We have owned BWV since 2000...one 200 pt. contract and one 25 pt. contract. We enjoyed DW with the kids for many years, but they are now grown. We still would like to have a family trip with them to DW, but no more than once every three years or so. I would like to keep the 25 pt. contract to go to F & W every other year. If we borrowed one year, we could get a studio for five nights at BWV. We love Aulani and would probably want to go there more than DW. Airfare is not an issue, as I am retired from the airlines.
We would like to sell the 200 pt. contract and buy a 100-125 pt. contract at Aulani, or two smaller contracts..50 pt. each. We just don't think we need 200 pts. anymore. Any thoughts? Is there something I'm not thinking of here? Thanks

Agree with @disneynutz that unless you anticipate a problem booking Aulani at 7-months out you shouldn't sell/buy. You'll wind up loosing money on the deal to no good effect. FWIW, we've book Aulani Grand Villa's at the 7 month window for three years now. First was for February, second year was for April and this year its May.

You all have made a good point. There really isn't a problem booking at 7 months, as of now. I don't know if it will continue to be that way once it sells out...but, that could be a while. I guess we were just thinking we don't need 200 points anymore...just trying to figure out how to downsize.

It's not something I would do, but I know many would. You can easily rent your BW points especially for people wanting to stay there for Food and Wine and apply that money to your maintenance fees.

Aulani is up against some stuff competition in the neighborhood with Four Seasons on one side and Atlantis planned on the other. Should be interesting to see what happens but I wouldn't buy there.

Are there grandkids now or maybe in the future? If so, I would rent your unused points for a few years, then keep your 200 points for going to Disney with the grandkids.

Or maybe your kids would like to buy your unused points from you for the cost of dues?

No grandkids just yet, but probably in the near future. So that's something to consider, too. Thanks

Bill, any particular reason why you wouldn't buy there?

True...I could easily rent 100 pts. and keep the other 100. I should try this first before I make any decision. Thanks

You could likely pocket some money but not a lot. If you decided to do this, I'd buy the Aulani first and find a subsidized contract. If you could find a fixed week that worked, even better. Personally I wouldn't for the reasons already noted here. You'll have more options with the BWV than Aulani.

Unknown if Aulani will hold it's value, it's a remote resort, with an upscale timeshare/resort on one side and a multi billion dollar Atlantis resort on the other. That has to reduce Aulani occupancy.

Or maybe the Atlantis resort will increase the things to do and make more people to choose Aulani?

Can you go and use Atlantis resort facilities even if you aren't staying on site? My friend stayed next door to aulani a few years ago at the marriot and said she couldn't really do much at aulani (another friend was staying at aulani and they tried to meet up).

If four seasons and Atlantis activities and pools are exclusive to guests, then aulani is unlikely to increase in value. If they aren't exclusive then maybe.

I'm sure they'll be exclusive for pools and the like. Restaurants and bars will be open to others. I doubt it'll increase value, it'll likely decreases it simply to to competition.

Thank you, Dean...I do love BWV, but wish I had bought 2 smaller contracts instead of the 200 pt. and I could sell one of them now. Oh, well... I didn't think about that at the time.

You wouldn't really be ahead by the time you paid more per point at the time. You could buy smaller and sell what you have now and be around break even or better.

We have 360 points at Aulani plus over 1000 points at other resorts. We bought right when they went on sale so,we got a good price. We usually go for about 10 days each year and stay in a one bedroom ocean view which is about 49 points a night when we go. So we use points from other resorts and have never had a problem getting rooms seven months out. But we go in April or May. Once you hit June thru August, especially for standard view, you have to book about 11 months out. We tried to go in June this year because our grandson was graduating from 8th grade and we couldn't get what we wanted. But we got May when booking Seven months out withiut a problem.

Disney is selling BWV for $155 per point and buyers have to go on a wait list. (I just asked about them Monday) They are allowing purchases at little as 50pts. (My husband and I have no kids and don't plan to go every year, so that is our plan.) Smaller point sales seem to go faster and sell a little more per point. So if you decide to sell you may consider that route. They are going so fast I'm considering buying from Disney just to get the smaller purchase. I'll wait a bit no great hurry.
