Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

I just can't help myself! Whatever did I do before the Internet? :lmao:

No luck. :sad2:

November 15, 1966 was when Walt announced he had bought land in Florida but that doesn't fit.

Someone needs to email that question to Ask Dave over on the D23 website...

I found a couple of sad things, so maybe nothing but the MM was significant, unless there was a story about Walt wanting to go to Alaska or something.

On Nov 8, 1966 Walt had a lung removed that was full of cancer.:sad2:

Also on that day, I saw that one of the initial investors in DL died, also. I saw that in a google passage, but couldn't really get the full story on that person.

I know this is a little late - I missed some of this TR when I was heading to Vegas.

Hi Cynthia!

I've been so behind - I somehow skipped the photo session part of one day, and then read your lunch at Epcot update, but couldn't figure out who everyone was. I went back last night and got truly caught up.

I loved your photo shoot! You can't beat the price! Some of the pics turned out really great - cool that you got some individual shots of the kids. How did you get the information to book that one?

:thumbsup2 for getting the sandwich in France! It looks delish - we tried Tangerine Cafe once - that will be the last time, I think.

I haven't done well with African, Indian or Moroccan food. Apparently I'm not as adventurous as I thought - love Japanese, chinese and Mexican!!

Tutto looks delicious - have to try that one!

Sorry you were a little underwhelmed with Fantasmic! We have only seen it once and we really loved it - but we had a package with Brown Derby, so we didn't have to wait in line, and we had VIP seatiing, and it was October, so it was a little cooler. Those things probably made a big difference!

I'm glad you enjoyed Ohana! We loved it more the first time, but I loved the dessert more the 2nd time! :rotfl2: And once you have the Lapu Lapu, who cares!:hippie:

How cool that you got to see some fireworks from your balcony!

Looking forward to more - I promise I'll read - I promise I'll read - I promise I'll read!

Ugh the humidity that night sounds awful, it's crazy how long it can last for into the evening.

Ohana sounds delicious, We love the bread pudding there but now you have me wanting to try Raglan Roads.

Can't wait to hear more:goodvibes

Oh, hidden agendas sounds like nothing good is going to happen on the next day!!

I think Ohana is looking more and more appealing for my next trip, your's is another good review, I have read many of those recently. :goodvibes

Sorry for the wait for the bus... When I stayed at the Poly I hated going to AK and DHS because it seemed like I had to wait for the bus for ages every time, the worst was one morning when we were at the bus stop at 8 am and waited until 8:45 am for a bus to show up!! :scared1:

I had to make notes to remember everything I wanted to say, Cynthia. LOL!

Yeay for trying a Lapu Lapu and liking it -- that's on my someday list.

Score for Sandy getting leis for everyone! :thumbsup2

The food at Ohana's looks so good especially those noodles!

I am with Jeff! Love, love, love caramel! I would be in seventh heaven with a pitcher of the stuff. LOL!

Such a shame that Taylor wasn't able to ride TSM again. :(

Okay, I loved your wording about the heat at Fantasmic -- "bowl of dead air" and loving your family but not wanting "to stick to them." Great stuff! Well, maybe not great stuff to experience, but I sure could feel the heat and humidity right along with you while I was reading!

We have never watched Fantasmic! I want to someday, but I don't know if I want to do it on our summer trips. Yick!

That heat sounds unbearable! 2 years ago at F&W in Oct it was 100+ w/ humidity. Not fun.

Glad you enjoyed O'Hana and the lapu lapu. :thumbsup2

Sorry TSM didn't work out. I have never seen Fantasmic. I can't say your description of the theater has me wanting to try it anytime soon.

OMG I swear I was there then too....it was toward the beginning of October and wow....it was scorching!!! :headache: I would take that right now though.... Would much rather be hot than cold :thumbsup2

I can't imagine sitting through Fantasmaic in that heat with all of those people!! :scared1: No way!! I remember sitting through Lights, Motor, Heat one year when I took two of my nephews and my niece. It was August. It was hot. I told them to enjoy it and I was taping it for them on my camcorder and the only way they would see it again in that kind of heat would be on the tv or in person without me:rotfl: I was kidding. Kind of.

Sounds like your husband would be quite a fan of the new caramel shoppe in Germany. :goodvibes I know I am :rotfl2:

Tracy

I am going to advise you not to bring one silk shirt in May. It can be pretty hot then as well. It was last year. Still not as bad as August.

Well the really funny thing is I never wear silk as a general rule. Honestly, that shirt from the photo shoot I've never worn again. Maybe this summer here but it's not going in the suitcase for May! The dress is usually really light and comfy, it's a Tommy Bahama so it usually breathes well but UGH in that heat. It may or may not come, I do really like it. It was fine until F!

