Don't Laugh -- How does YoaMD work?

I've seen commercials on TV but this is our first visit to WDW and I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know much about the Year of a Million Dreams except for some people win some cool stuff unexpectedly.

Is there a thread on the basics of this cool promotion? Do we need to know or do anything to participate? My husband, stepson (age 9) and I would love to learn more...I've spent a lifetime waiting to get to WDW and experiencing something unique like this at the parks would be incredible.

In the parks, it's just getting lucky and being in the right place at the right time. The time and place for YOMD prizes to be awarded is randomly selected by a computer.

The whole thing is automated. A computer tells where castmembers need to go in the parks and what prize they will be giving out, and those castmembers don't know until just a bit before their assignment.

It's all about being in the right place at the right time.

I go just about every weekend and I've only won 1 dream FP so going often is not a guarantee that you'll win something. I've never seen anyone being awarded something either. To me, YoaMD has been pretty much a non event, nothing special....but that's not why we go.

Maybe you will win something and make your trip super special.

Thanks for the information! I was just curious, really. Our family is really considering this trip — our first trip to WDW —our dream! Anything else is just icing on the cake...
