Originally, we had scheduled a late breakfast at Boma for this morning of our trip. It was a leisurely day for us, so I didnt think it would be a hassle to get to Animal Kingdom Lodge when we pleased, and then make our way back in the same manner. When the day drew closer though, we both realized that it just takes too much time and effort to get all the way over there just for breakfast! We went to the concierge to see what could be done, and were able to get a 9:30am reservation at Kouzzina instead!
I had originally had this restaurant on my ADR list, but had heard mixed reviews and second thought it. Im very glad we were able to go, because it turned out to be our first of two breakfasts at Kouzzina during our stay!
We arrived and were surprised at the quietness of the place, even though it was later in the morning (for Disney standards, that is) and outside on the Boardwalk there were many people grabbing something from Boardwalk Bakery. Our hostess took us to a nice little booth towards the back of the restaurant; shortly after, our waiter came.
He took our drink order and went to get a chef. Ordering was different here, because we had gotten used to the buffet breakfasts! With the Deluxe Plan, breakfast at an ala carte restaurant includes a drink and an entrée; that narrowed things down for me a lot!
Jeremy had ordered the
Berry Smoothie, which he mentioned was very good. Hes a big smoothie-type of person, so I trust his judgment on this one! I got regular coffee with Soy milk. They had Press Pot coffee in a larger carafe, but that was an extra charge and I didnt want to waste my own money on coffee!
The Chef came out to talk to me and made some suggestions. Even though many of the menu items I had been looking over sounded interesting and different than the usual fare at Disney, what the chef suggested was mainly just the Steel Cut oatmeal or fruit. I LOVE oatmeal, but I didnt want it on vacation. After looking over the menu, I asked her if I could combine a few things and take off some ingredients
she was VERY willing to do any of that for me! How exciting when you can create your own menu item!
Jeremy ordered the
Spinach, Tomato and Feta Scramble with Roast Potatoes and Chicken Sausage. I think it was more food than he had eaten for breakfast all week! He loved the addition of feta to the eggs instead of normal cheddar. He liked the sausage, but not being a morning meat type of person, didnt wind up eating too much of it.
I had a little of this and a little of that, which amounted to the
Vegetable Flatbread, no eggs or feta, with an addition of Sweet Potato Hash. WOW. WOOOOOW. It came out and was so pretty, and turned out to taste even better than it looked. There was an Olive Oil drizzle over the lettuce and sweet potatoes, and everything was warm and filling. It wasnt too heavy though, since it was only sweet potatoes and spinach primarily! I ate half of it and took the rest to save for later!
Kouzzina really exceeded my expectations. I am a fan of Mediterranean food, but had read some mixed reviews and didnt come into the place with much faith in them. I had here when it was Spoodles, and I can say that while I wasnt impressed with it them, I will ALWAYS come back now that its Kouzzina!
Our Out of Pocket total would have been
$33.08. Like I mentioned earlier, we liked it so much we came back later in the week!