:rotfl:

I agree that the theatre is ridiculously stuffy. I thought it was just me because I hate to sit and wait.
Stuffy doesn't begin to describe it. Believe it or not, some of us had one "worse" heat moment in the trip.

I enjoyed your pictures. They turned out pretty good considering how hard it is to get a good shot in there.
I love the images on the water and had a lot of fun trying to capture it. Which did help distract me from the sweat dribbling down my back1

Way to go Sandy - getting those leis and all. I love how the boys used them as headbands. :rotfl: Surprised Taylor didn't try that. Seriously, just kidding!

seriously!

I can't believe you were done your entire meal in an hour. The last time I ate there I was begging them to speed up so we could get back to the MK.

I have to say - I love the broccoli and the noodles and the wings. I could make a meal of just that. Throw a few shrimp on top and I am good to go.
I remembered that and was prepared for a long meal. Those noodles, and the steak, were the BOMB! And the dessert...and the bread....LOL!

The shrimp are good but a bit of work. And I'm lazy!

We had the same experience NYE. I have since figured something out.

Walk to the TTC and there is a bus to DHS ( and AK) there. I have no idea why it took me so long to figure that out but I have figured out that from any of the monorail resorts, that may be the best way to get to those parks. It just seems like the shared busses and them being far and few between at the resorts, the best thing is to go to the TTC.

Well, I'm not sure I'd have known which direction to go to walk to the TTC but I'm seriously going to remember that next time I dine at a monorail resort. Which interestingly enough, we aren't doing in May!

I'm glad you liked Ohana. Their bread pudding is so good, I knew that the Raglan Road version couldn't be toooo much better, if at all. I think it can be a quick meal there because people aren't ordering from a menu...they just keep pumping out the same items.

It was really fast, surprisingly so. Not a bad thing at all, just surprising.

Sorry that Taylor and Evan didn't make it to TSM. That would be a bummer to miss it by just a few minutes.

Uh oh -- hidden agendas.

Such a bummer, Taylor was NOT happy about it though of course, being Taylor we saw the results in actions, not words.

Yeah. Hidden agendas....

Another exciting cliff hanger! I have to admit that I cried a little inside when you all decided against EMHs at MK. Although for TSM...maybe. We did not do Fantasmic on our last trip and aren't doing this time, either. Someday... Point is, I have absolutely no idea what I'm missing and I think I'm OK with that. :goodvibes I am glad to hear that you enjoyed Ohana, as we're headed their in about a week!! And I, too, might have to drink out of a whole pineapple. Something tells me that one will be right up my mom's alley.

It was the wrong call but...Taylor so rarely asks for anything we really did want to make it happen. And I did kind of want to see F! so I was ok with it at the time. Given that it was a spur of the moment idea I'd have been better prepared on the transportation had I thought we'd actually attempt it.

Of course when he does ask, it's 11th hour and we have to try to rush to make it happen and often it just doesn't work out.

Oh, Man! so sorry TSM didn't work out! :sad2:

I felt SO bad for those two! They booked it! it was a bit heartbreaking.

Those 'Ritas sounded wonderful and I don't even drink 'em!
Mnnn! I'm having one in May!

`Ohana turned out great... that Sandie sure has the power of persuasion!

She does, you have NO idea!
Your description of the oppressive heat makes me glad we're not going in August!

Must tune into your East meets West PTR ASAP!
Kathy

You aren't missing much on the PTR but I think it's going to start picking up. August is a bit brutal. Not always, some days were actually pretty ok, this was definitely one of the worst, heat wise.

Well, I'm not sure I'd have known which direction to go to walk to the TTC but I'm seriously going to remember that next time I dine at a monorail resort. Which interestingly enough, we aren't doing in May!

The walk from the Poly to the TTC can be a bit tricky. If you go the desk I think they can get you a property map to make it a bit easier.

I can get from the TTC to the Poly Ceremonial house now without any
"family circus" detours. That took me a couple of tries.

If you remember in my TR my route from the bus stop to the TTC was not exactly and approved route. :lmao:

I finally learned my lesson now I need to put it into practice. :goodvibes

In August once again I have plans for the Family to see Fantasmic !!! I have seen it twice and really enjoyed it , one time in Feb and it was a little chilly the next time it was rained out as I was sitting there and then the second time I saw it I made my infamous entrance:scared1::rotfl2:I plan on getting a Famtasmic package at MM for August!!!

