I heard a rumor a week or 2 ago that a neighbor's house is in foreclosure. They have dogs (one big one, in an investigation for biting...haven't seen it recently though) and one or 2 yappers (never, ever see them...just hear it/them yapping sometimes).

Anyway, over the weekend, we saw a truck pull up across the yard, right to the front door, to load furniture and take it out of the house. It did this several times.

Yesterday and today, no curtains or anything. ALL gone. But I have been hearing "Yap Yap Yap Yap Yap" continuously for most of the day so far. While it is frying my nerves in a big way, I am pretty concerned for these dogs/this dog.

What would you do? I already went over and knocked, nobody there and the house looks pretty cleaned out. I don't know if I should call someone, so the authorities (whoever that would be) can get the dog(s) out. But what if the neighbor is just busy setting up a new home, and will come back for the dog(s) tomorrow or something?!

I am leery of this situation because I saw the aftermath of a house where the people left the animals behind. It was ugly...and way too late before anyone discovered what had happened.

I would watch the house closely this evening. Hopefully, they will be back for the dogs. Do any neighbors know them well enough to know where they have gone?

I'd agree with giving it a day to see if anyone comes back... and then calling Animal Control (or the Humane Society - whoever has jurisdiction over enforcing animal welfare in your area) to report the dogs as abandoned.

I watch Animal Cops on Animal Planet all the time (what? I have an 11 week old baby and I'm home all day! :lmao:) and they are always dealing with issues of abandoned pets when the owners move and leave their animals. Some of the cases have been horrific.... I wouldn't want to leave the animals for more than a couple days before calling the authorities.

Call animal control control and let them know what you know. They can investigate and make the call.

It's *possible* that this is legitimate. Maybe they didn't want the dogs underfoot while they set up the new house. But I'd call Animal Control and report it so they're aware, and I'd keep an eye on things tonight and tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. I didn't see anyone arrive at the neighbors house, I can't see their driveway. But I don't hear any dogs anymore. I hope someone came back.

For the sake of the dogs, please don't just "hope someone came back." Make the call to Animal Control anyway. They'll send an officer to check to be sure.

If the dogs were yapping all that time, they may have just given up and are now lying forlornly on the floor somewhere in the house. It would be better to call Animal Control and have them check and find nothing than to hope that the dogs have been picked up and find out later that they starved to death in the house.

You can report it anonymously, if you're worried that AC will be upset if you call and there are no dogs. But please ... call!

:earsboy:

Please call! and :thumbsup2 good job paying attention!!! A lot of people wouldn't have bothered.:sad2:

I'd definitely give AC a call!! Even if the neighbor gets upset with you...they're moving, so it's not like you'll have to deal with them for long ;)

I would call animal control and tell them what you told us. They will investigate.

Good poimt, all. Called the city today to ask about a number for Animal Control. Apparently we don't have one?! So I told them what is up. The PD knows this house (due to other issues from time to time, some involving the big dog's biting habit). They will check periodically. They think if the dog is still in there, it will bark when someone knocks even if it's given up the all-day yapping. PRobably true.

Whew.

Your situation would bother me so much if it happened to me.

Do you have a local SPCA? I bet if you call a Vets office they could help you find animal volunteers who could help you because they tend to be up on the law.
