has anyone downloaded pictures from your memory cards for your digital camera's? i heard you can do this at kodak at MK and dark room at MGM. i also heard no resorts offer this. does anyone know how much it costs/how long it takes, like do they offer a 1 hr or something? i was kind of planning on just buying an extra memory card for extra pictures, instead of downloading them to a disk at WDW, but i dont know now, someone else has a thread and lost some of her pictures maybe due to static electricity. i appreciate any answers!

We downloaded all of our pics at Walgreens, just outside the park a bit....I know this doesn't help if you are staying onsite though.
 I had two 512MB compact flash cards but still had all my pictures transferred to a CD every night...I guess I took lots of pictures :rolleyes1
We did not lose any pictures and now have approx. 1800 pics that were tranferred to CD's---it was cheap to do and we could take pictures like crazy

Can you have that downloaded to a cd while you wait? I'm considering buying a new digital camera before we go in May and was wondering how many medial cards I would end up having to buy.

The wait isn't terribly long and it depends on how busy they are---the first night they weren't busy and it only took about 20 minutes for them to load approx 250 pics.
The rest of the nights we would just take the card in and transfer it, and pick it up next evening.
I had two 512 MB cards, each held over 300 pictures so I would take one card to Walgreens in the evening and transfer all of the pictures to CD to be picked up the following evening then I would use the other card the next day so I wouldn't copy over any of my pics until I knew for sure they transferred safely to the CD. I did this each day, that way I guaranteed I had the pics off the card before copying over it!
It just made me feel better knowing that I had a back up and wasn't feeling rushed to have the pics transferred.
The cards can be expensive but I bought one off eBay and it worked great plus I saved $$-the other I picked up when I bought the camera at a photo shop

How much does it cost to have them download to a CD? And can they accomodate any kind of card? (I find a lot of services don't accomodate Sony memory stick).

I have a nifty gadget that will take ANY kind of card (compact flash, memory stick, etc) and burn a CD. It is about the size of a portable DVD player, but heavier. So I download to a CD every night, then use the portable DVD player to review the CD and make sure it is good before I delete my memory stick.

But I sure would like to NOT have to lug that thing and the portable DVD with me. (OK - I'd still probably have to bring the portable DVD for DS on the plane).

Do you happne to have a labtop by chance? If so you can just dowload your memory card each night into your computer, and copy it to CD (assuming you have a CD burner) each night that way. We do this and then have the photo shop develop them once we get back, it saves us a trip to photo shops on vacation.

If you do not have a labtop thouhg, definitely hit up Walgreens. At home we always get our development done at Walgreens b/c they do such a good job on our photos. (Were picky too considering I grew up in a family that did wedding photography, so I tend to be very critical.) Just make sure the person developing your photos is not new though. It would be horrible if your photos weren't CD copied, you downloaded your memory card, then deleted your photos from your memory card, only to arrive to pick up your photos and discoverthey had come out wrong! ((I've had this happne and learned from it quickly.))

They could accomodate different memory cards and sticks but I cannot remember what kinds-they had slots for different kinds---can you tell I'm new at the whole digital thing ;)
Now the # of pictures per CD varied but I do have one CD that has 250 pictures on it--the cost I cannot remember I do believe just around $4.00 for CD----I do have a receipt and it was for 11 prints(had a few trial pictures printed to see wht they looked like) and 2 CD's and the total was $9.17
I think that is incredible-as it saves your pics freeing up your memory-we definately thought it was worth it!
