Don't Tell Me How To Eat Donuts! 21 DAYS OF FOOD: Updated with 13 NEW Reviews!! 01/31

Earl of Sandwich

Disclaimer: I'd like to apologise in advance for the world's worst photos - I just couldn't get a good photo and if I used the flash it lit up the place (we were sat outside) - They do get better. Honestly.

We'd just arrived at POFQ, unpacked, and caught a bus down to DTD. The weather was horrible, rainy and dreary - quite a difference from when we arrived in sunny Florida last year. I'd decided not to book an ADR on this night, as I knew we'd be tired after travelling, wouldn't be too bothered about a sit down meal, and our TS credit could be better saved for another night. This, and the fact that I'd been drooling over the Earl of Sandwich menu for ages.

Earl of Sandwich had quite a long queue when we went in, but it went down fairly fast. There were no inside tables left, but plenty outside - so since it had stopped raining and it was still a warm night, we decided to sit out. This was my first time in EoS so I wasn't quite sure how it worked. If I remember correctly (and I might not!) You order your sandwich at the first till, you move along the counter collecting any drinks/snacks/desserts you might want along the way, then at the other till you pay for all your stuff including the sandwiches. Then, to the right, you wait for your number to be called out for your sandwiches. I was totally unsure of what to do!

I knew what I was going to have - I'd studied the menu! It was the Florentine - Grilled Chicken, Creamed Spinach, Mushrooms and Parmesan Cheese. I have a newfound love for spinach. I got to the till, and I couldn't see it anywhere on the menu! It was gone! Argh! I had suddenly become one of those people who stand at the till when it's their turn umming and ahhing over the menu!

I quickly found the other sandwich that I had wanted - thank goodness! The Caprese - Fresh Mozzarella, Roma Tomato, Fresh Basil & Drizzled Balsamic Vinaigrette

Bad photo!

Oh my goodness! This sandwich was amazing! I was kinda glad in a way that the Florentine wasn't there! This is my favourite appetizer in an Italian restaurant and it was soooo good in sandwich form! It was just warm and it was perfect - the bready was lovely and fresh and the filling was so so good! Really happy with my choice and I am wishing I had one of those right now!

DF went with the Hawaiian BBQ - Grilled Chicken, Roasted Ham, Hawaiian BBQ Sauce, Aged Swiss Cheese & Fresh Pineapple

DF liked this sandwich - he likes BBQ and pineapple on stuff. I asked him what he thought and he said 'NOM' - I guess that means he likes it! (:teeth: those of you who like lolcats will get nom!)

We also got 2 brownies (?) with our food - we took these back to the hotel with us and I'm not sure we ate them to be honest:

They looked nice though!

WOULD WE EAT HERE AGAIN? Oh my gosh yes! I absolutely loved my sandwich, I want one now! It's going to be our first meal when we go back in 2010 :teeth:

Thanks for posting Hayley. I loved your last trip report and have been watching for this one to get rolling. Eagerly awaiting the rest!

Goofy's Candy Co. Snack

On the way back from DTD, we stopped off at Goofy's Candy Co for some treats. I wanted a DIY one like I'd done last year but I was so tired by the time we got here I just wanted to get back and crash!

We ended up buying some pretzel rods - you get 3 of these with the toppings you want for a snack credit - bargain right?! We decided to get these already 'rolled' and get back to POFQ.
img1976ri8.jpg

We decided to get one covered in crushed peanut butter cups, one in milk chocolate chips, and one in white chocolate chips. White one not pictured as Els got peckish on the way back  We snacked on these a couple of days later.

WOULD WE EAT HERE AGAIN? I love Goofy's Candy Co and I think it's a good use of snack credits. You can also buy bottles of Coke, etc. here for a snack credit - maybe not the best use, but great on a boiling day when you've just come back from the outlets and don't have any cash on you! I especially love the peanut butter stuff!

Hey Hayley . . . its strange you have updated today! I was only thinking of you this morning as I was creating this years itinerary cards!!!

Great updates - I love Goofys!

You will have to post a link to your wedding / planning journal if you have one! I got married at the Wedding Pavillion and it was perfect - you will have a lovely time.

Ooh already looking forward to your trip report Sonya! I've been neglecting the food board, I even missed Brenda's October trippie :scared1: but am catching up now!

My PJ can be found HERE, although there isn't very much of it yet. I'm just in the middle of uploading my Save the Date pics, which should be up in the next 30mins or so :goodvibes

We're also getting married at the Wedding Pavilion! Hoping to feed our guests at the Grand Floridian :) What's the best thing about a small wedding?! Why, more money to spend on the food! ;) I love your Commander's Terrace pic, I asked my WC about using the Terrace for our pre-reception, but it's for Escape weddings only, we can't use it even if there isn't an Escape wedding on! I think it's really pretty up there!

