Hi Everyone. We'll be headed to Disneyland in December...I'll be five months along. Now, I'm no Disneyland novice - in fact we go about twice a year. However this time I am pregnant and have gestational diabetes. Double whammy. Needless to say I can't enjoy my favorite treats/rides while there this time.

Can any of you think of where I can get a meal with a lean protein and veggies, with a very small amount of carbs? We won't be going to California Adventure, where there are probably more options...

Any other tips about rides or anything else?

I'm trying not to let this get me down...and I'll try harder to focus on the magic...but just thought I'd ask. :)

TIA. :earsboy:

For sure avoid Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Someone posted a menu where you could ask for special food at varius resteraunts just recently. Hopefully someone will post a link to it...

I've been to DLR twice while I was pregnant. Once when I was 5 1/2 months along and the other I was just about 4 months along. I was able to enjoy alot of the rides. Basically all the rides that don't have a height requirement are safe. Bring your camera and take lots of pictures of things you normaly don't have time to. Look for hidden mickeys.

As for food you could always order salad with grilled chicken, can't remember exactly where, but I know they have them(I think Pizaa Port in TL. For snacks you can get fresh fruit and veggies at some of the food carts throughout DL. Those are yummy! Some of the stores sell sugarfree treats. BTW - not sure how your budget is, but if you at ate some of the table service resturants you most likely can find something on their menus, such as grilled fish or chicken.

Don't worry you are going to have a wonderful trip! It will be what you make of it:thumbsup2

I would think most of the sit down restaurants would have a diabetic option on their menu. The first counter service that popped into my mind was Bengal BBQ, just be sure the sauce is served on the side.

We ate at the French Market CS. I had the beef dish and it came with a decent size portion of beef, mashed potatoes, and lots of veggies. You could probly sub extra veggies for the potatoes (except the potatoes were yummy!)

I would try one of the Disney Hotel restaurants.

There are menus of all the TS and counter service establishments on this site and on Allears.

Eating diabetic can be challenging when on vacation.

I would bring some prepackaged raw vegetables with that itty bitty tab of ranch dipping sauce they give you. Bring anything prepackaged you usually have at home and that can be taken into parks.

Remember if you need to store insulin for the day, take it to the medical center where they will put your name on it and place in refrigerator. I have used the center to do my dialysis treatments. The nurses at the medical center are happy to help in anyway. If you get tired and need to rest the center has beds you can take a 30 min or longer rest with out having to spend time going to hotel and back again. Sorry but most of thrill rides are out of question. :(. Indianna IMPO would be to jerky.

Have a wonderful trip

And Congrats on new baby

Turkey leg should be 0 carbs, they have the fruit stand tat sells veggies and the freeze dried apples, pickles, burger or grilled chicken sandwich with one side of the bun, they have no sugar added ice cream at Gibson girl, hot dog with no or 1/2 bun. Hope that helps...

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful and helpful responses! I really appreciate it. :)

Check out Allearsnet.com to see menus from all the restaurants. You might want to look at Carnation Cafe. They had a very good salad when we were there. Also, call Disneyland and ask to talk to one of the chefs/dieticians. They can advise you on what and where to eat to meet you dietary requirements.
