Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

I thought for sure you would have conquered the Yeti and still had time :confused3 I guess now in retrospect after waiting so long to be seated you would have!!! But sometimes you just have to call it a day....especially with temper tummy starting to occur in some of the crew ;)

I think I would like the bread (love naan and hummus) and maybe the fish at Sanaa....Oh yes and the beer.....I love spicy food but the curry just doesn't do it for me....They are starting to use a lot more curry flavor at Jiko too....there was a starter there that I loved...mussels with a garlic dill cream sauce and cinnamon baguette....now its mussels with lamb and curry broth. :headache:

So glad you went and took a peek at the bathrooms!!! Aren't they beautiful?!! :rotfl: I went down there once to just take a look!!!

I'm so glad that the cab experience didn't ruin your night. It is funny to assume that the taxi drivers should have the same level of service as Disney employees because they are on property. It's like a harsh slap back to reality.

The food look amazing. I'm glad you took pictures, because it is so hard to visualize what something looks like from the description on the menu. I want to see a picture of the bathroom now!

I can't believe all that you accomplished in your first day. Your kids are a bumch of troopers!!

I guess missing EE was probably the smart thing to do and I am glad that you all enjoyed your meal at Sanaa. I loved that place. So super yummy!

ugghhhhh to the nasty cab driver. Jen and I took a cab at 7am and he was nice, although for some reason my credit card would not run through his machine. That still makes me nervous cause it works everywhere else. :confused3

Ah, I was wrong! Good thing you left when you did, though. Transportation from AK always seems to take a long time. We are pretty much done with the buses, I think. It was worth the rental cost of a car to save the bus time and stress for us. Of course renting a van is way more, so we'll see when all 10 of us go! Sorry your cabbie was grouchy. Good call - sleeping in and going to the water park!:thumbsup2

I'm glad you enjoyed dinner, but man! What an awful cab driver!

Makes me so happy I can drive to Disney.

OK, good call on ding-dong-ditching the Yeti in exchange for a satisfying meal. Sounds like you had a great one! And although you had a real jerk for a cabbie, that was also a smart move. I used taxis twice on our last trip- Beach Club to Typhoon Lagoon with my son Ben, and from Poly to Beach Club after Nightastic, just me. Probably not the smartest of ideas, but both cab trips were fine.

Sanaa looks and sounds amazing!!! Thanks for sharing your meal with us!

I bet you make it to a waterpark, but now you have me worried about the afternoon weather!

Your meal at Sanaa looks amazing!

We visited AKL on our last trip and tried boma, which we were very unimpressed with. Maybe we'll have to try Sanaa next time instead.

That's awful about the experience with the cab, not what you want to deal with at disney of all places.

Hopefully nothing like that happened the rest of your vacation:goodvibes

Don't want to say too much here, but am so pleased that you enjoyed Sanaa!! Beautiful pix, and even beeee-u-ti-fuller food! Mmmm!

I'm pretty sure your cabbie was a stowaway in our luggage- no stamp for that one!

Okay, once you put it in the perspective of having been up for 37 hours and having not had much to eat since 9am, I can totally understand why Sanaa won out. Charles would have exercised his veto power, too, without a doubt.

I am surprised you all made it through dinner as late as it was without falling asleep. The food looks amazing!!! I would definitely like to eat there one day!

What a beast of a cab driver! I would have been tempted to not tip, too, since tipping is supposed to be a thank you for good service. That was obviously lacking in that experience!

Curious to see how late you sleep the next morning.

I am sooooo glad you enjoyed Sanaa!! And I agree that it is a great first night meal!! We were never disappointed when we went, either! AND yes, the Naan is fab, and the dishes good... I HOPE you enjoyed that Chai creme!!!! YUMMM.

Well despite the crappy cab driver, the night seemed like a success.

