Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

I am sooooo glad you enjoyed Sanaa!! And I agree that it is a great first night meal!! We were never disappointed when we went, either! AND yes, the Naan is fab, and the dishes good... I HOPE you enjoyed that Chai creme!!!! YUMMM.

Loved it loved it loved it! And I was relieved it lived up to my expectations, which were pretty darn high after all the rave reviews.

IWell despite the crappy cab driver, the night seemed like a success.

Can't wait for the water park!!! ;)

OH and I totally get the first day/night lapse in photography!! I had the same issue this trip as well!

It was a great night! Nice to hear someone else forgets to take photos on day 1, I was terrible about it! I thought of you last week when I was perusing Athleta...new winter version of the senorita dress. :rotfl:

OH NO!!! That has been changed??!! NO cinnamon bread with the mussels in the green sauce??!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

These mussels were ONE of the reasons why I made an ADR for Jiko in December!!! I hope they come back! Mussels with curry? BLECK.

I can do them with curry (yum actually!) but the idea of lamb in it is ICK to me.

What a horrible cab driver. However, your meal at Saana looks very interesting and glad you enjoyed it.

It was absolutely yummy! Great service, gorgeous room. IF we weren't so dead we'd have enjoyed it even more. Definitely up there in my all time favorites.

WOW! What a day - I would never have been able to survive that many hours without sleep and food!!! Good for you going to Sanaa and enjoying what sure looked like a yummy meal!! My family would go for the boring chicken on the kids meal or something, but I would love it!
What a PITA cabbie!! He wouldn't have gotten a tip out of me.

I hope you all got a good night's sleep!

I am VERY blessed with 2 adventuresome eaters and 2 that can try to find something that works for them. We've always exposed them to this kind of food so it really wasn't a stretch but I'm very grateful they are the way they are, it sure makes ADR's more fun for me!

He was a pita! It's always interesting heading back to the room on that first night, wondering how you'll sleep...

:thumbsup2 I was so hoping for an update. Gabby is at a friend's, the other two are outside reaking havoc with the neighborhood kids playing night games, and I am sitting here with my big old mug of water (I am back on the health kick wagon, those 2 lb turned into 3 and I am not shooting for 5). Love me some DIS on a mellow Friday night.
I hear you my friend. I should have had water with my pizza but the beer tasted better tonight. I figure it's my reward for weighted lunges and squats yesterday. Oh wait, the new workout pants and top that just arrived were my reward. Oh well, I deserve more than one reward, right? NOT.

Yes. I can justify beer too

:rotfl:

And pizza

It had veggies on it

And tomorrow I'll reward myself for zumba with margaritas.

:rotfl:

kind of self defeating huh.

Back to the topic at hand. Sanna looks goo-ood! My sweet Chloe just learned to make naan and it has officially taken over my home for carb of choice.

It was SOOOO good! That's a perfect carb of choice. I've never made it myself and we are trying to go all brown around here (brown rice, whole wheat pasta), naan would be a yummy item in the rotation. Not that it's very healthy but....

Cynthia, I'm so glad that you enjoyed Sanaa!

LOVED it! How could you not actually?

Wow, I can't believe that you had an eerily similar delay in seating as we did. (Ours was a dinner seating also.) Judy's still holding a grudge so we didn't eat there this year, but I can't wait to go back -- the food was so good!

I was having Glennbo deja vu with that wait. For some reason I thought yours was a lunch, not sure why. They were busy though, I'll give them that, and once served, our server rocked. We could have gone into the bar which looked really cool, but more than one drink and Jeff and I might have passed out.

When we were there James was disappointed that there weren't any Indian-types of dishes on the children's menu so they gave him a child's portion (supposedly) of the short ribs. It was huge!

I remember that now! I should have pushed him, I'm sure we could have gotten him a chicken curry, which he adores.

That green curry shrimp was pretty darn tasty too!

Wow. You lasted until MIDNIGHT. I would have been so cranky and crabby - and probably barking, much like your cab driver at that point!

I almost barked back but he wasn't worth the energy

:rotfl:

11 was more what we'd had in mind and we'd have been in decent shape if that had been the case. That last hour was brutal between waiting for the desserts and check, the cab, then the ride and the long walk down the hall to the room.

We all passed out. I am not sure I even made people brush their teeth!

I've heard all good reviews of Saana - namely, those "gravy" choices. They look delish. And I'm with you on the naan. Yum. I could make a meal of just naan! Joe isn't big on Indian, I think it would take a lot of convincing, or a "surprise!" ;) to get him there....:sad2:

I was kind of surprised Tay went for the gravy and not the Tandoori Chicken but he loved what he got which made us really happy! It is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely a top for me, even with the wait. Where in the top I'm not sure but a perfect first night.

What an amazing start to your trip. I totally understand wanting a full meal when you're just that tired and hungry. And, hey, EE isn't going anywhere.

Wow. I'm :headache: over your cab story. We took a few cabs on our most recent trip and we had nothing but good experiences. What a bummer you had to deal with that on your first night!

The Naan bread looks amazing!! :cloud9:

:thumbsup2 Squats: good. Lunges: good. Beer: deserved! I walked yesterday and am headed out to do it again right now. I don't enjoy the little tube of flub around my middle. At all.

At least with DH gone another week there isn't amazing curries etc...staring at me from the fridge. He is the best cook ever. It's amazing I don't weight 200 lb. Chloe isn't far behind in the chef department but generally cooks with DH.

Hope you have a great weekend! :goodvibes

Sanaa hasn't been high on my list but you have me rethinking it. After 37 hours I would have had food on the brain too!

