Hey, Erica!! Sorry it's your weekend to work. :sad1:

How close are you to the "Geeks on a Budget" cruise? I'm thinking it's in October, but not 100% certain. Is the bring-aboard spirits list finalized yet? I know you and Lionnel have been experimenting and practicing! :rotfl:

Hey Kim - we're SUPER close, 45 days!

The tentative plan for alcoholic libations is to bring a normal sized bottle of nice vodka, which we can mix with anything from the drink stations and I will probably bring along a small water bottle filled with other mixers for variety (ie pomegranate or apple for "martinis"). We're definitely bringing the O'Mara's Irish Creme, because WOW. Cheap, and wonderful. And probably a bottle of wine. I'm also toying with the idea of brining along another water bottle with pre-mixed Wedding Cake martini for enjoyment on the beach at Castaway Cay.

You know, when I look at that I say to myself "maybe that's a little too much booze......" but then I remember last year's cruise :rolleyes1 AND that they are three of us :dance3: and I say "maybe it's not enough....."

:rotfl:

HAHA.. in my opinion you can NEVER have too much.. if so make a new friend or 2 and share!

Where are you going to in NC??

Talk about OCD vacation planning. My husband prints out everything for me that I collect and stuffs it in a folder. I just realized that we have 4 folders going!
I love to plan vacations!:cool1:

Yes, but do you have a 3 ring binder???? Asked because ScoobyPop's otehr half (Robert) does. I am very much a planner myself, but yegads--a binder! We all wanted him to offer a vacation planning siminar on the last cruise. Perhaps he can run it this time around:rotfl2:

Hello all, I am back from camping with the girl scouts. Unfortunately my glasses are not back, they are at the bottom of the lake:sad2: I do not do well with wearing my contacts for long days so I will be trying to get a pair in time to leave for vacation next Saturday (all days at WDW are long days)--wish me luck as I like very specific lenses which need to be special ordered:headache: Other than losing my glasses the trip went well. The girls had a blast, the food was good, we had DRY cabins to sleep in, etc. I could have done without the heat and HUMIDITY. It is the first time I have ever gone camping when it was too hot all night long to ever get into the sleeping bag. And, being that snakes are my phobia I really did not care for the little guy who slithered over my toes on the way back from the bathroom this morning. I did manage not to scream (which would have awakened a bevy of girls that were opting for sleep over breakfast) but did run right into my girls' cabin (they were up--not ones to miss any of the fun) and get some moral support (they know snakes are not my thing. It is okay. Spiders are not Rachael's thing and dogs are not Marika's thing--we all help each other out:) ).

Let's see-welcome to even more new folks:banana: My DD will be 11 and DS 9 on the cruise. The are happy to know of more playmates comming along (okay not their terminology, I am being told playmates are for preschoolers). I don't know anything about excursions (other than the Mayan ruins) as we do not generally do them.

  New authors to chekc into. How exciting. I hope I can get to the library this week (now that optometrists and whatnot have been added to the agenda). Oh, and are there any book lovers who can easily get rid of books??? I do not know of any. Also, any of you ladies read Robin McKInnely? I admit I have read mostly her adolescent stuff (I have a kid who loves her) but she is good and has strong female characters.

Erica--I am so jealous of your upcomming Geeks on a budget cruise. And you were just at the world, how very lucky are you?!

Kimberly--I am so glad you (and luggage) are home safe and sound. And  to going on vacation so soon with no hotel booked. I am so OCD I think I would book a "just in case" room with a good cancellation policy and just not tell about it so as to not get stuck. Yep, I am that pathetic!

Good night all.

How exciting!!! Sounds like you have a great libations plan! I've heard so much about the Weddig Cake Martini that it's a must that I try it. It sounds SOOO yummy!!

We'll be looking forward to the trippie! Sarah, it would be great to get one from you, too! :)

This is likely to be full of mistakes becasue I am typing sans glasses (still at he bottom of htat lake) or contacts (trying to decrease the numebr of hours I'll be wearing them) but here goes anyway:

Drea--I am highly impressed. Cropping and organizging all rolled into one. Very nice:thumbsup2

Erica--Can you post a couple of your favourite martini recipes at some point? If he could get recipes from the board, Dave just might read;) Definatly a fan of the martini, that one. Persoanlly, I honestly just like the taste of Coke better (great for Dave and our friends as it makes it pretty darned easy to figure out who will drive--though once in a while I do feel like a margarita or mojito;)

anewmac, you put my 4 manila folders to shame!;)

First off, Drea, WOW. You are an awesome crafting goddess! :cheer2:

HAHA.. in my opinion you can NEVER have too much.. if so make a new friend or 2 and share!

Better too much than not enough, right? Though I am starting to fear being followed by a drink-seeking crowd....

"Are you Erica? Can we try the Wedding Cake Martini please?"

Erica--I am so jealous of your upcomming Geeks on a budget cruise. And you were just at the world, how very lucky are you?!

Being a local certainly helps.....being so close to the world makes up for the sweltering hot summers we have to put up with! When Lionel and I got our annual passes originally, this is exactly why - it seems like such a waste NOT to, when you live so close. You have to take full advantage! :thumbsup2

Sarah might just ride on the coat tails of mine. Maybe she will be a guest blogger or something ;) You never know! Maybe we'll get the Canuck report after all!

I can give you wedding cake recipe right now! As for the pomegranate, I can tell you what Carrabbas puts in theirs but we just buy the pomegranate-flavored mixer because we're lazy drunks :rolleyes1

Wedding Cake Martini:

2 1/2 oz White Creme de Cacao
1 oz Vanilla vodka
1 1/2 oz pineapple juice

Shake and serve in a chilled glass! It tastes like heaven.

*hrrrmmmm* I have dark creme da caocao, vanilla vodka, and pineapple slices in a can. Can I jerryrig your recipe? Maybe I should do a test run tonight! :thumbsup2 Kinda sounds like a mudslide with pineapple juice would result, though... *hrmmm*

Thanks for the intoxication! :rotfl:

I don't recognize Jacqueline Carr, Katharine Kerr, Kate Forsyth, or George R.R. Martin.

Apologies.........

I made a mistake on one of the names. I should have said Jacqueline Carey, not Jacqueline Carr. D'oh.

:welcome:

Dave and Amy, a big warm welcome to our cruise thread and to DISboards themselves!! We're a busy bunch here with a lot of excitement. I hope we'll see you on here often. Your family respresents 110 DISer cabins and 330 DISers, family, and friends. :woohoo:

In the event you haven't made it through the previous 104 pages :rotfl: , we have a website created (which will be updated after our web hostess, brady961, returns from her Sept '07 cruise; link is in my signature block). I'm keeping track of all everyone and some of their key interests. Please feel free to check out Post 577 (linked in my signature) and if you desire, pass along any other news about your family that you may want to share!

Thank you for the restraint! Being a Yankee, it gets pretty old!

And what town are you from?

I must admit I've been guilty of the 'comment' in the past. On behalf of my fellow commenters, my apologies. I'm one of the few native North Carolinans in the area.

We live between Garner & Fuquay, out in the country. Well, what 'out in the country' there is left in Wake Co.

Go for it girl!! Give us a libations trip report afterwards!

Nothing wrong with a little experimentation! *grin*

We did a bit of experimentation ourselves last week while on vac at the beach. My fav though was the pre-mixed White Russian bottle we got a the ABC store before we went. Yummy! I did try mixing orange juice, pinapple 'juice', amaretto & rum. I think I got the rum a little heavy though & too much acid for my stomach w/both pineapple & OJ. The pinapple juice was homemade using a magic bullet - it ended up being a little stringy. Didn't bother me that much, but DH & the friends we were vacationing w/enjoyed raggin' me about it. After a few sips though, the pinapple strings didn't matter at all.

I think we may be taking a bottle of amaretto, kahlua, vodka &/or rum on the cruise as they mix pretty well w/many things.

DH had much fun making up his own receipes.....one had mint oreos, coffee, kahlua, baileys. I know there were others, but I don't remember them..........
