Don't be afraid of your budget, join the October No Buy!

Wich Kmart was closer to us!! It's about 45 minutes from here, not worth the drive for the layaway.

Good deal on the toys though!

I'm hoping for a no buy day today, I just need to convince hubby to eat lunch at home.

You can do it Buffy!

I used to be a shopaholic. I used to buy clothes just because they were cheap or buying more food than I could eat just because I wanted to try it or buying books because they were being sold for $10 each that I haven't had time to read.

It used to be so bad that at some points in my university life, I had no money in my account and would be afraid of being able to pay rent and my tuition.

I've gotten a lot better now and the No Buy thread as helped me SO MUCH. It makes me more accountable for my purchases and I've gotten such great support from the people on these boards. I no longer buy clothes just because they're on sale and if I need something that can wait, I just wait for a sale. I'm so proud of the way I'm controlling my spending now.

Ally, you're not alone

This was so hard, really even for just this week. I have to go to Walmart at one point to get soap and some nesasary items

I have done this the last 2 months and fallen off the wagon about 3/4 of the way through. I am not even going to attempt it this month because we are going to Disney the last week of the month. I know my budget will be all out of whack this month. I will definitely be back in next month though. You know to start saving for my next disney trip.

We're still at WDW but starting Monday, we will be back in our routine and no buy October!

1/10 no buy days
28/150 eat out
110/400 grocery budget
40/300 gas
yeah I no buy day!!!!

Ugh, day 5 and zero no buy days.
But I did get all my bills paid and caught up on a few things so those aren't hovering over my head anymore. WOOHOO!!
And I actually have some $$ left over for the next 2 weeks, the key is to make sure I make it last!

The only major thing I need to buy right now is jeans for DS11 and 10. We are doing that this weekend. But since they wear uniforms 5 days a week, I'm only going to buy 3 pair each right now.

Need to see if 77 is having a sale, haven't seen an email from them in a while.
Also need to get the boys their birthday gifts but I found my 5% off Target reward and I have $10 in gift cards so I should spend next door to nothing for those.

I haven't done this in awhile, but I may try again for Oct. So far, the 1st and 4th have been no buy days and I'm hoping to add today to the list!

I would love to join in!! I have seen these threads and wanted to try it! This month I will. I have only been to the grocery store for this weeks food budget and we both, Dh and I have gotten gas for the week.

So, since I have never participated, how does this work? I put this previous post up as an example but I see a lot of you doing this. What do these numbers mean? Is the last # a total for the month and the first for the week? Not sure how to read these numbers. Sorry I can't figure it out... Could be my headache. :(

So I would love to be a part of this and save some money!!

I will post more when I learn the # thing.

Well you can do it a lot of ways the way I am doing the no buy is setting a budget for things I have to buy so groceries 0/300 ,gas..etc, then I do wants but limit myself so I said I am only eating out 4 times a month hence 0/4, and misc ( toilet paper, so,etching for kids school, something irregular that's not planned. Then you try your best to stay within that limit, also try not to do those impulse buys, no matter if it's on sale or you really want it. I would also budget if you wanted to start your Christmas list. Then final you set days you don't want to buy anything so for October I am trying to not buy anything for twenty days. Good luck

In the interest of full disclosure...I still have my full $20 left since I had $10 remaining from last week that I forgot to throw in the Disney jar and that's what I used at the Dollar store today.

No Buy Days: 4/27
Trips to the Dollar Store: 1/4
Fast food stops: 0/4
Total in the change jar $0
Oct 1-$0
Oct 2-$0
Oct 3-$0
Oct 4-$0
Oct 5-$10.04
Oct 6-$0
Oct 7-$0
Oct 8-$0

I'm quite proud of myself because I...

a) had to take the car in to the dealership on Wednesday to have the winter tires put on and I spent nary a cent during the 2 hours I waited...one of which was spent window shopping in Walmart (very dangerous activity for my budget) and one of which was spent sitting in the nearby McDonalds rocking their free wifi. So success with the budget and success with my diet BOTH at McDonalds.

b) went to the dollar store today and I stuck to my list!!! On two occasions I had something in my cart I didn't need and I put it back.

So, I'm beginning to develop willpower, baby!! Whoot! :cheer2:

09/02 Busy Busy day!!! Started with taking my friend shopping for the day. Went to KMart what a huge toy sale they were having. I did a huge layaway and got 5 of 30 people done for Christmas. Spent (per say) $203.00 and saved $180.00:cool1:. Placed $25.00 on that. Went to a few other stores she wanted to go to, but, I only spent $58.00, $54.00 in groceries and $4.00 at the Dollar Tree. Got home long enough to relax for a short while and then had to take the In-laws grocery shopping. They treated to dinner out.

09/03-0-:cheer2: Stayed in today. Exhausted from yesterday. Not a good day. Both my knees are swollen and killing me.

need to go back through and look at receipts for the last few days but we have totally blown the budget again.
I can not get people on board with this no buy thing.

But I just saved myself a butt ton of money, we cancelled our Disney trip. My friends we were supposed to go with can't make it so we decided to wait until next Christmas. So I should be getting $469 back from WDW soon.
