DON'T Read This TRIP REPORT If You're a Princess Hater!

We got lots of pictures in ToonTown in January. No rides, you'll find out why when I get that far inn my TR, but we all made sure to grab our memories.

We didn't get the do Thunder Railroad this last either, hopefully in Sept we can hit the couple rides we missed.

I LOVE the Mary Poppin's pictures! She is my FAVORITE!

Now, do you just create the dresses as you go, or do you follow a pattern? Like, I can sew, and hopefully, I'll be a Stay at home mom after this second one comes... so perhaps I'll have time to get back into sewing. I would LOVE to make Cortlyn a Jolly Holiday dress! I would have to work my way back up to it- but I did take Home Ec all four years in high school, so I actually have some skills packed away in the back of my mind!

12/16/10 Continued

We finished up on the Carousel around 9:30. Perfect timing!

A sign of an excellent Trip Report is when you are on the 3rd post full of pictures and it's only 9:30am of the day's report! Beautiful pictures of Mary Poppins and the carousel. I bet you were excited to check that one off your list of wishes. :cool1:

Since we were in WDW the same week I can definitely relate to not wanting to get near Splash Mountain on those chilly days :) Great photos from Frontierland and Liberty Square. The Frontierland Donald and Goofy are both on my wish list for character meet-and-greets.

Glad your computer is fixed and thanks for posting the excellent update! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your magical day. My guess is you hopped on the monorail to GF . . .

Just joining - I'm hoping to do a girl's only trip with my daughter this December so this will be perfect! I've been around the Dis for awhile and know how beautiful all the dresses you make are - so I can't wait to see those as well!

Well, if it's not a word, it SHOULD be......... especially on THIS thread! :cool1:

Time for your official..........

:welcome:

Stay tuned........... lots more to come!

I was going to tell you guys to stay tuned to see if we find our very favorite Fairy Godmother........... but since I posted her photo at the beginning of the thread........... :rotfl2: I guess that cat's out of the bag!

Ready for another walk down memory lane?

Here's our history with the Fairy Godmother:

We took our first mother/daughter trip to Disney in January 08. Since I like to make gowns, I figure the Fairy Godmother and I are sort of alter egos. So I always make sure we find her on each trip. This time, I decided to make Katie her very own Fairy Godmother costume. And I'm PRETTY sure the Fairy Godmother doesn't see many of those! :rotfl2: Then after pictures as the Fairy Godmother, Katie took off the cape for pictures in the Cinderella costume she had on underneath. Fun interaction, memorable pictures, but no more than 3 or 4 minutes.

So 11 months later........... we return to Disney and of course must see the Fairy Godmother again. I was surprised to find the same Fairy Godmother, so we got in line. Then she amazed us both by matter of factly telling Katie how much she had grown and asked where her Fairy Godmother costume was this trip! WOW! She's good! Now granted, we were pretty "conspicuous" with Katie wearing that Fairy Godmother costume and all... but we had only seen her for a few minutes 11 months prior. I chalk it up to pure magic! :wizard:

fg08dec.jpg

So fast forward another 9 months and we show up again. And of course, as I said before...... we never miss the Fairy Godmother. We were excited to see it was that same one and got in line. She asked how we were........ I was prepared to try and remind her who we were...... but didn't need to. She asked us what we were doing there in September in the heat since we usually come in the winter! :worship: Man, she's good!

fg09.jpg

So needless to say, we looked forward to finding her on this trip again. We saw her several times and it added SO much to the trip for us! And we now refer to her as our "very own Fairy Godmother". :goodvibes Pure Disney magic I tell you! :wizard:

Getting caught up - had to say - we met this Fairy Godmother in Oct. 2009 - she was great!

Well, it's not like there are THAT many rides in Toontown to start with! But now you've piqued my interest to find out why!

I really wanted to do more night photography in the Magic Kingdom. I had really wanted to do some tripod night shots of Mickey & Minnie's houses all done up in Christmas lights. But I kept holding out for shots later in the night with no people in them, and we always got too cold to stay out any later. Note to self: Take the shot, handheld at high ISO if needed....... just to be sure and get the shot. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good enough....... Take the bird in the hand..... You get the idea.

