Double stroller or two singles?

Hi, I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. Just wondering if better to bring a double stroller side by side style, or two single strollers for our upcoming April disney trip?

I am just worried that double stroller maybe too wide to push around in the park with crowds? If that's not an issue then I rather use the double than two singles as we don't need both adults be tied to strollers.

Any advise from your past experience? Thanks!

Hi! We have done both with our kids, and actually preferred two separate strollers. Reason being is that my youngest always fell asleep early. DH would volunteer to take him back to the hotel. My oldest and I would stay in the parks later. That way we both had our own stroller. It also helped if we ever separated for any reason. We already had one single, and I bought another just like it on Craigslist for $25. Was able to sell it for $25 when we were done with it. When we did use a double, it was a sit and stand because I didn't want to deal with a double wide stroller. Although, I know a lot of people really like using the double wide. Hope that helps!

It will be a challenge navigating a wide stroller, but probably worth it. You could probably weave in and out of "traffic" better with two singles, but then you HAVE to have two adults available to push. I've done DLR and WDW with a double, but ours was front seat, back seat, not side by side. That was a challenge too, but you can do it!! Some people could say "why do you need a stroller for the five year old?" I am a firm believer that it's worth it to get more park time in if they have a place to rest, and a seat for parades. Their little legs get tired, so it's more enjoyable for everyone if they can take a break :)

We went this past year with an almost-5 year and almost-3 year old. I agree second @crystal1313 comment - if your 3 year old gets worn down or still naps, it's nice to have 2 because then someone can go off with the 5 year old and do things. My DS (5) got in way more rides, shows and sites by us doing this.

Another vote for two strollers. I went with two kids and we debated between using the double stroller and two single strollers and ultimately decided to go with two strollers. That gave us more freedom as mentioned by crystal1313. Sometimes the younger one went back earlier, sometimes he needed to nap, and other times the two kids just wanted to do different things, so we weren't constrained to stay together all of the time if we wanted both kids in a stroller. Also, I found it hard enough to navigate the crowds with a single stroller...I can't imagine trying to maneuver a double stroller through the post-parade crowds or in the shops (some have very narrow aisles).

Definitely a double. My husband and I do rider switch a lot. One of us would be stuck trying to push two strollers alone. I also don't want to keep track of two strollers. Only time we had a hard time negotiating crowds was after the fireworks.

I had the same question, so thank you Pinkberryfox for asking! I'll be with a 3 yr old and a 21 month old so I'll definitely need a double or two singles as well.
Does anyone know if DL rents double strollers or are they all singles?

I went to DLR many times with my twins, then many times with my twin granddaughters. Two strollers is definitely the better way to go. Maneuvering a double through the doors and crowds is very difficult, and with a double you cannot separate and take the kids to different places.

We rented a double city mini from City Stroller Rentals on two occasions and it was great. Next time.... My kids will be 4 and 5.5 and we are going to try to go stroller free-eek!!

My vote is two single strollers. Pushing one stroller is hard enough, a double would be a nightmare. Plus most store aisles aren't wide enough to accommodate a double, something to consider if you like to shop. There's a huge possibility that your 5 year old won't even need a stroller most of the time, thus eliminating the need for a double stroller.

I second the separate strollers with the stroller connectors. Best of both worlds. We could each push a stroller, but if someone had to do both it was really easy to clamp them together. Also they could be separated and be smaller folded up for rides on the train, monorail etc. It worked perfectly for us!

City stroller rentals have super nice strollers for 75 for the week they deliver to your hotel and pick up when you are done. We've done this twice and it's so worth it!

We did 2 singles last year for our 2 and 4 year old, most of the time we only pushed around 1. When we got to the land/or area of the park we would be visiting we parked the 4 year olds and let her walk. she only wanted to ride in the stroller to and from the parks and when we were switching from land to land. It worked perfectly for that, we didn't leave anything in her stroller so it didn't matter if we left it unattended for a couple of hours, we did have a balloon tied to it so we knew which one was ours when it inevitably got moved around.

Perhaps consider a 2-kid stroller that is vertically stacked? Bulkier than single sure, but less wide, and easier to weave around.

We did a double from City Stroller Rentals and it was an extremely positive experience all the way around. The company did a fantastic job - let me put that out there.

As for the size of the stroller, I didn't find it difficult to navigate anyway, including most shops. As for the convenience of splitting the kids, I can't speak to that as our youngest was only 9 months and just did whatever. On the next trip when each kid has an opinion, that might change. Now considering two strollers... :)
