If you do not get your room request, it does not hurt to ask if they may happen to have them available when you check in. I was originally placed on the 2nd floor at AoA so I ask them if they happen to have the ground floor available in the LM rooms and they did!

Sometimes they will have your request available and sometimes not. But just ask nicely. It may pay off.

we were able to do the same thing at BLT but I think you have to ask before you enter the room cause they asked me a bunch of times if we had entered the room yet.

Right. Well I got my room ready text around the time we landed in MCO, so I knew they had us on the 2nd floor. So I was going to ask and see if they had any ground floor rooms available. If they didn't I would have been OK on the 2nd floor.

Yes!!! If you get your room text and it is not really what you wanted, it doesn’t hurt to ask. I did this our last trip to YC and they gave me the best garden view. To me it was a water view but listed as garden/woods. First room would have been just trees in front of the balcony. Also pre-Covid we had a terrible view at AKL. We did enter the room and it was a weird closed off balcony with a view of the roof. I went to the desk and they could actually see the room views on their screen. They moved us to a partial savannah room!

Definitely!

We have done this dozens of times over the years and the Room Assignors always try their best.

Sometimes there is just nothing they can do,but I would say that in all the times our Room Request wasn't initially filled, they were able to fill it about 80 % of the time after we politely asked if they could check again.

WDW Room Assignors ROCK!!!! :)

Right. They do what they can. I generally love the ground floor rooms at the value/moderate resorts. Don't want to deal with an elevator.

You can still request a room change after you enter the room.

The reason they ask if you have entered the room is because if they do find you another room,Housekeeping has to go back and check the original room to make sure nothing has been "disturbed" that would make it not in perfect condition for the Guest that will end up with that room.

So it definitely helps them tremendously not to enter the room, but is not a "deal breaker".

idk if with covid issues that changed or not.

I don't think it has. We were at Riviera last month. Got the room ready text. Entered room with luggage cart of luggage. Realized we wanted to ask for something else. Went to the front desk and inquired. Wife was still in the room with the luggage cart. Told the castmember when she asked. Got a new room no problem.

Is that a DVC thing? I thought I'd heard that on here before.

I do imagine that they have a lot more inventory available now than normal. So the ability to change it up could be really great. But them not putting down ground floor as a room request is why I did go to the front desk.
