Drawing Class at Magic of Animation in DHS

I just wanted to post about this because somehow, I have never heard of it. I read about it on the boards though right before our trip and made sure to try it out on our trip and it was awesome.

After Magic of Animation, when you enter the room with the characters, at the very end of that room is a non-descript door with benches in front and every half hour they hold a drawing class in a very cool room behind the door. They do one character per class and in my class we did Donald Duck and even though I can doodle, I really can't draw, but was astounded by my Donald. The animator that teaches the class, shows you in detail how to draw your character and most everyone was amazed at how their drawing came out. It's very cool. The class is every 1/2 hour and lasts about 20 minutes. Worth making time for. You get to keep your drawing and the paper says "Disney's Hollywood Studios" on it. I would have happily done another class, but wasn't able to work it in. I would say this is a "Don't Miss" sort of thing, plus a nice little break from the crowds. I took some pics of the room and will try to scan my Donald drawing to post that.

Anyone know how long the drawing classes have been going on? I am just floored that I never heard of it before.

Guess what me and DS have benn doing for the past hour - drawing Disney characters.

We did the animation drawings at Disneyland Paris last week and the kids loved it. We have all the Disney " How to draw" books so I have been the teacher and the kids my students

I did a class like this at Disney Quest in 2002. I don't know if it is the same class or not.

I know....we did this for the first time on our last trip....May 2008. I just happened to see some pictures, probably on the photography board, that someone posted of what they had drawn. It was cool, we drew Tink and Donald.

I wanna do Tink! Our teacher said she was a bit too hard to do in the class.

I love your siggie picture! We went over to the Contemporary just to get pictures at that Mickey sculpture. They came out so cool!

Just an FYI, if anyone is coming out to California.

There's a drawing class at California Adventure, as well. In fact, we went a couple of times and it was a highlight of our last trip to Disneyland. It's in the gorgeous animation building, right by the Turtle Talk with Crush.

We did this class about 3 times during our Aug visit. My dd LOVED it and would have done it even more.

We also did the one at Disneyquest a couple times. That one involves drawing on computers rather than paper, so it's a bit harder. You can purchase your drawings. I just took pictures of the screen with my camera.

We did this for the first time a few weeks ago and LOVED it. I can't believe we'd never tried it before - and I regret we didn't.

We drew Eeyore and our DS6 and DD9 wanted to do another class immediately after (we had to move on, but we'll do it again...and again later).

I do consider this a must-do at DHS - very different and interactive. Something to take home with you and maybe frame, as well.

I'll try to scan in the Tink we drew, but they are so big.

Thanks about the pic. We got to the Contemporary early for CG dinner, so we went out back and took some pictures around the marina.

We went on October 10th and we got to draw Jack Skellington & Zero. The animator, Katherine, gave DD her drawing after the class. I think it helped that DD was wearing a Jack shirt, with Jack ears and holding her 4ft tall Jack doll. Not too much of a fan, is she? Now we have the drawing matted and framed right next to DD's rendition.

BTW...for anyone who didn't know, there is also animation drawing classes at DisneyQuest. They have a set schedule and you can see what time they are drawing what character. The only difference is that you draw them on a monitor and you have to buy the computerized print out, but we took photos of the monitor instead and that was just as good. We did this a couple of years ago and I also thought it was great. As others said it was great to have the interactive experience and a cool (and free!) picture to take home.
I am foing down for Thanksgiving with extended family and thought this might be a fun group activity. Then we'd all have our pictures to share!
I'll have to see if everyone else agrees.
My kids likes the area outside of this with the interactive computer activities and there were some good character experiences there as well (We saw the Incredibles crew as well as the Rats). I didn't particularly love the animator/studio attraction that you do first before you enter the area. Does anyone know if you can bypass that. I remember exiting though a shop, can you enter through there as well?

We entered through the shop when we went back for the 2nd and 3rd times during our last trip. Nobody said a word.

We've done this drawing class quite a few times, and what I really love about it is to see how my kids drawings have so changed and improved over the years. I've saved them all and even framed some & hung them on the wall.

What age is appropriate for this? I have a 6 yo and a 4 yo (also a 15 month old but obviously not!)

This looks like fun and something different.
