I read on a trip report from flamestardust that she was able to downgrade from the basic DDP to the QSDP back in 2010. Does anyone know if that is still possible? (I'd post the link, but I'm under 10 posts, so not allowed)

Or is it possible to do the opposite and go to the desk to UPGRADE partway through? I'd love to have, say 3 or 4 nice sit down dinners in my week and pay accordingly but do quick service the rest of the week.

Thanks!

I don't believe that you can change dining plans mid-trip. You can change before the trip which plan you use but it will stay the same for the entire trip.

Unless, of course, you do a split stay and use 1 dining plan for one reservation and another dining plan for the other reservation. You'd also need to purchase a set of park tickets for each reservation. Unless you have an AP and are using AP rates for the reservations...

As far as I know, only DVC members staying on points and paying for their dining plan can segment their stays in a way that allows them different dining plans for one trip. And as PP said, you must finalize your plans at least 72 hours prior to check-in. Also, for anyone esle wondering about this, if you are going during a free dining promotion and you are staying mod or deluxe, you cannot downgrade to QSDP, but you can upgrade to DxDP.

You CAN use TS credits at QS restaurants, though. Good luck with your planning.:thumbsup2

Only DVC members booking their stays through Member Services can do this. On a package, it has to be the same dining plan for the entire stay, unless splitting between two separate package reservations. The problems with doing the split package stay are 1) unless you are an annual passholder or eligible for the military discount, you have to buy tickets with both packages and 2) if you book a split stay in the same resort, you are not guaranteed to keep the same room.