Can't wait for the water park!!! ;)

OH and I totally get the first day/night lapse in photography!! I had the same issue this trip as well!

there was a starter there that I loved...mussels with a garlic dill cream sauce and cinnamon baguette....now its mussels with lamb and curry broth. :headache:

Tracy

OH NO!!! That has been changed??!! NO cinnamon bread with the mussels in the green sauce??!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

These mussels were ONE of the reasons why I made an ADR for Jiko in December!!! I hope they come back! Mussels with curry? BLECK.

What a horrible cab driver. However, your meal at Saana looks very interesting and glad you enjoyed it.

Well, with you getting there after 9 and waiting so long I'm glad you didn't risk it!
Me too. I mean, given that we weren't even seated until 9:30 it might of been fine but oh, can you imagine getting there at 9:30, which if everything had taken as long as it did without EE it would have been, and being turned away? :scared1: Jeff would have blown a gasket.

I'm glad that the food was so good and the kids were so excited about a water park! It must have made the late dinner much more enjoyable!

The food was outstanding! The late dinner was fine...once we were seated and before we were done and waiting for the bill. It never takes longer for a bill than when your kids are beyond pooped and you are waiting for the bill, twiddling your thumbs. We kept thinking it was the boxing of desserts that slowed it down, we'd have skipped it to get home earlier.

Ugh for the awful cabby! That is no fun!!! Jerk! I've taken a cab twice at WDW! Once going from DTD to Epcot and once from Kidani to GF! Both times were good experiences! I wouldn't hesitate to take one again!

We had other experiences...you'll have to wait and see how those were.

I thought for sure you would have conquered the Yeti and still had time :confused3 I guess now in retrospect after waiting so long to be seated you would have!!! But sometimes you just have to call it a day....especially with temper tummy starting to occur in some of the crew ;)

Temper tummy. That is EXACTLY what Jeff had. :rotfl:

I think I would like the bread (love naan and hummus) and maybe the fish at Sanaa....Oh yes and the beer.....I love spicy food but the curry just doesn't do it for me....They are starting to use a lot more curry flavor at Jiko too....there was a starter there that I loved...mussels with a garlic dill cream sauce and cinnamon baguette....now its mussels with lamb and curry broth. :headache:

They had other yummy options, we are just huge curry fans. Ok, love curry, and I'd love curry and mussels (LOVE mussels) but LAMB?

BLEH

So glad you went and took a peek at the bathrooms!!! Aren't they beautiful?!! :rotfl: I went down there once to just take a look!!!
Tracy

SOOO pretty!

I'm so glad that the cab experience didn't ruin your night. It is funny to assume that the taxi drivers should have the same level of service as Disney employees because they are on property. It's like a harsh slap back to reality.

Pretty much! It's all owned by Mears so you'd expect decent service there. I should have complained to them but at that point I wanted out (and that cabbie did NOTHING to help open those van doors) and into bed.

The food look amazing. I'm glad you took pictures, because it is so hard to visualize what something looks like from the description on the menu. I want to see a picture of the bathroom now!

I can't believe all that you accomplished in your first day. Your kids are a bumch of troopers!!

Well, I stole the pics, I didn't take any myself (except for the beer and that was actually from a different night lol, clearly I liked it as I got it again later in the trip). But it was seriously yummy. If I go again I will for SURE take a pic of the bathroom!

I guess missing EE was probably the smart thing to do and I am glad that you all enjoyed your meal at Sanaa. I loved that place. So super yummy!

SO yummy, and gorgeous, and great service! The wait really kind of sucked given how tired we were but really, it was worth it. One of my favorite places of the trip. I haven't actually ranked my meals but I'd put it in the top tier for sure.

ugghhhhh to the nasty cab driver. Jen and I took a cab at 7am and he was nice, although for some reason my credit card would not run through his machine. That still makes me nervous cause it works everywhere else. :confused3

UGH, I have had the same issues with cabs before and so I always worry about it and check before I even get in. Which is why I asked the valet first. That worked out real well.

What I later learned is that he could have, all the cabs (which are ALL Mears, it's an exclusive), can, he just didn't want to. Probably skimming.