I had actually tried to get a fantasmic package for one of our nights and it wasn't available. I'm not sure that would have helped, we weren't there all that early, maybe 20 minutes, it was just far too hot and miserable. Bring a mister Rosie!

UGH! I can just feel how hot you all are sitting there with no air!! NO THANKS! See what I mean? F! is just not worth the crowds and seating arrangement. I won't be hurrying back.
I just don't understand why they don't factor in air circulation when the build those things, it happened elsewhere as well but I'll save that story for another day. Seriously though, then they add FLAMES to the mix and...you're melting!

Such a bummer for the kids! I can see that tainting their opinion of the plan.
Taylor's opinion anyway. Though I'm not sure that's the only thing that impacted his opinion.

Oh-HOT-nas. Good one! The food is so yummy there- as are the Lapus! Mmmm mmm! Slurp!

Yes it is!

So glad you enjoyed the meal at 'Ohana. What a perfect, spot on description of the Fantasmic amphitheater. We saw the show in July 2009. Pretty much all my family remembers is how HOT it was. At 9 PM.

Exactly. at 9pm. I will not be back in the summer for sure! Not back to F!, Disney...maybe!

It seems like the heat from the fire for Fantasmic makes things 20X worse. I'm glad ya'll got to Ohana--it's still one that comes on and off our list--our daughter has a banana allergy and I don't want to attempt the different dessert.

20x worse, exactly! I can see where that would be a deterrent for Ohana's but I'm sure they have something for her and it really is a great experience for everyone.

That Lapu Lapu looked yummy! 111 days until I have one!

:thumbsup2 for drinks in a pineapple!

It really was. I mean the day had had some very hot spots, most notably at Off-Kilter but this was so much worse it was unreal. I'll go back and see it again, I do love the image on the water but it'd have to be a winter showing for sure.

I found a couple of sad things, so maybe nothing but the MM was significant, unless there was a story about Walt wanting to go to Alaska or something.

Wow! I wonder if those have any relation at all? Good info Tammie!

Hi Cynthia!

I loved your photo shoot! You can't beat the price! Some of the pics turned out really great - cool that you got some individual shots of the kids. How did you get the information to book that one?

Why on the DIS of course! I have the number to call to book if you want, or you can walk up and schedule while you are there. We were really happy with the pictures, I'm very glad we did it!

Tutto is :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I'm looking forward to trying ViaNapoli.

Sorry you were a little underwhelmed with Fantasmic! We have only seen it once and we really loved it - but we had a package with Brown Derby, so we didn't have to wait in line, and we had VIP seatiing, and it was October, so it was a little cooler. Those things probably made a big difference!

We really liked F! back in 2004, which was a November trip. Huge difference. We didn't really have to wait in a line per se, it was just so HOT! I still love the images projected onto the water.

I know the feeling! Lapu Lapu's make everything better....

The fireworks were a very nice surprise

Ugh the humidity that night sounds awful, it's crazy how long it can last for into the evening.

Ohana sounds delicious, We love the bread pudding there but now you have me wanting to try Raglan Roads.

Can't wait to hear more:goodvibes

It just seemed like that night, it never ever cooled down! Raglan is delicious, I am so happy we are going in May!!!

Oh, hidden agendas sounds like nothing good is going to happen on the next day!!

Ah yes, the hidden agendas....

I think Ohana is looking more and more appealing for my next trip, your's is another good review, I have read many of those recently. :goodvibes

Ohana is really fun! I'm so glad we made it there this time. The wait for the bus, not so much, but...oh well!

I had to make notes to remember everything I wanted to say, Cynthia. LOL!

Yeay for trying a Lapu Lapu and liking it -- that's on my someday list.
I can't believe you haven't had one yet! that's just wrong Jackie!

Score for Sandy getting leis for everyone! :thumbsup2
She cracks me up at times

The food at Ohana's looks so good especially those noodles!

I am with Jeff! Love, love, love caramel! I would be in seventh heaven with a pitcher of the stuff. LOL!
The noodles are YUMMY! we had a second, or third bowl for sure.

Such a shame that Taylor wasn't able to ride TSM again. :(
it was such a shame he didn't get over it right away either...

Okay, I loved your wording about the heat at Fantasmic -- "bowl of dead air" and loving your family but not wanting "to stick to them." Great stuff! Well, maybe not great stuff to experience, but I sure could feel the heat and humidity right along with you while I was reading!

LOL! UGH is what it was.

We have never watched Fantasmic! I want to someday, but I don't know if I want to do it on our summer trips. Yick!

