I love Paula Deen, but I cringe when she licks her spoons or has guests eat a bite of her food after her.

I have a friend that constantly licks the spoon as she's cooking, even when she's having people over for dinner. I don't go there for dinner much.
I have made hinting jokes to her about it, but it hasn't helped yet.

It nauseates me to see, at a restaurant, a bowl of sauce and nachos, for 5 people to share.

Yes I agree licking the stirring spoon is gross. Also double dipping is gross. But if it is family such as me, DDs and DH I don't think much about it.

Oh we are fierce in our family about double dipping. No way would anyone even try. If they were to get caught we would berate them out of the kitchen in shame. We always make sure if we are having a dip or something that we put a spoon in there and make people get it out on their plate. My nephew, however, always always always eats out of the bowl (doesn't double dip) and it grosses me out because I just know that eventually part of his finger is going to hit the food. I hate double dipping.

Once at my babyshower a neighbor got some dip on her plate with the spoon and then she licked the spoon clean and stuck it back in the bowl!!!! Nasty. My mom told her she owned that bowl of dip since she did that. The neighbor was clueless and did not know what she did wrong. bleccccchhhhhhh

This is why I hate dips, and we are fast approching the dipping season. It seems Holiday gatherings are a frenzy for artichoke dips, cheese dips, spinach dip, clam dip, 5 layer dip etc. I only indulge in the dips if I see it has just been set out, but will not touch it if others have eaten some as it grosses me out. I have seen MANY folks and not just the kiddos double dip, or lick their fingers and then dip. YUCK!

That reminds me of the "Don't Double Dip the Chip" episode on Seinfeld. :lmao: When I put dip out for a party, I put the spoon there for people to put it on their plate and not to lick the spoon. :scared1: Now, if I'm eating with just my family, I have no problem with double dipping.

well my friends and family and I have double dipped since forever and guess what? We're all still alive! And no one got sick from it!

I sometimes lick spoons when cooking. But I don't double dip unless I am among only family.

I don't double dip. I break the chip/veg/whatever or flip it to dip again. I will admit, Ido sometimes lick my fingers or something unconciously while baking. Don't eat my Xmas cookies!;)

If it's just my family, we double dip all the time. I wouldn't do that at a party or anything.

Why would nachos and chips bother you though unless someone was double dipping? There's a difference between dipping and double dipping. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the former.

I am grossed out by it. My father in law double dips. I noticed it immediately , but after at least 10 years of marriage, I finally felt I had to tell my husband. Once I brought it to his attention, he has noticed and we no longer share dips or appetizers with sauces with him.

I have never been able to stand that or sharing a soda/drink of any kind. When the kids were little, I never let them have a drink from my glass unless was not going to have any more because I couldn't stomach it.

I do realize I will not likely perish from it but its a phobia I cannot overcome.

My husband and I don't mind if we share anything, but anyone else is so gross. My mother-in-law just LOVES to lick the spoon, serve with her hands (the spaghetti served with her hands on my plate--ack!) and instead of a knife and fork to cut my kids food, she likes to just peel it with her nails. BLECH!!! ACK!!! I have also dropped some major hints and she says things like "it is my family, it is fine". Thankfully, we only see them every few months, but still. YUCK!

My DFIL drives me insane because when we pop popcorn, he has to get out 6 individual bowls and you have to (without touching the popcorn) dip your bowl into the BIG bowl and then eat popcorn out of your own bowl. What's wrong with sharing a plate of nachos or a bowl of popcorn? I know I took a shower today...

Of course he also thinks taking plastic silverware to a restaurant sounds reasonable...

Wow! You guys would not have liked the crowd I ran with. We used to go to Trader Viks and get one of those big drinks that came in a large bowl with lots of straws. We all drank from the same bowl. I'm sure there were times when somebody blew into the drink. I wasn't worried all that alcohol would have killed any germs! :goodvibes

I'm not quite sure what you mean by peeling food with her nails instead of cutting it but that does sound gross. As far as serving with your hands goes, I don't have a problem with that as long as the food preparer washes their hands frequently. I mean, in restaurants, a cook's hands are his/her best utensil.

Don't eat baked goods from my house because we are all bowl lickers!! ;)

My name is EpcotBeauty.....and I'm a double dipper! :guilty: ;) :lmao:

I also lick spoons while cooking, but the company has no idea because the "Chef" needs her space while creating!!:snooty:
