I had some blood work done, last week on Tuesday at a new Dr office I'm thinking of going to. Well it has been almost a week since I had it done so I called the Dr office to find out the NP which is who I had seen is on vacation for a week. I wish they would have let know what the blood test screenings came back as. I know if they were bad I would have been contacted. Just wish I didn't have to wait a week before I know something

Did you mention the blood work to the person you talked to on the phone? Maybe someone else beside the nurse practictioner can read the results for you and let you know if you are ok.

I have a call into the main Dr.

Some tests could take that long. I realize most don't, but some can. Most tests can really be done overnight, but I've had a few that require special work or need to get to an out of state lab and they take awhile. The Vitamin D test is one that comes to mind. My doctor won't call until all the results are in. That one took close to 2 weeks.

someone else in that office either the MD or another NP should be looking at labs that come in while she is away, that should not prevent you from getting your results, and also you can request a copy of the lab work.

It is really hard to wait, but some test results do take a bit longer. Don't let your imagination run away with you.

I've got a horror story about waiting. I went for a breast biopsy and they told me it would take a week to come back. I waited the week (very, very hard ... although I did believe in my heart from the moment I found the lump that it was cancer) and two days and finally called them at the hospital. They told me that they couldn't tell me anything and that I had to call my doctor; that they had faxed him all the results. I called, of course, they knew nothing. (This doctor had told me that he was 90% sure the lump was nothing ... 90%) I waited until the next day and called my doctor again. Nothing. So I'm freaking and call the hospital. I got the nurse who held my hand through all of the tests. Begged, pleaded, begged. She told me my results.

Here is where it gets insane. My doctor's office (who was no longer my doctor) called me A YEAR LATER and informed me that they JUST received a fax and that I had to come into the office immediately.:mad::mad:

Sometimes I think doctor's forget that we are waiting and anxious for a reason.

The waiting game is horrible with doctors.......they should have told you about vacation before you had your appointment & testing done.