Honestly, I wouldn't in the summer unless you ended up with a cooler night for some reason. It was really miserable. I still love all the images projected onto the water, that is just so cool, but I loved it a LOT more in 04 when it was November and pleasantly cool out!

OMG I swear I was there then too....it was toward the beginning of October and wow....it was scorching!!! :headache: I would take that right now though.... Would much rather be hot than cold :thumbsup2

I am craving the sun like nobodies business right now. Jeff had a whole slide of me over the years in swimsuits called sun godless for the birthday slide show and it's true, I worship it!

But yeah, I'll skip F! unless I'm there in the winter some year.

Kind of.

I've heard LMA can be brutally hot. As it was pouring when we were there, I didn't experience that, but did have something similar at Universal later in the trip in a similar kind of theater. Whey they don't factor in air circulation is beyond me!

Sounds like your husband would be quite a fan of the new caramel shoppe in Germany. :goodvibes I know I am :rotfl2:

Tracy
Oh yes, I'll be bringing him some home. I actually brought him some from my grip to Germany, it was different than what he was used to but he liked it.
I finally mastered the handmade caramel for valentines day last year (after years of attempts) but haven't made any since. He did get some yesterday (not made by me though) but will try to make him a batch for his birthday in 2 weeks.

:goodvibes

OMG, I can just see me trying to lead 8 people through that, we'd have been totally lost with my luck that night. Probably best we just waited it out. But I am going to remember that for next time!

MMMM that pineapple looks yummmy. I will have to try in May!

What a bummer that they boys missed TSM. Hmm teenage boy disappointed? bet that was fun:rolleyes:

Glad 'Ohana was a hit!! Great group shot at the table too. Sorry to hear TSM didn't work out, even with all the extra time you had after dinner. Drives me crazy when Disney transportation doesn't flow when you have somewhere you want to be NOW! :headache:

Sounds like the plans go completely out the window the next day!

I'm glad you guys liked 'Ohana. I was a little worried after your last update. I can't believe you were out of there in an hour though. That seems a little rushed to me.... especially with all that food!

I felt bad the boys didn't make it to TSM.

I can relate to the heat. We were in Florida in October 09 in record heat. It was 90-97 every day with humidity. It was HOT!

Thanks for the F! pics. I've never seen it... yet. ;)

wow only 1 hour to eat, i think that is how long i ate the pot stickers for.

sorry the night was so hot, did the mist from the water curtains sray on you at all to cool you off?

MMMM that pineapple looks yummmy. I will have to try in May!

What a bummer that they boys missed TSM. Hmm teenage boy disappointed? bet that was fun:rolleyes:

it is yummy!

yep, he was pretty bitter...as if it was the only cool thing he really wanted to do again.

Yeah, you'd have thought with almost an hour, we could have made it huh. Oh well. Sometimes things don't flow, sometimes you have to go with the flow and other times well...the flow knocks you over on your you know what.

It became a very different trip once Sandie and Paul got there, I'll say that.

I'm glad you guys liked 'Ohana. I was a little worried after your last update. I can't believe you were out of there in an hour though. That seems a little rushed to me.... especially with all that food!
It actually didn't feel rushed, the most rushing all night was us trying to make it to TSM.

I felt bad the boys didn't make it to TSM.

I can relate to the heat. We were in Florida in October 09 in record heat. It was 90-97 every day with humidity. It was HOT!

Thanks for the F! pics. I've never seen it... yet. ;)

Taylor was especially bummed. That's about the weather we had. Yuck. F! is cool, there's a lot of really wonderful things about it but I'd enjoy it far more on a cooler night. It seemed perfect in Nov, back in 04.

It's a crying shame for sure!

Seriously, you must fix that. And take a picture. I think it would make a great profile pic on FB. :rotfl:

wow only 1 hour to eat, i think that is how long i ate the pot stickers for.

:rotfl:

sorry the night was so hot, did the mist from the water curtains sray on you at all to cool you off?

Sadly no, we weren't close enough for that, all we could feel was the heat from the flames.

Glad you enjoyed your meal at 'Ohana. They do get you in and out rather quickly there.

Sorry Taylor didn't make TSM. I didn't ride it on my trip, but wish I could have. And one day I will see Fantasmic!

Why, yes, yes, it would!!! ::yes::
:)

Glad you enjoyed your meal at 'Ohana. They do get you in and out rather quickly there.

Sorry Taylor didn't make TSM. I didn't ride it on my trip, but wish I could have. And one day I will see Fantasmic!

Jan would be perfect to see Fantasmic! I am in awe of all that you did do, given how short your trip was.
