I was confused too. No where in the video does it not say to not call them pets.

OP are you saying that horses shouldn't have owners?

Edit: Oh, OK...I see you answered above why you don't want them called pets. I guess in my mind pets can be family members one and the same.

*sigh* I apologize if I am unclear. This horse gets a life because of the love and care. He wasnt, just a horse. My point is, treat them as family, not as pets.

My horse and my dog are my pets. I love them very much and take great care of them, but they aren't my children. I hold my children in higher esteem then I do my animals.

That was a wonderful video. So glad they rescued that precious little horse! I can't stand cruelty to poor defenseless animals!

BTW, I have kids, dogs, cats: 2 boys, 2 girls, 1 dog, 2 cats. Love them all, but my dog and cats are pets.

I used to think this way. Then I got married and had children. And I realized that there's a huge difference between a "fur baby" and a real baby.

I respect and love my animals. I take my responsibilities toward them extremely seriously. I would go into debt for them. Heck, I was giving my elderly cat subcutaneous fluids and carrying her to the litter box and creating music lists for her and hand feeding her by the end. But that doesn't change the fact that they ARE "pets". They're not people, and my dog especially wouldn't appreciate being treated like a human being - it'd just confuse her and make her anxious.

And when push comes to shove, I will always put the welfare of my human family before that of my pets. In the event of a fire, we save the kids, each other, my mother-in-law and any other humans in the house. We leave the doors open for the cats and we call the dog. But we don't risk our lives for them. Because I will not orphan my children or make a widower of my husband, just to try and save my pets.

But all that said... I'm TOTALLY in favour of prosthetic legs for ponies!

I too, don't see anything wrong with the word "pet". I have had many dogs over the years, loved them all dearly and considered them part of the family, but I still call them pets.

Who said I compared them? They are not pets, they are family members.

You all have really taken this off base. So many wish to criticize. Lets just start over shall we.

in the meantime, they are pets. and I do have (and had) many dogs, cats, and a bird.

The bad part about pets is that they do not live as long as most humans, so even though they are "family members", in the end, you have to do the right thing for them when the time comes.

you don't do that with humans. so the animals are pets.

besides, did you notice that when people start to really treat their pets as human, they sometimes end up on reality t.v. shows or the evening news, and not in a good way?

I didnt get that impression at all. The OP actually said lets start over and just enjoy the clips for what they are. Maybe its you thats looking for a fight.

It shouldnt matter what others consider to be family. In case it hasnt been considered - some people cant have children and pets fill that void.

Thanks for sharing the clips - I enjoyed them. Seeing that pony take off running was so sweet.
