Hi there:)

We will be travelling to Orlando next September. We have our Disney component booked, but not our Universal.

We will be staying 5 nights in the Universal area (4th - 9th) - and I am not sure where to stay. :confused3 I can get a rate of less that $100 at the Double Tree at the Entrance to US - or just over $100.00 for Hyatt Place. What would you suggest? There will be 3 Adults.

We will be looking to shop and check out I-Drive as well as the Universal parks.

For this time of year, I can't really see the value in staying onsite.

Appreciate any assistance, and feed back on either of these hotels.

Thanks!

Hi,

I stayed for 3 nights at the Doubletree in early October when I went to Universal

It is a very nice hotel with 2 17 storey towers with a large courtyard leading ot a food court and the restaurant for the breakfast buffet, a large pool( deep end is 9ft deep) . There is also a fitness centre
It is about 15mins walk to Universal/IOA ( including waiting for the lights to cross Major Boulevard). The rooms were good and looked like they had been recently refurbished.
There is a TGI fridays across the road and there is also a Walgreens less than a 5 minute walk.
A very good hotel.

Regards

TBS

Hyatt is also a very nice hotel -- great staff, free shuttle to the park, maybe 2-3 doors down from the Doubletree. You can't go wrong with the Hyatt.

I loved the Hyatt Place. It had a huge room with large sitting area - including wet bar, fridge and microwave. Plasma tvs but small bathrooms. Nice free continental breakfast and lobby liquor/coffee bar. We only paid $50 a night so you may want to price shop a bit.

Thanks everyone.:)

One more question, are both hotels really easy to get to the IDrive trolley? Or is it a really long walk?

Do you mind me asking where you found that price of $50 per night?

I have not been to either of these specific hotels. but I have been to both chains many times. For the same price I would pick a Hyatt Place each and every time. Especially for 3 adults because each person will have their own bed and there is a great breakfast available.

It was last January and I keep all my travel hotel receipts in a folder. I just looked it up and it was actually Hotwire, which means I didn't know what I was getting until I paid. I had typed in "3-star and above" and "Universal North area" and ended up with Hyatt Place. We actually walked to the parks from the hotel instead of taking the shuttle. I am sure Doubletree is on there too, but you won't know until you've paid. Good luck!