I was really surprised when we got home and I started to tally up how many rides we had completely skipped on this trip! We had the most time ever in the Magic Kingdom, but we left the most things ever on the table. Part of it was our character stalking.......errrrr...... hunting.......... but I chalk a lot of it up to the weather.

It really wasn't a huge deal though. Our trip last summer to Disneyland had been VERY ride centered. The entire family was along and we used give a day fastpasses. So we did TONS of rides.

I LOVE the Mary Poppin's pictures! She is my FAVORITE!

Thank you! Mary will always hold a soft spot in my heart. We had a 33 album of the soundtrack when I was a kid and loved the music even then. Katie and I have watched the movie countless times. Maybe I should say SHE has seen the movie countless times. I have seen the first 10 minutes of the movie countless times! I usually don't last long once I sit down in the evening to watch a movie! But I'm pretty sure I've seen the WHOLE movie at least a couple of times! :rotfl2:

I start all of my costumes with SOME sort of pattern. Then I "Frankenpattern". I find a pattern with the right sleeve, one with the right cut to the skirt, one with the right neckline. I think that green Tiana gown is the only one I've done completely on my own without a commercial pattern.

And congrats on becoming a SAHM. I've done it all in an effort to be home with the kids as much as possible. I worked full-time outside the home when the boys were little. Then I worked outside the home part-time. I've worked at home. I always feel like I'm sort of piecing it all together. And what works today may not work tomorrow. But this I know. They are only little for SUCH a short time. And it goes WAY too fast.

LOL! I appreciate that! I was hoping I wasn't overloading on the photos! :rotfl2:

Many thanks for the kind comments on the photos!

And yes, I was happy to mark "Mary at the carousel" off of my Disney "to-do" list. It feels good to mark more things off, but honestly, it's getting kind of short. I need to scheme up some new ideas! Of course, there's always that desire of mine to be family of the day at the Magic Kingdom..... :rolleyes1 Someone started a thread today on their experience as FOTD recently. One of the posters said they had been chosen TWICE! :rolleyes1 Imagine that....... Oh........ and the OP...... had gotten there early with the express plan of trying to be chosen. Imagine that..........:rolleyes1 :lmao:

As for Splash Mountain........ that Thursday was much warmER, but I still wouldn't classify it as "WARM". On our way to Thunder Mountain, we watched empty boat after empty boat come down the mountain........ Neither of us was even tempted. Of course, we planned on staying out until after the Christmas Party that night, so neither of us wanted to take a chance on a drenching!

I'm really glad to have the computer back to full strength again! It's 7 years old, so it's not perfect, but I really just wanted to be back where I was. So far so good........ (knock wood!)

And how intuitive of you....... we were indeed planning to hop on the monorail and head for the Grand Floridian!

Just joining - I'm hoping to do a girl's only trip with my daughter this December so this will be perfect! I've been around the Dis for awhile and know how beautiful all the dresses you make are - so I can't wait to see those as well!

December is usually MUCH milder in temps than what we experienced. I'm sure you'd have an awesome time!

Getting caught up - had to say - we met this Fairy Godmother in Oct. 2009 - she was great!

Isn't she wonderful!

If any of you see her on an upcoming trip, tell her Katie and Janet say HI! :cheer2:

LOVE this!!!

Okay... this tunnel is the bane of my existance! :headache:

I went to WDW with my parents in '98 and we decided to go for evening EMH (back when you had to pay for it...) and we got stuck on Space for 45 min just out of this tunnel. On the 45* incline. I had so much blood running to my tush that I was surprised I could walk once we did get moving. Someone dropped a bouncy ball (that we found out later) on the track and CMs we were walking the track looking for the reason for the stoppage. It was like looking for a needle in a stack of needles!

One cool thing about it (besides the CM's attitudes) was being able to ride Space with the lights on. Everyone else bailed (no line since the ride was offline) and they said they weren't going to bother throwing the switch! :rotfl: After seeing all that track in there I duck when I ride it now.

Janet, I'm a bit lucky your computer went on the fritz. I thought I was going to be light years behind this morning (been on spring break). I'm glad to return to a ton of more fantastic photos and all the lovely shots of Katie and Mary Poppins!

