We are flying into Sandford airport and have never done so. We were gonna hire a car to pick us up and take us back as ME doesn't do Sandford, we are gonna be staying at SSR and I am wondering with the size of SSR if maybe we should just rent a car, and if we do rent a car, can that be done at Sandford. Any past experience with this?

I have no experience with SSR. I think it all depends on what location you get. I would phone reservations and put in a room request close to main ammenities. We've always used WDW transportation. Personally I find it works pretty well.

Personally I prefer to rent a car. If its in the budget, I would go for it. Its then available for you to shop, or even drive to parks if you decide too. Remember > free parking at all parks just show your room / car paper to booth. Its up to you how much you choose to use it. I will warn you, once we started renting a car > we always now rent. You become spoiled. 1 less line to stand in.
Also we have stayed at SSR and found the buses a little slower there.

We usually fly into Sanford airport 70% of the time we vacation at Disney. Renting a car at the airport will not be an issue. Several of the major car rental car companies are there. No need for a shuttle, just walk out the door and cross the pedestrian walkway. It is usually 45 mins to an hour to the Disney resorts from the airport.

I always prefer to rent a car and use that instead of disney transportation. This way we can make a grcocery stop and eat out when we so desire.

We've stayed at SSR a couple of times-great resort! I would definitely rent a car. If you happen to get a building far from the Carriage House, it can be a very far walk. In the summertime, it gets very hot!!

I just wanted to mention, too, that if you choose to make ADRs at other resorts (which is part of the fun of Disney to me), it's much easier to get to those dining spots with your own car.
