Downsize Reservation Question

Were going to DW in May of next year, and this time we will be going with my father/stepmom and brother/wife. Now, they dont like the idea of booking everything 180 days out. If I book a reservation for all of us, can I just downsize the amount of people eating when I get there? An example would be I make a reservation for all 8 of us, and just my wife, son and I end up going. Any thoughts on this is appreciated!

I am not by any means the expert on this, but technically I don't think you can change the # of people on an ADR, you would have to cancel and make new one, which is risky. But I have shown up for an ADR with a couple of people missing (SIL's boss called her back to work, couldn't be helped) and it wasn't a problem - that was at Chef Mickey's.

I am worried about the exact same thing for our trip next summer though. Myself, DH, and DD probably wouldn't miss an ADR unless it was a life or death emergency, but the other 6 people going with us seem a little less than committed to having such a strict schedule, and I am afraid they will end up bailing on at least a couple of ADRs at the last minute. I may make some of ours as two separate ADRs (a party of 3 and a party of 6) so that if they change their mind, I at least won't have to worry about our ressie getting messed up. If you don't mind not always sitting together, this might be an option.

My problem, is they are all staying in my room, so 1 reservation to each room right?

i don't think you are limited to any number of reservations, at least not as far as I know. However, I have heard that Disney will sometimes cancel your ADRs if it looks like you are trying to double book, but I would think that as long as the number of people you have ADRs for does not exceed the number of people on the reservation, they would understand that they were all legit.

Unless you are using the 180+10 for ADRs you don't even have to link the ADR to a room ressie, so you could even put it under a different name.

I know if you "double book" the system will cancel both.
