Are there still WDW resorts/rooms over by Downtown disney?
The closest Disney owned and operated resort to DTD is Saratoga Springs Resort. It's within walking distance of the Marketplace end of DTD. OKW and PO are the next closest (not walking distance unless you like to hike), and offer boat or bus transport to DTD.
The other DTD hotels are not owned or operated by Disney. The Hilton does allow access to Extra Magic Hours, but other than that, you don't get the perks at these hotels that you get at a Disney hotel. Also, they are served by their own shuttle to the parks, not Disney transportation.
Fyi,
we stayed at SSR in December, and you can also walk to Westside.

Courtyard by Marriott became Holiday Inn but it is still closed after the hurricanes.
We were there last week and the Holiday Inn is still closed. We've stayed at the Courtyard by Marriot (new name...Holiday Inn I believe now), Wyndham Palace (new name too??), the Doubletree twice, and the Hilton this August. The transportation buses are the Disney Transportation buses...at least thats what they say on the bus. I believe the hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd. have their own buses that stop at those hotels only and not other Disney resorts. Becasue the hotels are within WDW, you get most of the resort perks, but not all. There are the buses, you can have package/orders delievered to them, and I believe most of them offer Extra Magic Hours. That's how it's been everytime we've stayed there, if they've changed within the last year i wouldn't know, but that's what I've noticed in the past. Off the top of my head, you do not get the Key to the World...but you do get a cookie at the Doubletree LOL...we also got chocolate covered strawberries WOOOOOOO!!!! LOL!!!
We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Hotel Plaza Blvd on the night before Hurricane Charlie struck (8/12/04). On Friday the 13th we headed over to Port Canaveral to sail on the Magic on Saturday.
The Holiday Inn was o.k. Could probably use a re-furbish. I do not think the damage to the HI was that extensive. I do know that the Doubletree down the road had one whole facade ripped off (fake stucco does not hold up to high wind). Anybody know why the HI is still closed almost 3 years later?
Does SSR feel like you are not staying onsite? Does it feel more like a regular Orlando hotel?