Its embarrassing to answer this quickly as if I have nothing better to do today! But I am off work sick and trip reports are cheering me up!:rotfl2:

I am dying to know what you thought of the cruise part - we have booked our 2nd one already and haven't been on the first one yet!!!! Lets hope I'm not an undiagnosed sea-sick!

Ohh the Pavillion - you are going to have the best time! Now going to go sub to your journal!

Oh, and I want to say "hi" to my real-life DISer friend, Punkin

hi!!! :wave2: so glad to see you on here! i was getting worried. ;) can't wait to read all about your food experiences.

by the way, you guys just made your appearances in my TR! if you want to see it, it's the one linked below in yellow and black- the vandy girls TR. it's the last update we did. it's on page 70. erica hasn't updated the index so it's not linked there.

i had what els ordered at EoS and i LOVED it too! i want to go back there for sure.

Hi punkin! I'm going to go over there and check it out now! We should've taken a photo, but I was so surprised to see you at the table next to us! What a coincidence! Especially as I'd just rang the night before for an available ADR! Cue It's A Small World After All :teeth:

Sonya... we LOVED the Cruise! I only felt sea-sick one night, in particularly rough waters as we had just missed the path of one of the number of hurricanes that went Bahamas-Florida last summer! I bought some Dramamine in the POFQ shop before we went, and there's some on the ship too, and I was fine. Best thing, it's non-drowsy! The 1st night felt funny as you felt a bit drunk with the rocking of the boat, but our servers laughed and said it happens to everyone and we soon found our sealegs! I took my travelbands as well as I'm not the best of travellers

We loved it so much more than we thought we would and didn't want to leave! I was eagerly awaiting the Med cruises and we had to go and plan our silly wedding  Maybe next time! I'm so jealous, you'll love it. Castaway Cay is amazing. We spent the day at Serenity Bay in the sea :)

Do you have facebook by any chance?

Do you have facebook by any chance?

Oh yes I am - wanna be friends?!:rotfl2: I will PM you my name in a sec! I have loads of wedding pictures on mine . . . do you have any cruise ones!?

I forgot you were staying at POFR - what did you think? By the time we decided we could afford to upgrade from Pop to there this year it was full with our travel agents so we have gone for PO Riverside . . . see it from the other side!

We loved POFQ! Really nice resort and we'd definitely stay there again! I think we're going to choose it as our Moderate for our room block!!

I almost forgot! I want to bow down and kiss your feet, for introducing me to the wonder that is... Magic Cookie Bar!!

Yay - you and Els are back! :goodvibes Have fun wedding planning :bride: Looking forward to your next update popcorn::

PS: We LOVED EoS too - we had breakfast there on our last day at WDW and it was delish!

Aww thanks Lisa! I could totally eat the Caprese now!

Ooooooooh yes! It's still as good! I tried to recreate it when I came back, but binned the lot as it was rubbish :( Mail me one

Snap! Disney sent me the recipe but I'm sure they left a vital ingredient out!!! The bin was well fed that day!

Thank you, thank you for the lovely comments!!

I know about the MC Bar right?!! And it's not fair that they only sell them at POR!

Kona Cafe (Breakfast)

We'd already eaten here for dinner last year, and loved it - breakfast sounded really nice, so we thought we'd give it a try on our first morning in the World. Set us up for the day! We figured we'd be up early anyway, so we went for an early breakfast - turns out we just missed the first bus to MK by about 5mins and had to wait AGES for the next. We were very late for our ADR, but the CMs were really nice and seated us quickly with no problems as the restaurant was fairly quiet.

Els at Kona Cafe

For drinks, I got the Lilikoi Juice (Passion fruit, orange and guava blend) as I love tropical juice, and Els got the Kona Blend Coffee. I thought it would come in a french press, but I guess you have to pay extra for that.

Drinks

The Lilikoi was really good and tasted very fresh. I would get addicted to this over the course of the vacation!

For mains, we both went for the Big Kahuna: French toast, Macadamia-Pineapple pancakes, eggs your way, home fried potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage - it was excellent! We were both starving at this point, what with travelling and the time difference and it really hit the spot!

I got my eggs scrambled with cheese, and Els got his sunny side up:

The pancakes were to die for, they were so, so good! Someone recommended I try the eggs like this, and they were awesome (anything laden with cheese is good in my book!). I loved the breakfast potatoes and the sausage was lovely - I'm not a big sausage person! Bacon and ham, again, very good - I ate a piece of french toast without realising there was cinnamon on it! D'oh! I hate cinnamon and could really taste it on the next piece, so that was the only bad point for me... but that's nothing to do with Kona.
