Dr Doom launch similar to Hulk?

Does the launch up on Dr. Doom's Fear Fall feel similar to the Hulk launch? More/less intense? I've heard that your face feels weighed down as you go up?

I'm trying to work up the nerve to go on it and have read the the drops aren't really bad, but that the launch up is the more exciting part. So...what's it like?

I'll be honest - I was one of those people who could go on coasters all day long. upside down, loops, fast, drops loved it all.

However - I never liked being dropped straight down. I would steer clear of any and all free fall rides (doom, tower or terror). One day I was in the park and was watching doom and noticed that I didn't hear any girls screaming.

So I watched it longer and it looked like all it was doing was bouncing up and down. I got up the nerve and went on to it.

#1) the take off is similar to the hulk. The hulk pushes you back into your seat, doom pushes you down into your seat, and the doom take off is a bit longer maybe a second or two.

#2) There is only one "drop" or weightless feeling on doom, and that is right after you get to the top and start to go down, but that is for a split second... within a second you are going back up again and then you never again feel your stomach coming up - it is a quite enjoyable ride. you get a fantastic view of the park, the breeze is nice... and we spend time pointing out the landmarks.

#3) the most intense part of the ride is the anticipation as to when you will be shot up.. you are up and dropped in about 5-6 seconds. then you enjoy the rest of the ride.

hope that helps

Dr. Doom is just sheer fun! It isn't intense and gives you a great weightless feeling at the top.

I was terrified of Dr Doom before going on my first trip in August. I was determined to do it once so I could say I'd done it n then never go on it again. I ended up going on it twice in a row! Lol

I loved it, it was nothing like I was expecting.

In my opinion it doesn't feel as intense as Hulk and as others have said there's a nice breeze and brilliant view of the park :)

Do it and enjoy! :)

Maybe it's just me, but I can't take the launch and subsequent weightlessness at the top of Dr. Doom. It's the only ride I sit out on. I LOVE Hulk, Sheikra, Tower of Terror, Rock N' Roller Coaster, Mummy, etc. The feeling of being suddenly catapulted to me feels much different than the launch of the coasters or any of the drops, and I always feel like I'm going to fly out of the seat/launch into space forever, even though I know I won't... Although after reading these comments maybe I should give it another try.

Interesting, thanks everyone.

I hate drops. Jurassic Park is really pushing it for me, and I will probably never go on Tower of Terror. I love the Mummy, the Hulk, the Dragon Challenge coasters, and was fine on RRR. I brushed off Dr. Doom last time because I assumed it was just like ToT, but after looking into it discovered that the drops down aren't really similar at all. I told my SO that I would go on ToT or Dr. Doom this next trip and I think Dr. Doom is going to be the pick.

I will not ride Jurassic Park, Dudley Do-Right, or Splash Mountain anymore -- I just don't like flume rides. But I love Dr. Doom because its shooting you up instead of down! I like ToT also; Doom is just the opposite feeling. A nice relaxing ride back down with a nice view! To me it felt nothing like Hulk, which I rode for the first time this year.

I love coasters, and Hulk is a great one. However, I HATE Doom! I agree with the pp that I feel like I am flying out of the seat during the initial launch/drop, and then the rest of the ride is basically boring to me. On the plus side, the boring part brings my heart rate back in a normal range from the beginning, but I did this once, and will likely not do again any time soon. I am however planning on trying ToT this year!

I finally when on it over thw weekend and it ws great. I can not wait to do it again in December.

I have no intention of riding Hulk again -- too rough. But Dr. Doom -- yes, good scary fun! Dragged DD on it and she loved it too. Just try it once!

This is interesting. I haven't gone on Doom because I don't like freefall. I DO like TOT, because you're not falling, but being *pulled*. If, worst case scenario, the power went out, you'd stop, because the power goes to *pulling* you down. Sure you're going faster than just falling, but there's more control over it.

But all this talk about a nice view and breeze is making me rethink Doom.

The best thing to do on Doom is, don't let the harness come all the way down so you have some space. Then on launch don't hold on at all. Just keep your arms and legs straight out. It's an awesome feeling when you reach the top. You launch right out of the seat, lol. I can ride Doom over and over just for that effect.
