Down Here Now---Thinking About Buying VGF

The only thing that scares me is the availability of the Studio Rooms (standard view), as I just read on here today there are only like 18 of them. Not a big fan of the 'reserved week', as we usually stay more than 7 nights (9-10)---so I would still end up having to add-on.

We typically vacation in early November, so is this a tough time to book (if we do not choose the reserved week)? They are offering our purchased 170 points, plus an additional 170 points back to the use year of June 2013 (so we will get an additional 170 before our next vacation).

I LOVE the VGF, and really prefer to stay there---but will not have the points for the 1/2 bedroom villas. Will this be more of a pain to always try to book the studios?

Please let me know ASAP of the pro's and con's of this. I researched a little of the DVC, but didn't expect to fall in love with the VGF like I did today!

You certainly have a better chance if you own there than if you do not. If you are only buying enough to ever be able to book a standard view studio and not even lake view you may not always get it even if you try to book right at the 11 month window but you should be able to regularly get something there if you are booking at 11 months.

There are a potential of 47 studios, all part of 2BR lock-offs, 30 (not 18) of which are standard view and 17 lake view. If you buy with the intent of getting standard view studio, you are likely to be able to get it early November as long you can reserve exactly 11 months out. That time of year is a high DVC demand time and it is likely that studios are going to be the highest demanded rooms, but using the 11 month window should work; however, you should not act on the assumption that once much of VGF is sold out, you will easily be able to get a standard or lake view studio that time of year if you book 8-10 months out or otherwise miss your 11 month reservation window.

Take some time to think about it and do some more research on DVC since it doesn't sound like you were really considering it before. The deal will still be there for you. The so called extra points are simply current points and not anything extra that you wouldn't otherwise receive if you do decide that DVC is for you.

With a couple of kids, I would not buy a fixed week studio. You will see in a couple of years that you will want a 1 bedroom.

You can always buy enough points for a studio now and add on later via resale to get the 1 bedroom.

Check your UY and buy one that works best for you, not what they tell you to buy.

If you bought a June UY you would be getting 2013 points and then your 2014 points next June, they aren't giving you anything extra or special, remember they are sales people.

VGF is easy to fall in love with. My DW certainly did. I think DVC did a great job.

So you have a June UY. You have 2013 UY points (170), but June 1, 2014, you get another 170 points. So are you saying you also got June 2012 points? The resort wasn't opened then.

You can't even get a week in a one bedroom at VGF for 170 points. The cheapest time of the year is 247 for a week in a standard view one bedroom villa.

I agree with Bill, though. The studio is not going to be enough once you try a one bedroom villa somewhere.

I'm going to third that, about getting the one bedroom. If those two children are yours than pretty soon you'll want at least a 1 bd. Give thought to 5, 10, 20 years down the road too, will you invite other people to join you, like cousins or friends, because the studio won't work then. Of course you can add on later. There is a lot of money involved here; keep doing your homework so you won't regret a rash decision.