Sorry you had such a jerk for a cabbie. :headache:

Can't wait to hear about the waterparks!

Oh no! Now I'm out one million imaginary Disney dollars! :rotfl:

Luckily I'm rolling in it, so I guess one million less won't make much difference. I have to warn you, though, it's not good for much beyond DIS betting. Maybe you can split it up and use it for prizes for Tanya, Rosie, & Dan?

Sounds like you made the right choice, foodwise. The yeti wasn't going anywhere, after all. And Sanaa looks gorgeous (both the food and the decor).

The food at Sanaa looks delish!

There are taxi drivers like that in NYC. I hate when they don't want to take a CC, even though they HAVE to. But it is faster than the bus.
We rented a car last month and were so happy we did. The thought of buses after a long day was not appealing. And after your taxi story, we're renting again next summer.

Can't wait to read about your water park day.

I won I won!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

The Bread at Sanaa looks awesome !!I also like the sound of the salads that you pick 3 of !!! I am NOT a curry person even though I grew up with it :confused3 But I soooo want to try that bread !!!!!!:cloud9:

He - that works for me!! I'll take imaginary Disney dollars - I'm not winning much on Glenn's TR in the Judy sightings - maybe I'll do better here in the "will they or won't they" game. :thumbsup2

Good call on skipping EE and heading straight to dinner. I'm shocked you all made it that far as it is! I bet you all slept very soundly that night! :rotfl:

Sounds like you made a good decision to skip EE and head over to Sanaa!! I'm a huge fan of that restaurant I love it LOL!! I too cannot say No to Naan....the bread is light and tasty and the dips...the dips are amazing!!!!

Sorry you had to deal with a rude cab driver, you'd think they would learn by now that if you treat people nicely you'll get a bigger tip you were 6 people could have been a nice end to his evening, instead he was rude, shame on him!

I would have guessed that you skipped EE. Knowing how tired and hungry you all were. Sanaa looks yummy-we are eating there in Dec. Great update.

I'm so glad you enjoyed Sanaa!!!:goodvibes Everything looked so yummy!! Good call on skipping EE....especially since you knew you would be back later in the week.:thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about your cab driver....and on your first night and everything!!:sad2:

Well I guess it could have been worse. He could have gotten lost or taken the long route, all kinds of things. I'd love some of that bread right now!!!!!!!!

:thumbsup2 Squats: good. Lunges: good. Beer: deserved! I walked yesterday and am headed out to do it again right now. I don't enjoy the little tube of flub around my middle. At all.

Me either. Mine that is. Of course beer doesn't help with that issue. :rotfl:

Oh YUM! Lucky lucky lady. It has been a good weekend, a little bit of this, and that, some social stuff, some fun stuff and a few things done around the house. We're off to go have dinner with my family tonight and celebrate my dad receiving an award at church last week. It should be fun!

Sanaa hasn't been high on my list but you have me rethinking it. After 37 hours I would have had food on the brain too!

It was definitely a favorite meal for me. Probably not number 1 but up there. I would eat there again in a heartbeat.

Sorry you had such a jerk for a cabbie. :headache:

He was a poop head.

That sounds like a good plan! :rotfl:

It really was gorgeous and the great service and yummy food really made up for the wait.

Yeah, I felt like I was back in Chicago. I've dealt with plenty of jerks like him before but UGH. There were a few times a car would have been handy but for the most part, it was fine.

I won I won!!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

You're rich Rosie!

The bread is outstanding! Plenty of other things that aren't curry to choose from. I was kind of surprised Taylor got what he did, I thought for sure he'd get the Tandoori chicken.

:rotfl: At least you're playing the Judy game....I'm abstaining as I got in too late and have completely lost track.

Good call on skipping EE and heading straight to dinner. I'm shocked you all made it that far as it is! I bet you all slept very soundly that night! :rotfl:

It was a very long day, no doubt! I think it was the right call.

Sounds like you made a good decision to skip EE and head over to Sanaa!! I'm a huge fan of that restaurant I love it LOL!! I too cannot say No to Naan....the bread is light and tasty and the dips...the dips are amazing!!!!

I was shocked Jeff went ahead on the ordering seconds. He almost never springs for something not on the dining plan (except drinks) but it was THAT good!

Sorry you had to deal with a rude cab driver, you'd think they would learn by now that if you treat people nicely you'll get a bigger tip you were 6 people could have been a nice end to his evening, instead he was rude, shame on him!

You would think huh? :confused3

I'm so glad you enjoyed Sanaa!!!:goodvibes Everything looked so yummy!! Good call on skipping EE....especially since you knew you would be back later in the week.:thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about your cab driver....and on your first night and everything!!:sad2:

It was SOOOOOOO yummy! We figured we'd have plenty of time to face the Yeti.

Sanaa looks...interesting. I've never had Indian food so I'm a little leary of it.

I'm impressed that you didn't knock the cab driver out when he flipped out on you....:rotfl2:

Hey Cynthia! I'm back from the trip and trying to get all caught up. Man, the food at Sanaa sounded amazing! I wish we could have included some more interesting choices on this trip, but since my parents are not that adventurous, it just wouldn't have worked out. Next time.

Funny about your grouchy cab driver. My parents had a similar experience with their cab rides (made me glad we'd arranged a car). I guess the Mears people just don't have the Disney touch.

I'm amazed at your stamina that first day - up til midnight after taking the red-eye! I hope you make it to the waterpark by noon!

Wait a minute aren't you the one who usually has the Cab Horrror tales ??:rotfl2::rotfl2:
