. For example, when I was checking in for the Hoop at the Allstars, I told the CM that we would be using 2 of our wishes and it was taken care of. I told the server at the beginning of every meal that DH and I were using Discovery wishes and the bill was handled appropiately. You can use them anyway you want to...all in one day, none in a day, one a day, or whatever.
Just do your research and see if the package works for your budget. DH and I have decided that next time we go, we will just book everything separately...it just works better for us. Our park tickets were ultimate park hopper passes and we never went to any water parks. We did do DisneyQuest twice, so that worked out to our advantage. Without the Ultimate Hopper Passes, we would have had to pay another $24 a peice to get it. Just check it out and good luck.