Which is horrible to say.

Ah, I was wrong! Good thing you left when you did, though. Transportation from AK always seems to take a long time. We are pretty much done with the buses, I think. AK does take forever. Though it's not, as I learned on this trip, the only place that seems to.

I'm still ambivalent about a car, overall, depending on where you stay. I'll share thoughts on it later.

It's 5:00 Somewhere! (The Jimmy Buffett version)

ALWAYS! :thumbsup2

WOW! What a day - I would never have been able to survive that many hours without sleep and food!!! Good for you going to Sanaa and enjoying what sure looked like a yummy meal!! My family would go for the boring chicken on the kids meal or something, but I would love it!
What a PITA cabbie!! He wouldn't have gotten a tip out of me.

I hope you all got a good night's sleep!

:thumbsup2 I was so hoping for an update. Gabby is at a friend's, the other two are outside reaking havoc with the neighborhood kids playing night games, and I am sitting here with my big old mug of water (I am back on the health kick wagon, those 2 lb turned into 3 and I am not shooting for 5). Love me some DIS on a mellow Friday night.

Back to the topic at hand. Sanna looks goo-ood! My sweet Chloe just learned to make naan and it has officially taken over my home for carb of choice.

Cynthia, I'm so glad that you enjoyed Sanaa!

Wow, I can't believe that you had an eerily similar delay in seating as we did. (Ours was a dinner seating also.) Judy's still holding a grudge so we didn't eat there this year, but I can't wait to go back -- the food was so good!

When we were there James was disappointed that there weren't any Indian-types of dishes on the children's menu so they gave him a child's portion (supposedly) of the short ribs. It was huge!

Wow. You lasted until MIDNIGHT. I would have been so cranky and crabby - and probably barking, much like your cab driver at that point!

I've heard all good reviews of Saana - namely, those "gravy" choices. They look delish. And I'm with you on the naan. Yum. I could make a meal of just naan! Joe isn't big on Indian, I think it would take a lot of convincing, or a "surprise!" ;) to get him there....:sad2:

Your meal at Sanaa looks amazing!

We visited AKL on our last trip and tried boma, which we were very unimpressed with. Maybe we'll have to try Sanaa next time instead.

There were things I liked about Boma and things I didn't, in general though I'm just not a huge buffet person so that was probably a bigger factor than anything else. I loved Sanaa. Really, the only negative was that initial wait and just what a pita it is to get to if you aren't staying at Kidani. If I were...I'd eat there more than once I bet!

That's awful about the experience with the cab, not what you want to deal with at disney of all places.

Hopefully nothing like that happened the rest of your vacation:goodvibes

Well I've ridden in enough cabs to just shake my head, be annoyed and not tip him. It did give me some deja vu to a few Chicago cab rides though!

Don't want to say too much here, but am so pleased that you enjoyed Sanaa!! Beautiful pix, and even beeee-u-ti-fuller food! Mmmm!

Serious yum! I'd go there again in a heartbeat

I'm pretty sure your cabbie was a stowaway in our luggage- no stamp for that one!
He was a jerk. No use pretending otherwise. Part of the reason I avoid cabs at times.

Okay, once you put it in the perspective of having been up for 37 hours and having not had much to eat since 9am, I can totally understand why Sanaa won out. Charles would have exercised his veto power, too, without a doubt.

It was pretty funny, that stomach took over in a big way, all of a sudden!

I am surprised you all made it through dinner as late as it was without falling asleep. The food looks amazing!!! I would definitely like to eat there one day!

Well the E's were a bit of a mess while we were waiting for our check. But before that, while they were eating, they were great. We were all hungry! And it was oustanding.

What a beast of a cab driver! I would have been tempted to not tip, too, since tipping is supposed to be a thank you for good service. That was obviously lacking in that experience!

Curious to see how late you sleep the next morning.

I was tempted not to tip and truly, had I not needed change back, I might not have.

Yes, what time DID we wake up?
