Downtown Disney question

Not sure where to post this, but I am curious about what it will be like to stay at Downtown Disney....more like offsite???? We got a great rate at the Holiday Inn, and am hoping some of you will have tips, feedback and/or are willing to share experiences.

We love the Hotel Plaza Blvd properties! Why? Saves a pretty penny, and it's a GREAT location! After a day in the parks, it's so nice to just take a leisurely walk to DD. DH and I always make a point to visit Ghirardelli's for an ice cream cone and then walk back to the hotel. (BTW, we're splitting our 12 day vacation between three resorts in May, starting with three days at this same Holiday Inn with a great rate from Hotwire...then moving to Dolphin and the Sheraton Safari as we visit offsite attractions).

I've never done it but last year while touring DD the hotels looked fun and them being so close to DD and PI and Disney Quest looked so inviting. But then I love DD and the other places.

DH and I stayed at Courtyard, now the Holiday Inn in Sept. 2001. We really enjoyed it, the bus service was fantastic. We also enjoyed walking over to DTD at night. We ate at the Rainforest and just liked people watching. We are not late nighters but if you are you can take advantage of PI. We have just decided to go in April and I am trying to get the Hotwire price for the Holiday Inn.

Also liked having a restaurant right in the hotel. We had the breakfast buffet each morning until they closed it because of low attendance. We were there right after 9/11 and the hotel and the parks were empty.
