Doubling up park reservations (AP plus resort res) for a pre-2 pm "park hop"

Hi, all - this may be answered elsewhere, so thanks for your patience...

I'm out of state, but I have just enough Disney stuff planned (or likely) for the next year to make an annual pass worth it, so I've been considering it... I always stay on property and am usually there for a max of 3-4 nights at a time.

I noticed that my sister (Fl resident, AP holder) is currently holding 2 concurrent park reservations for one day that she is a resort guest during an upcoming visit - which made me think - can AP holders double up park reservations, using an AP res and a resort res for the same day - and therefore essentially "park hop" before 2 pm? With the way I visit WDW, that could push me right on into buying an AP.

Thanks!

(ETA - changed title to be clear that I am talking about two park reservations for the same person, not two sets of tickets for the same person)

No, you cannot do this. You are allowed one reservation per ticket (and for the sake of this, an AP is a ticket).

That's what I had thought.

I know she hopped from DHS to Epcot at 11 last weekend, but that was for her Remy preview. I figured that was because they made the Epcot "park reservations" for APs signed up for that.

But I'm literally looking at MDE right now and she has two sets of reservations for the same day for our upcoming trip in Nov - she booked this as a test last night.

No.

You could, in theory, use an AP and an actual separate park ticket, but it would burn a day from the park ticket.

Could be an IT glitch. The only way it could be legit is if she had a second type of admission media on her account besides her AP. The resort has nothing to do with park entitlements.

I mean, that would clearly be ridiculous. But I was looking at this double booking and thinking - well, why COULDN'T you double up your reservation types, one an AP "open" reservation that you can hold at any time, and one a resort-related reservation? I mean, it clearly isn't what Disney intends with the park reservation system, but...

I would agree that it must be an IT glitch.
As noted, the only legit way to do this would be to have 2 different types of tickets to use that day, which would make no sense.

The old and new AP reservation systems (launched after new APs were sold) can’t “see” each other. I had 3 reservations for an upcoming trip (no onsite stay involved) and when logging in to the new system it said I had all 5/5 reservations available. The old reservations still showed in my plans.

There's no such thing as a resort-related reservation. Every single reservation is tied to a theme park admission entitlement. There are no reservations tied to your resort stay.

These are all new reservations. Her AP isn't up for renewal until July.

To be clear, I know that, but since APs get a certain number of park reservation "holds" (say, 5 for an Incredi-Pass) plus an unlimited number of park reservation "holds" when the passholder is staying at a WDW resort, I wondered whether the park reservation "holds" could be doubled up on the same day. Again, because I am looking at double reservations for one AP holder who is staying at a WDW resort during our upcoming stay with my own eyes.

So the answer is - either this is an IT glitch (likely)...or maybe this is a loophole (unlikely, but beguiling).

Yes, you can do this for the 29th and the 30th, IF you are a passholder. It has nothing to do with the resort stay. We have a double reservation as well. Passholders only, and the availability is limited. This was announced yesterday.

There's a third possibility where it's just a less-than-perfect IT system, but not quite a glitch.

For example, with FastPass+, if you cancelled your resort reservation you wouldn't immediately lose your FastPass reservations until Disney did a scrub every few days to resolve those discrepancies. The tool might check for doubled reservations, but it might not check them in real time and this one just wasn't discovered yet.

These are for mid-November.

I keep thinking about the fact that she hopped the other day from DHS, at its opening to EPCOT at ITS opening - she was texting me outside the gate, and it was 11 am, she was headed in to ride Remy. I figured that Remy previews were a special situation - but what if they aren't? What if it's a benefit, but one that most people probably wouldn't take advantage of?

I mean, almost certainly this is a glitch.

But I'm really tempted to call Disney and ask.

Ah ok. Yeah, I would say it's a glitch!

To further complicate it .......... like right now I can't remove two people from my MDE because they "hold tickets" but when I click on through there are not tickets. For years I had a one day ticket listed in my account, I had no such ticket and when I went to parks it never used that ticket. End result MDE was telling me I had tickets to use but at the gate there were no tickets. Disney IT ...

I suggest she try to get this fixed because she could ignore the set she didn't want, and when she shows up to the one she wants they tell her it doesn't really exist and she can't get in.

I def wouldn't buy something based on someone else's glitch, or a loop that hasn't closed etc. Only buy it based on the conditions that come with it.

She can cancel one set herself. She made the second set on purpose, just to see if the system would let her. But I agree, that would be classic Disney IT to have the "right" ones (or both sets) be wiped away like magic.

I called Disney's AP line, they think it's a glitch, but they also weren't certain. The woman I spoke to seemed very concentrated on, "You don't need two reservations..." So I had to say, "Well, actually, if you wanted to park hop before 2 pm..." She then said, "Ohhhhhhhh.... I don't know. that seems like a glitch."

I'm still curious, though. Maybe it's a glitch that won't be "fixed".

Thanks for your responses!
