For those not familiar, the Buena Vista Trading Company (BVTC) is DVC's internal exchange company offering nightly stays through tight affiliations with other timeshare clubs. The current list of destinations include:Personally, I'd LOVE to see this list of destinations grown. I'd even say that I'd prefer to see this list grow over the development of new "off-property" DVC properties. It would be a great way to add flexibility to the club w/out incurring new development costs, sales costs, hospitality staffing, etc.

Locations I'd like to see added:
  • New York City -- perhaps The Manhattan Club, Grand Hyatt Manhattan, Hilton Club New York, the RVC properties or ... ??
  • Lake Tahoe, CA -- I see this request pop-up on the "Dream DVC Destination" threads from time to time. Perhaps a BVTC could pick one of the best timeshares already there for a mutually beneficial relationship?
  • Western States in general - perhaps a direct exchange with Worldmark for a few of their nicer properties in Washington (8), Oregon (6), California (16), Nevada (6), Arizona (3), New Mexico (3), Utah (4), Montana (1), Idaho (2) or Colorado (2)?? Many are already on the RCI exchange list ... why not form a closer relationship? Specifically, I think DVC folks would love the WM Yellowstone location -- easy walk into West Yellowstone Village. Or perhaps Marina Dunes, San Francisco, Running Y, Seaside, Coeur d’Alene, Rancho Vistoso, Sante Fe ... ??
  • BlueGreen Resorts? I think a Cabin at Big Cedar would be lovely!

Would anyone else favor expanding BVTC?

I would certainly like to see more options -- in fact, we recently bought Wyndham for more options including full RCI membership.

I don't know the timeshare industry well enough to guess which avenue would be the best, but I suspect that having full RCI membership or a combination of RCI and II, would be easier to accomplish. Full RCI membership would increase the options from a couple hundred (I don't know the actual number) to more than 6,000.

There is obviously a reason why DVC has never offered full membership in either RCI or II, but I don't know what that is.

From a DVC new inventory sales perspective, the fact that you can buy many timeshares with full RCI membership for less than $1,000 including closing costs has to hurt them with knowledgeable timeshare purchasers.
