Door knock “Checks” each day

Im more in the camp of ill call you if I need anything 🤣🤣 but hearing a cast members perspective does make me way more sympathetic about it as a former cast member and hotel employee, I definetely shouldn't even have questioned it for all the stuff I should have KNOWN they have to deal with. I will make sure to thank them next time
Yes and I LOVE when I get a knock. I use that time to ask for clean towels

Technically DVC doesnt get new towels everyday so I have never called to ask for them. We find that talking to housekeeping in person we always get anything and everything we need.

They always brought them for us thank God, but good to note that when they come would be a good time to ask!
 
Rented points from Davids, great experience all around, no issues with that, but it hurt paying $600 a night to stay at VGF on rented points in a studio so I was like DVC, sold!
Okay awesome they gave you what you needed. The no housekeeping/towels for DVC until after 4 days gave me serious pause about becoming a member (I love my clean towels that much)
 
As a former CM who did MANY room checks, the primary reason for the checks is human trafficking--it was even part of our CM training and onboarding. As much as guests find them annoying or aggravating, it's worse for CMs because they're the ones who have to put up with said annoyance and aggravation. For every 10 checks I made that went smoothly with no one in the room or nicely with guests in the room, all it took was one bad experience to put a damper on my day. After a time, I learned to just let the actions/comments of those more caustic guests to roll off my back, so to speak. However, I will say that almost no CM wants the duty of making room checks. It's just a thankless task. pirate:
I feel so bad for you. I guess it's because I once had a young man do my room check-housekeeping had called and asked if I needed any housekeeping. When I said "No", they reminded me that they had to do the room check. The poor kid who showed up looked terrified-I envisioned all the housekeepers sitting around, laughing and saying, "Let's send [whoever he was] to do it!" He asked me several times what he could get me, and when I finally remembered coffee, since I only drink the decaf, he seemed so relieved and brought me a big bag. So maybe whoever asked for towels actually helped them feel better.

Yes we requested during animal kingdom and ccv and no issue and I think I was driving ccv insane because I kept asking for an extra comforter and they didn't understand what I wanted, so they brought me something I didn't want like three times lolll.

We also would call for extra coffee, I didn't know that them not bringing towels was a possibility for dvc so I asked away 🤣🤣 The cast members at AKV and BLT were absolutely wonderful

one of the things I loved about VGF is that they kept towel/linen carts in the hallways 24/7 so you can grab what you needed. I've never seen that at any of the other DVC resorts but we really appreciated it during our stay!

I think one of the problems is that many people don't know that it happens daily and they do not tell them the reason why so it comes across as invasive and annoying.

If you ask why they don't tell you, which adds to the thought that they're just being nosy. Had I have known it was to potentially stop human trafficking, I would think this a worthy cause and not give any grief.
Agree wholeheartedly. When I was doing the checks, if I had a guest who hesitated or seemed agitated, I would immediately explain why and rarely did I have any issues after telling them. As with all things, there was still the occasional guest who was adamant that I couldn't enter. At that point, you turn it over to someone with a higher pay grade. :D

I knew they did these checks before our last trip in March, but when on vacation I didn't even realize that's what it was. They came to collect the trash and ask if we needed anything and were always so nice, we just thought of it as service.

Should you ask them for these things before they come or on the spot? I would hate for them to have to make two trips if avoidable

I didn't either I only realized when I told them we didn't need it and they said they had to come and then I started questioning why 🤣🤣 maybe informing guests at check in could alleviate some of the grief the cast members have to go through later

The issue with informing guests at check in is that some fraction of guests complete on-line check-in, get a text with their room number, and just go directly to their room without visiting the front desk. We are usually in this group. On the other hand, we have no problem with the daily room check and actually stage our trash containers near the door when we leave for the parks, knowing the CM will have an easier time emptying them that way.
 
If they can't get in because you have wisely locked the door from the inside and you are in the bathroom and can't possibly get to the door to answer their knock, they will call you and set up a time to come to your room.