Great update! My oldest dd wants to be Vidia at the Halloween party next year, so I am booking marking this page so I can find enough patterns to put together to make her costume!

Love how the skirt matched each princess! I hope to take a girls only trip one day and love reading about yours!

OK, so is it weird that I think it would be cool to see Space Mountain like that? But I wonder how on EARTH they even KNEW someone had dropped the bouncy ball?

Happy to obilge with the computer problems. :lmao: You can thank Jen though. We were waiting for her to get back! :rotfl:

Many thanks for the kind comments on the photos! I always thought Mary belonged back by the carousel. I'm glad we finally found her there. Heck, I thought they should have renamed it to be the Mary Poppins Carousel. But I guess maybe that wouldn't let them count that as a boy attraction in Fantasyland! :rotfl2: Hey, maybe they could have named it the Bert Carousel?????

Good luck with Vidia! I've done a couple of fairy costumes, but not a true replica yet. I hope at least my Vidia photos can help you. We had a ball with her in Pixie Hollow!

As you can tell, I'm a huge fan of the mother/daughter bonding trip. I hope you get to take one soon! :goodvibes

They didn't know it was a bouncy ball until they found it.

They had to walk the track and reset each sensor and had trouble finding the culprit.

Finally one of the CMs found it wedged near a piece of track and we were on our way.

It was cool to see, but like I said, I can't sit upright on that ride anymore... I'm afraid my head will come off! :lmao:

Makes sense now!

I saw a still photo of the ride once with the lights on, so I know what you mean. I sort of hesitate putting my arms up over my head.....:scared1:

It's an awesome ride though. Katie and I ended up doing it 3 times on this trip. That alone made this trip different from our other mother/daughter trips when we had to bypass all the thrill rides.

One of my great Disney memories though is riding Space Mountain with my now 16 year old son. He's always SO cautious and for years he sat out all the thrill rides. Last summer at Disneyland he kept pushing us back over to Tomorrowland to do Space Mountain over and over.

Another reason I'm so excited about this report is that we always stay at Pop Century :thumbsup2 My daughter was reading it with me and now she loves Tiana's blue dress that you made Katie and she was telling me "Mom, it wouldn't be that hard to make" LOL I am so not a sewer!

We really like the Pop Century. We're never in the room much, so don't want to invest any in our resort selection. But when we are there, we still feel the Disney spirit!

Good luck with the blue gown! :thumbsup2 Hope I didn't cause trouble for you! Honestly though, Katie and I both loved it from the first time we saw it in the movie. I don't know why they don't sell a version of it at Disney. I know I sure would have preferred to BUY a blue tiara instead of making it. I had all sorts of trouble with that!

I'm so crazy - I don't even know that we are going and I just put a bid in on this dress :lmao: It is pretty close!

Janet......is it just me? about half of the pictures form the last 3 posts are showing up. I just get the box with the red x. I'll try another browser and see.

can't see them in another browser either. Darn it.
I'll check back tomorrow then. I can't read if I can't see the pictures. LOL!

Joy, so nice to see you back on the boards....did those dang owls grow up and leave? :rotfl: I love that blue dress you are bidding on. If Claire was that size I might have to compete. :rolleyes1

Photobucket was doing some maintenence, but IDK if that's what Janet uses.

Maybe try again today?

Thanks for the welcome back!! Lol on the owls, I still am watching some owl cams, I'm just not quite as addicted as last spring! I am considering a trip though, so that has brought me back.

Yeah, that dress is so pretty! Even if we don't use it on a trip, I'm sure we can find someplace to wear it.

I have to agree with Jen...... it's a gorgeous dress! And it's very close to the blue Tiana gown. What a great find! :thumbsup2

Jen, which post number are you having trouble with? Is it just the recent ones? Can you look back at some of the earlier ones and see if you're having trouble? I'm not having any trouble with them. :confused3

I use firefox and they are showing up for me.

I use Flickr and don't really know what the problem would be. Can some others tell me if they're having trouble, and which post numbers are the problems?

I seem to be pretty hexed with things not working lately. The computer, the a/c in the car....... and now the washer is broken. Really. This is no longer funny......... OK...... so it was NEVER funny........ but you get my point! :lmao:
