Door decorating question

I would like to decorate the door of our stateroom and have seen that you basically can't use anything but a magnet. My question is if I applied a magnet(s) to say a large stand-up cutout would that be acceptable? Any rules against that? Also I know that most stateroom doors are narrower that resort doors but would a 33 inch wide stand-up be too wide?

I believe standard staterooms have a 23" doorway. Accessible staterooms will have an entrance at least 32" wide.

Enjoy your cruise!

Also, using something that would fill the whole door would block the peephole, probably. As well as the room number. The door is not flat. You'd need a lot of magnets to hold it up on most ships, as the paint on the doors can be fairly thick and magnets don't always stick real well.

From the FAQ sticky:
Door Demensions - 27" wide, 6 1/2' high, 3" deep

Thank you, didn't think to take into consideration the door not being flat, or the multiple layers of paint. Thanks for that save! I was thinking we have two staterooms and doing a 3 1/2 foot tallish mickey and minnie stand-up may have been different but maybe I'll see what other ideas I can come up with... only have about 100 days to do it though.

Please remember: safety comes first. Those magnets need to be super strong - if this cutout falls it could cause someone to be injured, or block access to safety in a fire...

Having said that, can you xerox the standup, and tape those sheets together to adhere to the door? Something to think about...

They weren't the huge card board strong ones, I know my description made it sound that way but I don't know I'd be ale to get that in a suitcase anyway. ;-) What I was thinking is like large poster cut in the shape, so it would be kind of like hanging a copy so to speak. That being said though, the PP had a point I would either need a lot of magnets or have it converted to one large one. Time to move to a different idea I guess.

We did something similar to this...I got the cutouts and then sort of "snowman assembled" it. I cut the head out, the arms, the legs, body, gloves and shoes separately and laminated each one...then I put magnets on each one and placed them on our door.

If you printed whatever it is out in pieces it would work. Like if you did Mickey you could print feet and cut out. Legs and cut out. Shorts and cut out and so on. Once you get there you just put all the pieces up.

We took a cardboard Sully from Monster's University (Mike wouldn't fit in the luggage). I got it from a movie theater. I added lots of strong magnets to the back. He got hung up on the wall next to our door. Our room host happened to come by as I was decorating our door and he told me I could decorate the walls next to the door.

Everyone loved him. As a matter of fact, someone loved him so much, they took him home with them w/o permission.
