Double Check Your Waitlists!

I have a week booked in Sept-Oct for a BCV studio. I tried to get another for some friends, but it was unavailable. I was able to get a BWV studio instead with a day in the middle missing. I waitlisted for the missing day, and then I also waitlisted for BCV for the first three nights of the reservation thinking my friends may do a split stay. The BWV missing day came through so I had the whole week, but I kept checking the DVC website for the three days at BCV. I finally called, and was told that the BCV waitlist was cancelled when the one day I waitlisted for for BWV came through. Now I know if you waitlist for two resorts for the same day(s) and one comes through, the other is cancelled, but these were two seperate waitlists: one for 1 day at BWV, and one for 3 days at BCV. What if I had waitlisted for BCV for another party and never checked? I would never bave been on the waitlist. Just double check so you know what is going on!

Thanks for the information. The new system probably automatically cancels any wait list for that day. If they don't let us have individual day by day waitlists they should be able to deal with this type of situation. I have requested before that the existing waitlist not be cancelled if a match comes in. They did note it but I could definitely see this happening.

I have a ressie at AKV 29 Nov-04 Dec, I waitlisted VWL for the same dates and for 6 Dec - 11 Dec. When I requested the WL MS told me which ever dates come though first will cancel the other as well as my AKV. I am new so I assume this is normal:confused3

We shouldn't blame the new system for that. Auto cancel works as it is set up by the CM.

The waitlists could have been set up to keep the 3 day deal at BVC even after the 1 day at BWV came through. I suspect the OP and the CM just didn't understand each other.

I agree that it is a good idea to check that your waitlists were set up properly. I wish they appeared on the members' website so we could veriffy their accuracy without having to call MS/

It was on odd conversation with MS. I don't usually argue at all with them as I think they have a tough job and I subscribe to the "you get more flies with honey ..." philosphy. But having said that, it was a frustrating call. When I tried to set it up the waitlist again for the three BCV days, she wanted a name to list it under. I thought that was really odd--I've never had to do that for a waitlist before. When I told her it was for the same friends I got BWV for and I was trying to get them to BCV she said then she would automatically cancel the three days at BWV if it came in. I said I didn't want her to do that because I needed to explain the split stay thing to my friends and I was going to let them decide if they wanted to split stay if I can't get all BCV, or if they wanted to just stay put.

If I could eventually get the whole time at BCV I have some other friends who I had a conversation with about coming down. At the time there were no more rooms in the BW/BC area, so we let it go, but these friends would love to stay at BWV and I would offer them that room if the BCV room eventually came through. I am actually trying to get the whole week at BCV, but I don't want to waitlist it at one time because I think I have a better chance of getting the waitlist a few days at a time. And I don't want to mention that I'm trying to put this together to my other friends who would love to come down with all of us until I'm sure I can get another room, but now their name is on the waitlist bacause I have to give a name. I'm really not liking the new waitlist policies.

MS was right. If you are waitlisting for a room at BCV, they need a name under which to hold the waitlist. You tell them your friends name, so obviously if waitlist comes through for first 3 nights, MS will cancel 3 nights at BWV, since the names match.

Seems you actually want a separate reservation at BCV and to keep the BWV reservation. So you need a new reservation under the name of the person who will stay at BCV. Simple. If it's not available, you wait list for those 3 nights.

toesmom, yes, I do want both reservations, so that is what I ultimately did. I have waitlisted many times before for multiple rooms when we were taking other people. However, I was always allowed to waitlist under my own name. Granted, this was before all the waitlist changes, and I suspect giving a name to all reservations out of the shoot is to crack down on commercial renters from scooping up numerous desirable ressies, and I do get all that. But this just makes things difficult for the rest of us.
