Okay, here's the scoop on the member mixer at Doorway to Dreams in Chicago....

Basically, they talked about -

-Kidani officially opening May 1, 2009
- Grand Californian DVC
-Hawaii DVC to open 2011
-The new cruise ships beginning 2011
-New rule about booking your entire vacation on your check in
date at 7 or 11 months
-Other details we "Dis-ers" already know about

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the end of the presentation, the guide said someting like... "Many of you have been waiting for this (and he showed that famed picture of Cinderella's castle next to the CR).....There were many loud GASPS. He flipped up a picture of the new Wave restaurant. I (and many others) looked at the other guides in the room and they all started laughing KNOWINGLY for sure. It was an OBVIOUS admission/non-admission.

Also, FWIW, there will be a big anniversary event at Doorway to Dreams beginning the last few days of July and into the first few days of August. They said it will be a big event and some folks from Orlando will be in. I'm thinking they'd have to have announced BLT by then. It'd be a great opportunity for Doorway to cash in on alot of BLT sales all at once!!?? ;)

All true! We were there as well tonight and it was a fun time. They had an enthusiastic, friendly group attending and - much to their credit - didn't once delve into a sales pitch. It was an evening for the DVC "family" and everyone had that Disney grin on their faces. :)

yep, my family had a great time..the only bad thing was having to high tail it out of there as soon as they finished talking, as we had to head home to get our dog for her training class we do on thursday nights..

Another thing to mention was that they did all kinds of trivia type questions and gave away some different items. I got a cool picture from dvc's 15 yr. anniv., which I won by singing a few bars of a song (I panicked as to what to sing on the spur of the moment, so I went with the old stand by the "national anthem" - in retrospect, I should've done Part of your world from Little Mermaid..LOL

Can't wait for Jan 09 to try out the American Idol experience at hollywood studios!

also, after hearing about the new villas in CA, it made me want to plan a trip out west one of these summers with the family!

We will be coming back from the World at that time. Maybe we will need to make some adjustments from our planned route. Ideally something will be announced while we at SSR and can get a look at what was behind those closed doors.

I thought your singing was beautiful! Great job! I was in the front row with DS who has Down Syndrome he is the "owner" of our DVC.

We had a great time, the CM's are so sweet and helpful. Our other DS was accepted into the college program and they had lots of insight into that as well.

Can't wait for the next event!!

We were there also. That is how I learned of this site! We had a blast last night. I agree that your singing was beautiful. You did a great job.

LvsTnk, I remember seeing you there. We were sitting in the back row on that same side of the room. We were the ones who have had a DVC party with our friends.

awww, thanks for the nice compliments...singing was my passion/profession before I became a mom! LOL

that dvc party sounds really cool! what did you do - just invite some people over that you thought might be interested, or what? would love to hear more details!

We set it up with Derek. We gave them a list of several of our friends and family who might be interested in DVC. They sent the invitations. We booked our clubhouse and they brought food, drinks, prizes and such. Our friends and family loved it. The prizes were great and they even gave away free pins(like last night). The great part is that they don't push people they introduce it and that is it. They then talk to whoever is interested. I know that they will do one at the store if you are interested also. It really is fun.

Nice chatting with you outside the Disney store afterwards! It was a fun time!

I hope they have the next event on a weekend because my DH wishes he could have went. Darn job!:rotfl2: Guess we need to have money to pay for a vacations huh?:rotfl2:

Any way it was a lot of fun! I know the kids ahd fun too. My DD even said us adults were too loud! :scared1:

Looking foward to seeing you all at the next event!

Also a HELLO to some of the CM from DWTD that happen to check out this board:thumbsup2

We don't live far from Chi town, anyone know how to get on the list for the special events?

I'd love to know how to get the invite too! WE were invited last summer to the opening and had fun. I was out by Woodfield yesterday afternoon but didn't have time to crash the party( DH's bday). Hopefully if they have a party later this summer we'll get invited.

Hmm. . I am surprised they are still saying 2011. . since last I heard they had not even broken ground. But I would be very excited if this is still correct, although I would not bet on it!

That's still 3 years away - I think they will be OK for awhile yet. I'm sure they have a plan and have to spec & permit everything etc. etc.::yes:: The construction there should be pretty fast I would think (no winter weather delays or anything). We're planning to go again in 2011 so I have to have faith!:goodvibes
