can anyone tell me what kinds of things are sold at the scrapbooking store? How do the prices compare to places here at home? Do they sell stuff I cant find else where? Thanks

Just got back from the World and the Downtown Disney store didn't have more than a few items. The items they carry can be found all over the parks and are exclusive to the parks. It is about $15 for one kit that makes 6-8 pages. I have found the LSS have more options.

Technically it is stuff you can only find at Disney, the problem is it stinks! Lots of page kits that are pretty expensive and not great quality, a small selection of stickers, a few types of albums, character punches, mickey head eyelets, a few odds and ends, definitely nothing to write home about. When you walk into the store it will not look like a scrapbooking store - they have more non-scrap related items than scrap-related items!

I have found that mousememories.com carries the best Disney scrapbooking materials around. I think Disney is missing a huge potential windfall by not expanding their on site scrapbook stock.

I just back on 12/11. I concur with the other posters. The only things of interest were: a book of 40 different printed sheets for $15.00 -- small world, map pages, and frontierland pages I remember. If you are interested let me know and I'll get it out and check it out more closely. 1 also found some 3 dimensional stickers that I believe are WDW exclusive. I set of the fab five and 1 set of princesses. I bought the princesses it was $4.00 i think, I can't remember if I bought the fab 5. Again, let me know if you would like me to post when I unpack it. These were available at all parks and resorts. You don't need to go to DTD. I don't like their page kits at all, but they are the type that beginners go for I think. I saw scissors, punches, albums (I have bought them before and I don't like the quality.) Really, EK success & Sandylion have much better stuff. Also Designs by Reminisce recently released a new line of magic papers that were clearly designed for disney scrapbooking. I like them a lot. You can google the name to find their website. I also agree that mousememories has the best selection and their prices are decent. Hope this helps.

also try scrapbookclearance.com They carry discontinued disney papers and embellishments at great prices.

I couldn't agree more. The fact that they even have a store, but it's not stocked with quality products is surprising to me. They are definitely missing a huge opportunity. When I'm on vacation, I tend to buy more stuff than when I'm home, so I was really bummed not to find much when I was at Disney last March . The only thing I bought was a sticker sheet full of Character's autographs.

What I *did* buy and use was a booklet full of Post cards that came in handy when doing character pages. :wizard:

I am also in agreement. I was soooo excited about that store and then it left me with an overwhelming feeling of "meh."

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one let down by the scraping supplies. I was so excited to get in there and see all about it. The DH even got an ice cream and a bench and was prepared to settle in to wait. I was back before he even got down to the cone. I didn't buy one thing! Neither of us could believe it! He was prepared to have to take out a home equity line on the house for my new scrap stuff, but instead he just had to buy me my own ice cream to help me through the disappointment. I can't believe they can't find a buyer at WDW that is also a scrapper. I mean really, how many people work there?

I think one reason they dont have much variety is Licensing fees. They sell those off to companies and then those companies produce different items. BUT I have only noticed DISNEY company items there at the store. They might have to stock items from Jolee or Sanlion etc. to increase their variety. I think they are just very hesitant to do that. Plus that would be like PAYING someone else to produce YOUR product.
I would like to see Disney produce a wider variety of their own items. But they may be limited by those contracts with the licensing companies.

I asked about why they didn't carry individual pages, embellishments, etc. and I was told by a CM that it would be a shoplifting nightmare. I hadn't thought of that before.

Here is a link to their Magic Memories line:

I like their paper and have ordered from their site before. There was a slight delay with my order so they added a couple of stickers and embellishments, which I thought was really nice of them. Plus what they added was so cute. :)

I don't understand why they sell other Jolee items (Mexico, Canada, plane trip etc.) at the DD scrapbooking store (I saw this on Dec 4th 2006) and not sell the GOOD DIsney items.
I own my own online store and sell DIsney scrapbook items. believe it or not I sell more Disney items than what they sell LOL

when I was at WDW I had not yet started scrapping. I wanted to get into it but the stuff I saw seemed expensive and I did not know where to start (your would not believe what i have spent since :guilty: ) - I too bought the postcard booklets!

I've now finished my WDW/US album, using a CM 12 x 12 and their perfect fit papers (Mickey and Pooh kits) (plus other stuff for the US pages). I would have liked a Mickey punch - I did get the CM one but I haven't used it that much - but I managed without.

There are kits and kits if they are worried about shoplifting - rather than the page kits they could have theme kits with papers, stickers and embellishments for areas in the parks or characters. Still, in DLP they have NOTHING at all.

Hopefully all the parks will switch on by the next time I'm at one (whenever that will be)

Well Im home from my first trip. I was there 12-14 til 12-22. We went to downtown disney one day. I went to the scrapbook store there. I actually left with NOTHING!!! Ugh! I was prepared for that though. I was not about to pay $32 for an album. I use 12x12 3ring. Im just going to get one here near home and cover it myself with some disney fabric. No biggie there.

I did find a page kit at the Trading Post at the camp grounds and at epcot found some Mexico jolees to go with the world of showcase.

I agree with everyone. We went over Thanksgiving. I did buy some albums (DD loves the Princesses and wanted the pink one), some stickers and the Tinkerbell punch.

What I cannot understand is the punches. Why would anyone make a punch only designed to cut normal paper when so many people use cardstock?

As I have said before, Disney is missing the boat on the $1 billion/year scrapbooking industry. I would pay more for exclusive, beautiful items that worked. Those Mickey scissors are a joke!

Those Mickey scissors are a joke!

When we were there I got those scissors that cut the head/ears on the edges. I even got them for my secret sister at the time, cause I thought they were just so cute...they are the hardest things to get to work right! Small cuts are OK, but large ones don't work. I was so disappointed and embarassed as I sent they to someone else too...

AND those quote stickers...what's up with that? I thought I was getting a bunch of stickers...what is it, like 12 stickers, and 10 pages of repeats? How many times can the same stickers be in a book...can you say Pizza Box Swap:lmao:

Hey, I think I have those same sticker quotes.. I was so disappointed in the fact that it was 10 pages of repeats!
I still have 1/2 the paper from the paper pack I spent 15.00 on.. :( Never again!!

Last February when I went to disney I was overly excited about the scrapbook store and I couldn't wait to go there. I planned on spending a lot of money and getting lots of stuff. I walked in and was disappointed, it was nothing that I expected. I did get a few items but nothing to brag about.

Whew!!! I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one disapointed in the store at DTD. :confused3 I too was prepaired to spend quite a good deal of time and money in the store. I did end up getting a few things...most of which haven't been used. (some velium WDW tag stickers and a box of vintage disney sticker...which ended up being the best thing because I have used quite a few of them). I did find SOME papers that I liked and thought I'd use BUT when I saw you could only get them by purchasing the packs I decided against it. No way was I going to spend that much on a pack of papers that I only really liked a few of. Now if I could have purchased papers by the sheet and not the pack...then I probably would have stocked up on some of them. Other than that I really didn't find a thing. :confused3 I know next time I more than likely won't even bother going to that store.

I agree with the others. The store was much smaller than I expected, and fairly expensive. I think I only bought a package of confetti.
