We are planning a trip to WDW at the beginning of May and have not made reservations yet. We have always stayed onsite but are trying to save a little money and because there are 5 (2 adults, 3 children)of us it limits what we can do without booking two rooms etc. so we have been thinking about one of the hotels in downtown disney. We have three queries....are they a lot different from the actual disney resorts? How much of a problem is the transportation (if we wanted to take a break midday for example)? Which one is the best for us????? Thank you so much for your help.

I am not sure if the DTD resorts give you access to Extra Magic Hours. Also, the transportation is not as frequent to and from your hotel. The DTD hotel busses drop you off further from each park than the Disney busses. You cannot have packages delivered from the parks to your hotel. You don't have charging privileges on your hotel card key for the various parks.

Only the Hilton gives you EMH.

These are more traditional hotels then the Disney hotels. No Mickey soaps and limited to no Disney touches.

They have their own transport. Reviews vary, but I would say it is pretty good. Runs often to all of the parks.

I can't say which is best for you. The old Courtyard/Holiday Inn would have been a good choice (the rooms were pretty large), but I don't know if it will open in time for your stay.

There is a Doubletree Suite which would give you more room, but it also fartherst from Disney.

We stayed at the Grovesnor 4 years ago. This was our one and only time we stayed at Downtown Disney. Now this is just our experience that we had.
The buses were horrible with their schedule. Also they parked in the middle of the parking lot when picking you up from the parks. So if it's raining your gonna get wet. :umbrella: It just doesn't feel like Disney when your staying off the property. I would never do it again. But everyone has their preference.
Good Luck!

Thank you so much for the information....made my choice easy!!! Just booked Port Orlean's Riverside instead................oooohhhhh can't wait!!!!!

I have been to the Double Tree in DTD and I thought it was very nice.
